Could you explain how they'd release a patch for a console game?
Xbox games are able to be patches through downloads on Xbox Live. Just not a while back, the developers of Ninja Gaiden released a patch/add-on so drastic that they basically made it an entirely new game.
The hurricane pack has not been released yet, but yes they will be releasing content that will basically make it a whole new game, according to them.
HOWEVER, the developer must have the necessary hooks in place in order to be able to update/patch issues, meaning that they had to have coded to ability to update the game, which only they know if that can happen.
SECONDLY, microsoft frowns upon releasing patches for games unless related to online play or mission critical i beleive. The downloaded content is usually only for adding to the exisiting game..
Guess you will just have to see what happens, if anything.
LOL! I simply read about that Ninja Gaiden update when I was deciding whether to buy an Xbox and it greatly impressed me. Didn't know it wasn't released yet. But thanks for the info about how the patches work as I am still new to the Xbox.
One of the things that make patching difficult is the fact that most of the infomation, if coded that way is taken from the dvd. So something needs to happen to be able to patch a game which does not live on your hard drive but on a dvd. (remember the mvp patches for the pc, yet the xbox version got no love)
the developer must have something that will allow them to access the new information from the "patch" you download. Hence, them needing the hooks (extensibility ) already in place.
Again, microsoft (according to them) are trying to distinguish the PC trend of released rushed products out the door by not allowing games to be patched unless it affect Xbox Live.
This was told to several of us at e3 in conversations we've had with microsoft reps.
Take it for what its worth.
