End the PS2 HDD controversy already!!!!!

OK, i just bought the HDD so I can get replays and because of the rumoured ability to rip CDs onto the hard drive. It says you can do it in the manual and I'm hearing conflicting reports on various message boards and reviews. I pray to God, Buddha, Mohhamed and all that is holy that I can get some Rakim in Giants Stadium because the music provided is whack!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please someone with a PS2 HDD confirm this for me. Thank you!

OK guys, im stuck at work right now and Im hoping I can get some hint here. Just read through the instruction manual for the HDD and theres nothing about ripping CDs. Looks like Im beat.

You are beat. I don't know of a way to rip songs to a HDD. Where did you hear that you could?

I think ripping music to the hard drive is only supported in the XBOX version. There is a rumor floating around that Sony is going to release some sort of utility disk that would install CD ripping hardware onto the HDD, but I can't confirm that, and thus wouldn't count on it happening. Regardless, I doubt if it's in the PS2 version's code for HDD song support.
