Hold On To Ball ratings

On another thread, I mentioned that some of the Hold On To Ball ratings were off in 2K5. Here’s a glimpse into what they maybe should be… and I just quickly guess-timated the new ratings – nothing exact. Touches include rushes and pass receptions. There’s a whole project here. And the same thing can be done with RB’s Catch ratings.

SF Barlow: 236 touches, 5 fumbles (1 fumble every 47 touches) -- Hold On To Ball rating is 92, should be 52

CHI Jones: 161 t, 4 f (1/40) -- rating is 75, should be 48

CIN Johnson: 236 t, 0 f (0/400) -- rating is 79, should be 99

BUF Henry: 359 t, 7 f (1/51) -- rating is 45, should be 56

DEN Hearst: 203 t, 2 f (1/101) -- rating is 84, should be 77

CLE Green: 152 t, 5 f (1/30) -- rating is 83, should be 40

TB Garner: 168 t, 1 f (1/168) -- rating is 99, should be 84

ARI Smith: 104 t, 2 f (1/57) -- rating is 91, should be 61

SD Tomlinson: 413 t, 2 f (1/206) -- rating is 94, should be 92

KC Holmes: 394 t, 1 f (1/394) -- rating is 96, should be 98

IND James: 361 t, 5 f (1/72) -- rating is 80, should be 67

DAL George: 334 t, 1 f (1/334) -- rating is 97, should be 97 – got that one correct!

Plus Clinton Portis fumbled once all of last year, but his Hold Ball is only 79.

Clinton Portis: 328 touches, 3 fumbles, or 1 fumble every 109 touches (pretty good, actually), That’s a little better than Hearst, who is a 77 in my grand scheme of things. So a rating of 79 sounds about right, really.

The thing with Portis though is that his Catch rating in the game is 62, which is too high IMO. The guy only caught 38 passes in 328 touches. Tomlinson caught 100 passes in 400+ touches and his Catch rating is 85. And poor Barlow got rooked: he caught 35 in 236 touches, but his Catch rating is only 45.
