Owls travels to the Bears

(AP)- And here we are. The 2024 regular season winds to an end, as the Rice Owls (3-8) travel to the Baylor Bears (4-7) in a matchup that nobody outside of Texas will be watching.

Baylor/Rice will be competing with #24 Arkansas/Texas Tech, SMU/Houston in a battle where the winner becomes bowl eligible, UAB (8-3)/ #10 TCU (9-2), and #23 Texas A&M / #3 Texas; as far as the biggest games relevant to the state of Texas.

This is a stalemate in turns of talent. And momentum. Baylor is fresh off a 38-34 victory over Houston, while Rice just beat SMU 27-24.

Baylor is led by 6'3 205lb freshman QB Chad Abrams (158 of 326 for 1908 yards, 18 TD, 6 INT) and senior HB Daniel Hayes (6'1, 233) who has 150 touches for 1048 yards, 12 TD, and 2 fumbles.

Owls throttle Bears 37-7 to end the season

Rice may have only won 4 games in 2024, but at least the season ended with a two game winning streak.

After barely surviving against SMU last week, after a heart breaking loss to Houston to week before, Rice broke out all the stops and laid waste to the Baylor Bears at Baylor.

Rice took a 10-0 lead after one thanks to a K Hammond 44 yarder, and a 22 pass from Williamson to C Manson,

Baylor made it a 10-7 halftime game thanks to a 11 yard pass from Bright to A Thompson, but the Rice defense went lights out in the 2nd half.

Baylor gained a mere 97 yards the entire second half, R Branch rushed for 2 TD's, Williamson hit B Newton with a 17 yard strike, and K Hammond added a pair of field goals from 38 and 35 yards out.

Rice walks away a 37-7 victory.

POTG
Rice's Williamson finished 22/38 for 366 yards with 2 TD's and 0 INT
J Bright led Baylor with 18/31 for 218 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and was sacked 5x.

What's Next

The season is over for both teams. Neither one is bowl eligible.

Next year looks great for the defense for Rice, but what will happen to the offense?

Re: The Road to Respect: A Rice Dynasty: Turn it back to 1990

Owl's 2025 looks tough!

Rice's 2024 was a tough schedule, but on the back end of some H&H schedules, 2025 just looks plain brutal!

Matt Raymer's defense will be on their second year, but to expect anything more than MAYBE bowl eligible is just way to much!

August 30th: At Colorado
September 6th: host Arkansas
September 20th: at #4 Syracuse
September 27th: host #5 Missouri
October 4th: host Hawaii
October 25th: at #25 Texas A&M
November 1st: host Texas Tech
November 8th: host #3 TCU (defending national champions)
November 15th: at #1 Texas
November 22nd: at Houston
November 29th: at SMU
December 6th: host Baylor
