Re: New Era at UW

Huskies Cruise Past Eagles to Open Season

Josh Armour showboats his way into the end zone during the Huskies win.

Seattle - Demond Williams Jr. threw for three touchdowns as the Washington Huskies opened up their 2026 campaign by easily dispatching of the Eastern Washington Eagles 55-10 in their season opener. The game seemed to never be in doubt from the outset, as the Huskies took the ball right down the field on their opening drive for a touchdown with little resistance. An errant interception thrown by Williams gave EWU life for a brief moment, but that was quickly snuffed out by the Husky defense, and a missed kick by the Eagles. From there the Huskies would go on three straight touchdown drives before the half putting to bed any notion that this would be a competitive contest. The Huskies backups didn't have much trouble putting points up either, and it wasn't until the third stringers came in before Washington finally let off the gas. EWU did manage to put some points up late to avoid the shutout, but it was nothing more of a tune up for the #1 team in the country before the big tests start next week.

Re: New Era at UW

Week 0 Recap

Texas Scores Late to Defeat Buckeyes

Austin - The Longhorns picked a tough test for their opener in week 0 welcoming the Ohio State Buckeyes to Austin. The two teams were deadlocked in the fourth quarter before a late touchdown from Arch Manning put the Longhorns away for good as Texas got a statement win early for their playoff resume 27-20. After a very disappointing end to last season this is not what many Buckeye fans were hoping for out of Ryan Day's team to start the year, but a loss on the road to a top ten team is hardly damning these days in the era of a 12 team playoff. Nonetheless Day could use a win to cool his seat rather quickly with a fan base growing impatient with the Buckeye's recent struggles. Here's a look at all the action from week 0:

Week 1 Preview at Purdue

West Lafayette - After a tune up in week 0 the Huskies season gets off to a hot start in conference play as they take on the #7 Purdue Boilermakers. College Gameday will be on campus for the top ten showdown, and Purdue will be looking to avenge their last second loss from last year at Husky Stadium. Both teams have something in common as were eliminated by the Oklahoma Sooners on their way to the National Championship game last year, but this contest will be about establishing early season control of the B1G Ten conference. Here's a look at the matchup, and where the rest of the Top 25 will be battling as we officially kick off the 2026 college football season:

Re: New Era at UW

Huskies Fall in OT to Purdue

Spencer Porath knocks in the game winning field goal in overtime.

West Lafayette - The early season top 10 showdown in the B1G Ten lived up to all the hype. Demond Williams Jr. had his best game as a Husky throwing for 326 yards, and two touchdowns. Including one in the final seconds to send the game to overtime, but it ended up being all for naught as the Huskies failed to score in the extra period, and fell to the Purdue Boilermakers 37-34. The Huskies defense could not stop the Purdue run game spearheaded by Jaheim Merriweather, who gashed Washington for 260 yards on the ground. Still the Huskies were able to counter behind the arm of Williams, who's two fourth quarter touchdown passes that kept Washington in it. The Huskies took the lead in the fourth briefly, but Purdue countered with two touchdown drives, albeit the final score UW seemed to let in on purpose to give themselves a chance. With 46 seconds left Williams led Washington 75 yards down the field, and connected on a touchdown pass with 9 seconds left to send the game into OT. Washington got the ball first, but the offense stalled, and coach Jedd Fisch took a gamble on a 4th down play instead of trying a long field goal. UW did not convert leaving Purdue only needing a field goal to win which they converted. It was another gut wrenching last second loss for the Huskies who lost in the CFP semi-finals last year in similar fashion. The good news is this loss is far from season ending, but the Huskies will need to regroup with four more tough road games still on the slate in the coming weeks.

Week 2 Preview at Nebraska

Lincoln - Washington will look to shake off last week's heartbreaker loss when they head out to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday. It will be the first time the newer conference foes have squared off since the Huskies joined the B1G Ten in 2024, but the teams do have somewhat of a storied past. Nebraska leads the all-time series 5-4-1 and have won four out of the last five matchups, but longtime Husky fans won't forget the two wins over the Cornhuskers in the early 90s, one of which was a catalyst to their national championship in 1991. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM from Memorial Stadium.
