USC Defense Snags Three 4th Q INT To Seal Victory
Terrelle Jones couldn't have picked a worse time to make his 1st mistake of the game. SS Jose Zimmons snagged the 1st of three 4th Q interceptions while Ohio State was looking for the go-ahead score in the 21-17 game.

Los Angeles, CA. - If you were looking for evidence to prove that the Big Ten is currently
THE premier conference in college football, you've got it with the matchups the Trojans and their Big Ten rivals have put together this season.
The Trojans blew through the #10 Ole Miss Rebels and #5 Florida State Seminoles earlier this season, but for their 3rd time this season a ranked Big Ten squad has given the defending back to back champs a run for their money.
Ohio State was in a 7-0 deficit before some Trojans fans found their seat thanks to a punt return TD by Terrance Vaughns after a quick three and out by Terrelle Jones and Co.
Most teams would be rattled by the quick special teams score, but the Buckeyes collected themselves and put together a grueling 13 play drive over the course of 7 minutes before Allen Diaby powered into the end zone from 1 yard out.
USC would respond with an equally grueling 17 play epic that included 3 4th down conversions on the drive before Andre Bender found TE Matt Cummings on a 26YD corner route to retake the Trojan lead.
The Trojans would add a second touchdown drive before the break thanks to rushs of 15, 11, and finally 14 yards by Manny Velasco for the TD and a 21-7 USC lead at the break.
Despite the pair of touchdown drives in the 2nd quarter the Trojans came out utterly flat to start the 2nd half as the Buckeyes forced them into a pair of three and outs. While USC was struggling, the Buckeyes were finally rolling on offense with runs of 44 and 6 yards by Shaquille Burfict before Diabey went airborne for his 2nd TD of the day to cut into the Trojan lead.
The Buckeyes had a shot at tying the game as the 3rd quarter wound down, but were forced to settle for a 43 yard field goal at the onset of the 4th quarter after the 11 play drive stalled on 3rd and 11.
With the Buckeyes offense going 2/2 in the 2nd half and nursing a 21-17 lead USC head coach Kyle Red knew the offense had to at least put up a three spot to keep the pressure on Terrelle Jones and the Buckeyes.
Southern Cal would get off to a hot start thanks to completions of 10 yards to Wayne Nailor followed by 13 and 22 to Terrance Vaughns, but would face a crucial call on 4th and 4 from the Buckeyes 33.
"Shakir has been shaky all season, especially from 45+, so I put the trust on my undefeated junior QB to ice the game," rationalized Kyle Red when asked about the crucial 4th down call.
While we don't know if Kalu would have nailed the nearly 50 yard field goal, we do know that Manny Velasco would drop the bullet pass from Bender as the Trojans turned the ball over on downs, giving the Buckeyes the ball at their own 33 with 6:18 to play.
After being walked down the field twice in the 2nd half, the vaunted "Wall of Troy" finally flexed their muscles as SS Jose Zimmons recovered on a busted deep route to break Terrelle Jones' heart with his 1st interception of the contest.
The Trojans offense wouldn't miss a 2nd time in crunch time as PJ Shembo finished off the quick 5 play, 53 yard drive with a 6 yard TD catch to push the USC lead to 11 points with 4:13 remaining.
Terrelle Jones was nearly perfect on the day leading up to the interception by Jose Zimmons, going 15/18 up to that point, but with the pressure mounting and the chances of a win dwindling away the senior QB started to crack.
Jones would finish the afternoon 4/7 (including the Zimmons INT) with all three incompletions being interceptions as the Buckeyes offense limped to the finish line of the eventual 35-17 loss.
"We played our hearts out on the road against the #1 team in the country," justified Ohio State coach Ryan Day, "They're back to back champs and riding a 41 game win streak for a reason.
"You've got to play a complete game for all 60 minutes and unfortunately for. us we fell about 4 minutes short of that."
The win brings the USC Trojans win streak up to 41 games, dating back to the 2030 season opener, as they move into 3rd place on the all-time list. USC will have a chance to move into a tie for 2nd place with the 2025-'27 Trojans when they host the Oregon Ducks (6-3) at The Coliseum next week.
