Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) @ Houston Oilers (1-1)

First Quarter

Pittsburgh receives and goes 3 and out but they get the ball back as Carl Roaches fumbles at the Houston 6. Franco Harris runs into the endzone on the next play to give the Steelers the lead, 7-0, with 12:00 remaining. Mel Blount picks off a pass on the third play of the Oilers' drive then Pittsburgh goes 3 and out. Houston drives 54 yards in 5 plays and settles for a Florian Kempf 34 yard field goal to make it 7-3, with 7:00 to go. The teams trade 3 and outs then the Steelers are forced to punt after a short drive. The Oilers start their drive and the quarter ends.
Steelers 7, Oilers 3

Second Quarter

Houston goes 3 and out then after Pittsburgh punts after a short drive, the Oilers march 78 yards in 10 plays but Florian Kempf misses a 19 yard field goal attempt. The Steelers drive 80 yards in 9 plays and Frank Pollard runs 4 yards for a TD to give them a 14-3 lead with 0:50 left in the half. During the series, Pittsburgh's receiver Greg Hawthorne is injured. Houston tries to drive but time runs out in the first half.

Third Quarter

Houston receives and mounts a 10-play, 48 yard drive that ends with Florian Kempf drilling a 49 yard field goal to pull them to within eight, 14-6, with 9:30 remaining. Pittsburgh goes 3 and out but gets the ball right back as Carl Roaches fumbles during the return on their 11. Frank Pollard runs into the endzone on the ensuing play to give the Steelers a 21-6 lead with 6:50 to go. Houston is forced to punt following a short drive then the teams trade 3 and outs. Pittsburgh begins their next drive and the quarter ends.

Fourth Quarter

Pittsburgh's drive started from their 6 and goes 71 yards in 9 plays with Gary Anderson booting a 40 yard field goal to give them a 24-6 lead with 11:10 remaining. Houston's Carl Roaches fumbled during the kickoff return and the Steelers recover at the Oilers' 14. Three plays later, Gary Anderson misses a 35 yard field goal attempt then Houston goes 3 and out. Pittsburgh covers 52 yards in 10 plays with Franco Harris running 6 yards for a TD to give them a 31-6 lead with 2:10 to go. The Oilers turn the ball over on downs and Cliff Stoudt takes a knee to end the game.

Minnesota Vikings (0-2) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2)

First Quarter

Minnesota receives and on the sixth play of the drive, Hugh Green picks off a pass then the teams trade 3 and outs. The teams trade 3 and outs again then Tampa Bay drives 57 yards in 4 plays with Jack Thompson finding Jimmie Giles in the endzone from 4 yards away to give them the lead, 7-0, with 4:30 remaining. Following a 30 yard kickoff return by Darrin Nelson, the Vikings drive 30 yards in 5 plays and Benny Ricardo misses a 42 yard field goal attempt. The Buccaneers begin to drive an the quarter ends.

Second Quarter

Tampa Bay is forced to punt following a short drive then the teams trade short drives and punts. Minnesota hits paydirt as they drive 75 yards in 9 plays with Tommy Kramer firing a 14 yard pass to Sam McCullum in the endzone to tie the game, 7-7, with 4:50 remaining. Michael Morton returns the kickoff 50 yards to the Vikings' 35 but the Buccaneers don't get a first down and Bill Capece misses a 47 yard field goal attempt. The Vikings punt after a short drive then the first half ends after a pass by Jack Thompson falls incomplete.

During the early part of the drive, Vikings' quarterback Tommy Kramer is injured and replaced by Steve Dils.

New York Jets (1-1) @ New England Patriots (1-1)

First Quarter

New York receives and the teams trade short drives and punts then New England gets the ball back on their 44 thanks to a fumble by Freeman McNeil. The Patriots drive the 56 yards in 5 plays as Tony Eason, starting in place of the injured Steve Grogan, finds Stephen Starring behind the defense and the pass play covers 48 yards for a TD to give them the lead, 7-0, with 6:00 remaining. The teams trade short drives and punts then the Jets go 3 and out with Chuck Ramsey's punt being blocked and recovered by New England on the Jets' 5 as the quarter ends.
Patriots 7, Jets 0

Second Quarter

On the first play of the quarter, Anthony Collins runs the 5 yards for a TD to give New England a 14-0 lead with 14:30 remaining. New York answers right back with a 9 play, 65 yard drive that is capped by a 4 yard run by Freeman McNeil for a TD to cut the deficit in half, 14-7, with 10:10 to go. The Jets get the ball back two plays later as Ken Schroy picks off a pass but they go 3 and out. The Patriots mount an 11 play, 58 yard drive with John Smith missing a 38 yard field goal attempt then New York goes 3 and out. New England drives 33 yards in 4 plays and John Smith misses a 35 yard field goal attempt as time runs out in the first half.

Third Quarter

New England receives and is forced to punt after a short drive then they get the ball back 8 plays later as Freeman McNeil coughs up the ball at the NE 30. New York gets the ball right back as Mark van Eeghen turns it over on a fumble then the Jets don't get a first down and settle for a 41 yard field goal by Pat Leahy to pull them to within four, 14-10, with 6:30 remaining. The Patriots come right back and march 57 yards in 13 plays and John Smith boots a 30 yard field goal to put them back up by seven, 17-10, with 0:20 to go. The quarter ends after the kickoff return.

Fourth Quarter

The teams trade 3 and outs then after New York goes 3 and out again, New England is forced to punt following a short drive and Kirk Springs returns it 89 yards for a TD to put tie the game, 17-17, with 7:30 remaining. The Patriots are forced to punt again after a short drive then the Jets go 68 yards in 7 plays and Pat Leahy drills a 21 yard field goal to give them the lead, 20-17, with 2:30 left. New England turns the ball over on downs and Richard Todd takes a couple of knees to end the game.

Nice thread. Played strat football with a buddy in the mid 80's. Good times. Also nice to see the LA Rams. Back when I cared about the NFL.

Thanks. I like pulling out the old games from time to time. I even have a strat college football game and it has the names of the "skilled" position players (QB, RB, WR, TE) on offense. For example, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have Thurman Thomas as their starting tailback and his backup was Barry Sanders. It doen't have all of the schools, though, just a few from each of the conferences including the Ivy League, and a few independents (Army, Navy, Florida State, Miami (FL), Penn State, Notre Dame, Holy Cross).

Kansas City Chiefs (1-1) @ Washington Redskins (1-1)

First Quarter

Kansas City receives and drives 48 yards in 9 plays but Nick Lowery misses a 51 yard field goal attempt. Washington marches 66 yards in 13 plays with John Riggins bullying his way 1 yard for a TD to put them in front, 7-0, with 5:00 remaining. The Chiefs answer right back with a 10 play, 45 yard drive that ends with Nick Lowery kicking a 49 yard field goal to pull them to within four, 7-3, with 0:20 to go. Time expires after the kickoff return.
Redskins 7, Chiefs 3

Second Quarter

Washington goes 3 and out but gets the ball back 4 plays later as Mel Kaufman picks off a pass and returns it to the Redskins' 42. Six plays later, Joe Theismann finds Art Monk in the endzone from 2 yards away for a TD to put them up by 11, 14-3, with 8:40 remaining. Kansas City goes 3 and out then Washington goes 34 yards in 7 plays and Mark Moseley misses a 34 yard field goal attempt. Washington goes 3 and out then the quarter ends as the Chiefs start their drive.

Los Angeles Rams (1-1) @ Green Bay Packers (1-1)

First Quarter

Los Angeles receives and they drive 63 yards in 9 plays and Mike Lansford kicks a 32 yard field goal to put them in front, 3-0, with 10:30 remaining. Green Bay is forced to punt after a short drive then the Rams go 3 and out. The Packers, thanks to a 55 yard pass from Lynn Dickey to James Lofton, go 74 yards in 3 plays with Lynn Dickey finding Paul Coffman in the endzone from 4 yards away for a TD to give them the lead, 7-3, with 4:30 to go. Los Angeles goes 3 and out then they get the ball back 5 plays later as LeRoy Irvin picks off a pass in front of the endzone and gets to his 5. The Rams start their drive and the quarter ends.
Packers 7, Rams 3

Second Quarter

Los Angeles goes 3 and out then they get the ball back 3 plays later as Nolan Cromwell intercepts a pass and brings it to the Rams' 43. The Rams go the 57 yards in 6 plays as Vince Ferragamo hits Mike Barber with a 13 yard pass for a TD to put them in front, 10-7, with 10:10 remaining. The Rams go 3 and out but they get the ball back two plays later as Mel Owens intercepts a pass and brings it to the Packers' 29. Four plays later, Vince Ferragamo throws 8 yards to Preston Dennard for the go-ahead TD, 27-24, with 6:00 to go. Nolan Cromwell picks off his second pass of the game on the fifth play of the ensuing drive then Los Angeles drives 45 yards in 7 plays as Vince Ferragamo caps the drive with a 1 yard pass to David Hill for a TD to ice the game and put them in front by ten, 34-24, with only 20 seconds left. The game ends after the kickoff return.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) @ Denver Broncos (2-0)

First Quarter

Philadelphia receives and goes 3 and out then Denver drives 53 yards in 11 plays with Steve DeBerg finding Steve Watson in the endzone from 6 yards away to make it 7-0 with 8:00 remaining. The Eagles are forced to punt after a short drive then after the Broncos go 3 and out, the quarter ends as Philadelphia is driving.

Second Quarter

On the first play of the quarter, 7th of the drive, Denver recovers a Hubert Oliver fumble at their own 5 then march 78 yards in 11 plays with Rich Karlis kicking a 34 yard field goal to give them a 10-0 lead with 7:40 remaining. Louis Wright picks off a pass on the second play of the ensuing drive then the teams trade 3 and outs. The Broncos' Zack Thomas returns a punt 22 yards to the Eagles' 32 then Rich Karlis boots a 41 yard field goal three plays later to increase the lead to 13-0 with 1:50 to go. The Eagles turn the ball over on downs after going for it on 4th and 2 at the Denver 38 but they get the ball back three plays later as Herman Edwards picks off a pass. Philadelphia is forced to punt after a short drive then the Broncos are driving as the quarter ends.

Fourth Quarter

Denver punts after their drive stalls then Philadelphia goes 3 and out. On the first play of the next drive, Steve Watson gets behind the defense and the pass play goes 50 yards. Steve DeBerg finds Steve Watson in the endzone from 9 yards away on the next play to give the Broncos a 20-0 lead with 11:30 remaining. The Eagles go 3 and out then Denver mounts a 9 play, 59 yard drive that ends with Rich Karlis drilling a 23 yard field goal to make it 23-0 with 5:40 to go. The Broncos get the ball back as they recover a fumble by Michael Haddix on the first play of the ensuing drive at the Eagles' 18 then settle for a 35 yard field goal by Rich Karlis to give them a 26-0 lead with 4:20 left. On the second play of the next drive, Ron Jaworski finds Mike Quick burning the defense and the pass play covers 73 yards for a TD and Philadelphia trails, 26-7, with 2:50 on the clock. Denver goes 3 and out then the Eagles mount another drive but time runs out.
