Just the numbers
Overall: FSU B+ / UVA C+
Offense: A / C+
Defense: B / B-
PPG: 37.7 / 29.3
Offense: #20 / #95
Rush: #3 / #82
Pass: #46 / #74
Defense: #77 / #27

Last Week: Virginia beat up on an FCS school for the second time this year, 43-14. They're only game against a BCS team was @ USC, where they lost by 14 in week two.

When Virginia has the ball: It's a wonder Virginia has managed to stay in the middle of the very tough (4 ranked teams) ACC coastal division. Perhaps it's because they only beat up on FCS schools, and when they actually played a good team, they managed 10 points. THeir offense is pretty bad. Quarterback Marc Verica is a senior, but has only thrown for 4 TD and averages under 170 YPG. He does have a weapon in impact player Kris Burd, who has 12 catches for 280 yards and 2 TD on the year. Verica's favorite target by far. Their backs are young and the best part of the offense, but that ain't saying much. Perry Jones averages just under 80 yards a game and has 4 TD. Good luck against this defense that just shut out their first ACC opponent, led by NCAA tackle leader Nigel Bradham.

When FSU has the ball: If there's a reason the Cavaliers are 2-1 still, it's because of their defense (and they play horrible teams). They're not all around good, but they have some studs. Sophomore MLB Steve Greer is a beast and already has 2.5 sacks and a pick. CB Ras I Dowling is the leader of a surprisingly talented secondary, but next-best player SS Rodney McLeod is injured. That doesn't bode well for them, since it seems Christian Ponder is finally hitting the right targets, throwing for three TD last week, which made up for the lack of a running game. Since the secondary is good, look for Ponder to hit TE Beau Reliford, FSU's reception leader, across the middle.

Key Players: QB Christian Ponder (FSU), TE Beau Reliford (FSU), MLB Steve Greer (UVA), CB Ras I Dowling (UVA)

Prediction: This rivalry matchup won't be close at all, as FSU won't even get a scare. Jermaine Thomas racks up 150+ yards again and Ponder throws for over 250. 49-13, FSU

Top: Relaxation is key during a hard game of rivalry football. Beau Reliford makes an unorthodox catch behind his head. Left: One Cavalier defender tips a Christian Ponder pass to the other late in the first half, one of Ponder's 3 INT. Right: The fake punt pass was a big risk, and shifted all of the momentum to the Seminoles. JaJuan Harley (far right) would make the pick.

What a crazy, turnover filled game this was. The Battle for the Jefferson-Eppes Trophy wasn't thought of to be much of a battle, but Virginia did like the other mediocre teams playing Florida State did - give them a scare.

The Seminoles finally got to play in some nice weather, which normally isn't said for a team that plays in Florida. It wasn't a very sunny day for FSU though, as their first half was disastrous.

Four plays into the opening drive, Christian Ponder was under pressure and threw right to his receiver. Star cornerback Ras I Dowling was lurking there, however, and lept up and snatched the ball. He almost took it to the house - before Jermaine Thomas saved the day, stripping him near the sideline, and Ponder hustled over to pick up the ball he should have never let out of his hands.

It just delayed the inevitable, however, as an 11 yard sack forced FSU to punt. Virginia marched down the field, with Perry Jones' rushing leading the way, before he walked in from 2 yards out to give Virginia the lead at the end of the quarter.

Virginia was its own worst enemy to start the second quarter. Merely seven seconds in, facing a 4th and 13, they decided to fake punt pass. The punter Randolph stood around waiting for someone to get open, threw right, where it was picked off by backup safety Jajuan Harley.

The Seminoles capitalized on the great position early, as Jermaine Thomas hammered one home at the goal line. Near the end of the half, FSU tried to score a quick touchdown, but Ponder was again intercepted at about midfield after one defender tipped it to another. Three plays later, however, quarterback Marc Verica found his receiver on the right sideline, who made a move and sprinted down, only to be met with a huge hit by STARTING safety Terrance Parks, causing a fumble. FSU would march down the field again and nail the field goal.

Florida State cut out its mistakes in the second half, returning to the 'Noles we love, holding the Cavs scoreless the rest of the game. Ponder had a beautiful throw on a fade route to his tight end Beau Reliford, and Jermaine Thomas continued to dominate, racking up over 100 yards on the ground and nearly 75 receiving.

Right you were!

You guys have any suggestions? Less writing in the game recap? Less stats? Unnecessary things? Things I should add? Any tips are appreciated!

Re: Tomahawk Chopped - Florida State (NCAA11)

Just the numbers
Overall: FSU B+ / Mia A-
Offense: A / A-
Defense: B / A-
PPG: 37.0 / 22.7
Offense: #21 / #982
Rush: #3 / #33
Pass: #42 / #85
Defense: #60 / #7

Last Week: Miami bounced back after falling over a dozen spots in the polls since the start of the season with a 31-3 thrashing of ACC rival Clemson. Before that they got dismantled by Ohio State and lost a close defensive battle to Pitt, 6-10.

When Miami has the ball: Jacory Harris is the leader of this team, no doubt. The junior can beat you through the air (200+ YPG, 7 TD, 5 INT) or on the ground (30 YPG, 1 TD). When he doesn't want to pull it down and run himself, he hands it to one of his great two senior backs, Graig Cooper (93 YPG, 1 TD) or Damien Berry (36 YPG, 1 TD). His tight end Richard Gordon is his favorite target though, as the senior has 19 catches and 4 touchdowns on the year. This team should be better than #22 in the polls with weapons like this, especially since they're seniors. The FSU defense that caused three turnovers last week will have their work cut out for them.

When FSU has the ball: The 7th ranked defense in the country belongs to Miami, and there's a reason. All American DE Allen Bailey is an absolute monster, gobbling up QBs and HBs alike (16 TFL, 3.5 sacks). The interior is led by Marcus Forston, who has 2.5 sacks and is only a sophomore. Linebackers Colin McCarthy and junior Sean Spence will smash running backs on the weak side. Then there's Brandon Harris in the secondary who has two picks and several deflections already. Christian Ponder better be at his best and improve from that 3 INT monstrosity last week if he wants to have a job still.

Key Players: QB Christian Ponder (FSU), DE Allen Bailey (Mia), LB Colin McCarthy (Mia)

Prediction: Miami is a lot better than its played so far. Maybe it needs a heated rivalry like this one to step up. In our game of the week, we have Miami over Florida State, 27-24.
