Re: Gig'em Aggies (NCAA 2011)

Aggies Show Off New Offense
Texas A&M debuted their new spread option offense today against UTEP in a very excitable way. Redshirt Senior Melvin Hodges underwent the task of leading a new offensive scheme, and he excelled. Texas A&M gained 451 yards of offense in the debut of the new offense. Hodges lead the way by completing 14 out of 17 passes for 250 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Hodges also ran for 5 yards and a touchdown.

UTEP started off the game by marching down the field on the legs of D. Jones, and kicking a field goal. A&M immediately answered back by driving down the field and scoring a touchdown. Hodges threw a bubble route to halfback Cedric Briggs for a touchdown. A&M would then stop the Miners and force a punt to end the first quarter. Score UTEP 3, Texas A&M 7.

A&M continued with their momentum on offense by marching down and scoring again, this time carried by the legs of Briggs. Hodges would cap off the drive with a 18 yard touchdown pass to Ken Muhammad. After a failed 4th down conversion, The Aggies started another drive. This one would end quickly as Hodges threw an interception on the second play of the drive. The turnover proved costly as UTEP marched down the field and scored on a 7 yard run by D. Jones. On the ensuing drive Hodges once again had success throwing to Muhammad, hooking up twice with the final one on the drive being a 8 yard touchdown pass. UTEP would march down the field but not be able to score before the half. Score UTEP 10, Texas A&M 21.

The Aggies continued to show their offensive dominance by scoring on the first play of the drive in the second half. Hodges hooked up with Anthony Hawthorne for a 74 yard touchdown pass, his 4th touchdown pass of the game. UTEP would get within scoring range but once again turnover the ball on a failed 4th down conversion. A&M would start another drive by relying heavily on Briggs, and would close out the drive with another score. This time Hodges would take it in himself from 5 yards on an option play. UTEP would make some strides but cough up the ball, and allow for strong safety Tyrone Hall to pick it up and return it 34 yards for a touchdown. The 3rd quarter would end with UTEP driving the ball. Score UTEP 10, Texas A&M 42.

UTEP would continue their drive to start off the 4th and score on a 6 yard touchdown reception by D. Jones. The second string for the Aggies would make their appearance on the first drive of the fourth and Derrick Sowell would have the highlight of the drive with a 55 yard run. The Aggies would kick a field goal from 34 yards to finish the drive. UTEP would make another good attempt for scoring but once again fail on a 4th down conversion and turn over the ball. Texas A&M would run out the clock and gain the victory. Final Score UTEP 17, Texas A&M 45.

#16 Pitt @ #23 Utah
Pitt would prove to be too much for Utah. Leading 14-10 at half, they would go on to shutout Utah in the second half and collect the victory 20-10. Pitt would score the victory because of the rushing of halfback J. Nash and the 3 turnovers Utah gave away.

Cincinnati got stomped by Fresno State for 3 quarters and even a 27 point 4th quarter wouldn’t keep them from getting beat, 27-40. In a very high offensive game, both teams over 400, Cincinnati would lose in a poor 3rd down conversion percentage (25%) and then having 2 turnovers.

Re: Gig'em Aggies (NCAA 2011)

Aggies Roll Over Louisiana Tech
Texas A&M continued to show off their high octane offense in another home blowout, this time against Louisiana Tech. Redshirt Senior Melvin Hodges once again showed off his skills for the professional scouts as he had another stellar game, leading the Aggies to victory. Sophomore Patrick Coker had his breakout game, catching 5 balls for 116 yards and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs won the toss and elected to receive first. In what looked like another weak day for the Aggies defense they immediately showed they don’t want to be a defense that gets walked over. The Aggies forced a fumble as the Bulldogs were gaining momentum on the first drive and redshirt junior outside linebacker Tom White, picked up the ball and rumbled back to put up the first points for the Aggies. The Bulldogs marched down the field once again, on the bend but not break Aggies defense, and put a 26 yard field goal through the uprights to get on the board. Hodges made some excellent passes on the Aggies drive, and concluded it with a 14 yard touchdown pass to Ken Muhammad. Texas A&M would then hold to Bulldogs on the next drive and force a punt as the first quarter concluded. Score Louisiana Tech 3, Texas A&M 14.

Texas A&M started out the second quarter with a bang. After methodically moving down the field as normal, Hodges hit redshirt junior receiver Andrew Hawthorne on a steak for a 28 yard touchdown pass. Hawthorne went up on a jump ball double covered and brought it down while being hit in mid air. The Bulldogs continued to have momentum as A. Haynes completed a couple of pass to get into field goal range. The S. Moses then kicked a 44 yard field goal for his 2nd of the game. The Aggies were stopped by the Bulldog defense on their next drive and forced to punt. On the second play of the ensuing drive Louisiana Tech coughed up the ball again, which was recovered by sophomore linebacker John Dennis. The legs of Cedric Briggs would carry the ball down the field until Hodges hit sophomore receiver Tom White for his first touchdown catch of the year from 13 yards out. The Bulldogs would run a couple of plays before the whistle blew sounding half-time. Score Louisiana Tech 6, Texas A&M 28.

The third quarter started off with Hodges hitting Coker 3 times on the opening drive, but the offense eventually stalled out and was forced to punt. A. Haynes made the best of his opportunity and lead a drive down the field that ended up with another field goal for the Bulldogs. This one from 26 yards out making it the third on the day for S. Moses. On the Aggies next drive, Hodges showed that he isn’t at his top form yet as he threw another interception, his 2nd on the year. Lucky for the Aggies, the defense stepped up and forced Louisiana Tech to punt on a 3 and out. On the Aggies next play Hodges hit Coker over the middle on a slant for a 79 yard touchdown in the face of heavy blitzing by the Bulldogs. Louisiana Tech would be working on their next drive when the whistle blew for the end of the third quarter. Score Louisiana Tech 9, Texas A&M 35.

The Aggies would hold strong on defense and force a punt to start off the fourth quarter. Briggs would pick up 32 yards on the next drive and setup a touchdown pass for senior fullback Richard Jackson from 12 yards out. The touchdown pass marked the 5th and final for Hodges this game. The Bulldogs would try to make a statement and score again, but failed to on a 4th down just outside the red zone. The Aggies second string offense would step on the field and show they still aren’t ready yet as backup quarter back Devron Phillips’ option pitch was intercepted and taken back 48 yards for a touchdown by D. Johnson. The Aggies would play more conservative the next drive and put up a 45 yard field for their last score of the game. On the Bulldogs next drive, they coughed up the ball to put the nail in the coffin, and the Aggies ran out the clock to get the victory. Final Score Louisiana Tech 16, Texas A&M 45.

If anyone is following this, I just wanted to say this is not dead. I don't have Internet or a lot of time during the week. So I play my games on the weekends.

Couple of questions though.
1) How's the layout? I have been toying around with some graphics. It looks decent.
2) With the free time I have during the week, would you like to see some stories and have them posted with the updates?
