Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Trifecta, BABY!
Who would have thought that the Bulldogs would have won a game this season, let alone three in a row? They really seem to be meshing as a complete unit, and morale in the locker room is at an all time high. A lot of this can be contributed to the work and effort that Matt Howry has put in recently. He's been lights out in the last three wins, throwing six touchdowns and two interceptions and 916 yards. His presence on the field has definitely boosted the team's play, and they will need it coming towards the end of the season.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

"Do you believe in miracles?!"
It looks like the Mississippi State Bulldogs have finally found their footing this season, and are playing better than ever. They're climbing the ranks in the computer polls, sitting at #47 right now, but rough roads are ahead. They face off against #3 Oklahoma this week, #9 Auburn next, and #8 Florida the following week. Three teams in the top 10 all in a row doesn't leave much time for celebration for the Bulldogs.

Around the Nation:
#9 26 @ 31
Badgers fall early to the Hawkeyes, and can't muster enough for the win.

Ten points in the forth quarter push Kansas State over the visiting Tigers of Missouri.
#8 27 @ 48 #11
LSU lays a beating on Auburn in front of their home crowd to take the lead in the SEC South.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Week 10 Preview

(4-4)@ #3 (7-0)
Norman, OK -
Quite possibly the biggest test for the rising Bulldogs comes against the Sooners this weekend. Urban Meyer and his staff have been working day and night to draw up the proper game plan to try and knock off Oklahoma, but does their young team have enough to pull off the upset? Matt Howry has been playing out of his mind right now, and is being considered for the O'Brien Award. Kim Smith has been efficient since coming back off his injury as well, averaging 104.8 yards per game. Our biggest worry is the Bulldog defense and if they can keep up with Oklahoma. It should be a little closer than some people think.

Key Matchup: Kim Smith vs Sooner front 7
The passing game has improved remarkably for Mississippi State, and other teams know that. They will be dropping back in coverage a lot to prevent the big plays, and that's where Kim Smith comes into play. Smith needs to provide some relief for Howry and put up some pretty big numbers. It's going to be tough, with the Sooners defense being ranked 6th in run defense, and 11th in overall defense.

Projected score: Oklahoma 19, Mississippi State 7

Key Week 10 Matchups:
#22 Missouri @ #1 Nebraska (-8)
#5 UCLA @ Cal (+3)
#18 Oregon State @ #13 USC (-14)

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Bulldogs' humbled on the road
Mississippi came into Oklahoma looking to pull of the upset, and was completely derailed late in the game. Urban Meyer could only watch as his team was completely man handled in the second half, as the Bulldogs let up 21 forth quarter points. Mississippi State struggled all game long to move the ball and had 5 turnovers on the day. Howry was denied a touchdown and ended up throwing two interceptions after coming off three fantastic games in a row. It's back to the drawing board for Meyer's staff as they have a short week to prepare for the Auburn Tigers.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Tough pill to swallow
Just when things started to look like they were heading in the right direction for Mississippi State, and now we are back to the drawing board. The defense played pretty poorly and was lit up by both their air attack and the running game. A bowl game is looking pretty slim for the Bulldogs, as they will likely have to win out the remainder of their schedule.

Around the Nation:

ACC conference gets a little interesting as the Wolfpack head into Boston College and knock off the #7 ranked Eagles.

Late drive for the Cowboys ends in a heart breaking missed field goal that would have sent the game into overtime.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Week 11 Preview

(7-2) #10@ (4-5)
Starkville, MS -
It's official, Mississippi State has the toughest remaining schedule in the nation. They took on #3 last week, have #10 today, and then #6 the following week. Meyer's crew has been in fits trying to get prepared for this Thursday night game and the short week that comes with it. Auburns offense has been on fire this year, torching defenses for an average of 487 yards per game (6th) and won't look to let up the gas on the struggling Bulldogs defense. This one could get ugly, but if the 'dogs can put up points early, it could get a little interesting.

Key Matchup: Kim Smith vs Auburn front 7
It's no secret by now that if Kim Smith doesn't play well, the Bulldogs don't play well. He struggled last week against Oklahoma and Mississippi State suffered because of it. The only problem that he faces this week is the #1 run defense in the nation, holding opponents to 81.1 yards per game. Meyer may want to go to more of an air assault this game where Auburn's defense comes in at #71 in the nation.

Projected score: Auburn 24, Mississippi State 15

Key Week 11 Matchups:
#8 Ohio State @ #12 Wisconsin (-3)

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

Bulldog's storm the field for another top 10 upset
Urban Meyer's Bulldogs stunned the Auburn Tigers in front of their home crowd. Mississippi State jumps to 5-5 (4-2) in the season, and is in a four way tie in the SEC West.

The third play of the game went for six for the 'dogs as Howry connected with Paul Angsman for a 55 yard catch and run. Urban Meyer switched his game plan to an air assault right before the game, and let Howry call the plays. It proved to pay off as he torched the Tiger secondary for 333 yards.

Penalties riddled Mississippi State, as they managed to rack up 13 penalties for over 100 yards. Five of the penalties came from the offensive line as they were caught for 3 holds and 2 false starts. It didn't put a damper on the overall performance of the offense, as they smoked their defense for over 500 yards. Overall, it was a solid game for the Bulldogs, and a win nobody was expecting.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi - Coaching Dynasty

So we've got two options here. I can continue the dynasty we've got going on here, or I just got a patch that has the updated conferences (Boise State to MWC, Utah to Pac 12). Let me know what you guys wanna see.
