Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Home Field Is In The Cards For Bengals

With their 13th win of the season, 28-7 over the Arizona Cardinals, the Cincinnati Bengals have set a new franchise mark for wins, clinched their second AFC North title in three years, and secured home field for the duration of the playoffs. Christmas came a day early.

Head coach Marvin Lewis said after the game that he intends to rest his starters for what will now be a meaningless regular season finale against the Baltimore Ravens. That means that Andy Dalton's assault on the NFL's rookie quarterback records has most likely drawn to a conclusion, as he'll only play next week if Bruce Gradkowski gets injured. If the Red Rifle's stats remain unchanged, he'll be the new holder of two records, completion percentage and interception percentage.

In injury news, Cedric Peerman suffered a PCL tear on the second half's first play from scrimmage. He will be placed on injured reserve and Jay Finley will be activated from the practice squad to keep the Bengals four-deep at running back going into the playoffs.

In the opening possession of this penultimate regular season game, Rey Maualuga forced a Beanie Wells fumble that Kelly Jennings recovered at the Arizona 40. On the following play, Dalton went to A.J. Green for 29 yards, but that early red zone visit ended with a 22 yard Mike Nugent field goal. At the 1:48 mark of the first quarter and two plays after a clipping call on a punt return put the cardinals at their 2, strong safety Chris Crocker sacked Kevin Kolb for a safety. With just 14 ticks to go before the half, Dalton fired a 7 yard touchdown pass to Jerome Simpson. The Red Rifle's 20th scoring pass of his rookie season was the first TD for the Bengal offense since the Houston game two weeks ago, and it put Cincy up 18-0.

With an end zone interception on the final play of the third quarter, Thomas Howard assured the Cincinnati defense of seven consecutive quarters of shutout play. After a 49 yard pick-six by Nate Clements with 4:37 to go, the Cards finally marched to a breaking of the shutout with a 9 yard pass from Kevin Kolb to Early Doucet on the play after the two minute warning.
