2011 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE

Thanks to a two game road trip to open the 2011 campaign, the Bengals’ home opener won’t be until Sept. 25th, when they host the 49ers. A team that won only four games in all of 2010 could have that many wins in as many games as they play other crap teams for the first four weeks before they see tougher competition.

Added a couple of historical reference links to post #1. When I include in a write-up that something hasn't happened since whenever, etc., I have found that info at one of those sites. Contrary to popular belief, I do not have a pornographic memory.

Williams Receives Four-Game Ban From NFL

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Saturday that the NFL has suspended starting right guard Bobbie Williams for the first four games of the season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

"We anticipated this would occur," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told The Cincinnati Enquirer. "It is nothing that has come as a surprise from our end, and it is something we have prepared for."

Still, it's a significant loss for the Bengals since Williams has started 68 consecutive games and 109 out of a possible 112 since joining the team in 2004. He spent his first four NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Veteran guard Max Jean-Gilles, another ex-Eagle, also was one of the Bengals' 22 roster cuts Saturday, putting Otis Hudson and Clint Boling in position to move into the starting lineup.

The Bengals also placed cornerback Adam Jones (neck) on the physically unable to perform list and linebacker Keith Rivers (wrist) on the reserve/non-football injury list. Both players are eligible to return to practice after Week 6 under a roster exemption, then the Bengals would have three weeks to add them to the active roster.

Linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy (Achilles) and tight end Bo Scaife (neck) were placed on the season-ending injured reserve.

Benson Released From Jail After Serving Shortened Sentence

Bengals running back Cedric Benson was released from jail Saturday, according to a statement that his attorney sent to The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Benson surrendered to authorities at the Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, late Tuesday to begin serving a 20-day sentence on a 2010 assault charge. Attorneys from both sides said that, with good behavior, Benson's time could be reduced to seven days. According to lawyer Sam Bassett, Benson received additional credit for work in jail.

"Mr. Benson was released from jail today, having served his sentence," Bassett said in the statement. "Mr. Benson was credited for his full jail sentence pursuant to policies which apply to every inmate sentenced for a misdemeanor. He worked while in the jail, mopping floors and assisting the paint crews. He received additional credit because of this work. Every inmate in his circumstance is treated the same for purposes of calculating jail time credit. He looks forward to getting back to work and having a good season."

Benson enters the season coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard performances. He started all 16 games in 2010, rushing for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns.
