Re: Return of the Orange Crush Defense-A Denver Broncos Dynasty

September 20,2011

This last weekend against the Bengals, the Denver Broncos lost their two number one recievers in Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal. Both men went down with broken collarbones this last week. They are both expected to return in the next 4-6 weeks. So that leaves a gaping hole at wide reciever that they need to fill right away. With that said the Broncos went out and signed two WRs in Terrell Owens and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

With the signing of Owens they get one of the best recievers of all time. Owens had his best years in San Francisco and then again in Philadelphia. He has bounced around to a couple different teams these last couple of years, but still remains a very good reciever.

As for T.J. Houshmandzadeh he had his best years in Cincinnati before going to Seattle and then Baltimore. Coach John Fox thinks that both men can help the team in this time of need. Both men are expected to play this week in Tennessee.

Yesterday the Broncos lost lost their first game of the season in Tennessee. The Broncos again could not produce much offense. Kyle Orton started the game, got sacked 3 times, threw just 2 passes, the second one being intercepted. That ended his game right there. John Fox said after the game that Orton was taking to many sacks, and that it was hurtung the offense.

Brady Quinn was inserted into the lineup and struggled in the 1st half. In the 2nd half he was able to move the ball some, but it was not enough to get Denver the win. "Kyle is not getting the job done right now. So with that said Brady Quinn will be moved up tp the number 1 spot this week, and will start at Green Bay next week." Those were John Foxs comments after the game.

Once again the defense struggled in stopping the run giving up big yards to Chris Johnson. It seems the defense has a long way to go in improving, and if they want a shot at the playoffs they are gonna have to find away to stop the other teams running game.

In Brady Quinns first start as a Bronco he lost. The Broncos fell in Green Bay 24-17. Again the Broncos defense gave up a ton of rushing yards, and the offense turned it over 4 times. One bright spot on the defense was the play of Von Miller. Once again he proved why he was the #2 overall pick in the draft with 11 tackles and a sack.

"I thought Brady did a good job today, but there is a lot of room for improvement." That was coach John Foxs response at the end of the game. Even though Quinn threw 3 picks, 2 of them were in the last couple of minutes trying to make something.

In Terrell Owens second game as a Bronco he had a big game. Owens caught 7 passes for 118 yards and a TD. Hopefully he can keep it going, because this is what the Denver offense needs.

As we take a look at the NFL standings after 4 weeks, we noticed a few surprises.

The first surprise we see comes from the NFC East and that is the Washington Redskins. I don't think anybody had them slated in at 3-1 to start the season. Their defense is doing a great job keeping the other team off the scoreboard.

The second team having a great start and maybe the biggest shock of all, the Cleveland Browns at 4-0. I know noone had them having a start like they have had.

Another surprise is the start of the New York Giants, as they are only 1-3. Their defense is not playing well right now, and it is costing them.

Finally maybe the biggest surprise is that the New England Patriots are only 1-3. They have only scored 50 points the first 4 games of the season, but I don't think it will be long and they will be back on track, in what looks like a weak AFC East division.

The Broncos returned home this week on a 2 game losing streak, things would not change. The Broncos lost their 3rd straight game Sunday against the visiting Chargers.

The Denver defense played really well in holding San Diago to 16 points, but the offense continues to struggle. Leading the defense was Lofa Tatupu with 12 tackles and 2 sacks.

As far as the offense is concerned we did see the running game have its best day so far. Knowshon Moreno ran for 100 yards, and Willis McGahee had a touchdown. Brady Quinn was not very good and the passing game suffered for it.

The Broncos need to find their offense soon as they have now dropped 3 straight games. Next week the Broncos travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins.

Yesterday the Dolphins extended the Broncos losing streak to 4 game. They did it with a big 4th quarter scoring 21 points and picking off Brady Quinn 3 times in the quarter, 5 times in the game. Although he was playing alright until the last quarter, the final outcome prompted coach Fox to alraedy name Kyle Orton the starter for next weeks game against the Lions.

There is not much to say about the game as the stats speak for themselves. The Broncos need to get the ship righted quickly or it will be to late. GM Ray Hunter says he has confidence in the coaching staff and the players. He believes they will get it turned around and start playing better football.

The Broncos ended their 4 game losing streak yesterday beating the Detriot Lions. Kyle Orton was back playing QB again, and played a pretty good game.

"Kyle played great for us today." John Fox said after the game. "But we still need to do better on offense and score some more points." That is the biggest thing that has to be fixed right away.

Terrell Owens continues to be a big part of the offense, catching 10 passes for 86 yards. Brandon Lloyd also returned to the lineup today and he will really help the offense.
