0-16 Leads to Massive Changes
Indianapolis made Nigel Bradham the 5th overall pick in the draft
Indianapolis, IN -- It's only been done once before. 0-16. The Detroit Lions in 2007 were the first ones to go 0-16, and the 2011 Indianapolis Colts, with superstar quarterback Peyton Manning sidelined for the season, became the second team to do the unthinkable by going 0-16. Obviously, changes had to be made. The Colts front-office began by firing the entire coaching staff. Their replacements? Indianapolis started off by hiring Jack Del Rio who, most thought, was unfairly fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts then added Dom Capers as their defensive-coordinator and Jack Looman as their offensive-coordinator.
The Colts added some beef up front by adding UNC's Tydreke Powell at defensive-tackle
Then came free-agency, a time the Colts normally remain quiet. Not this year. Indianapolis, looking to establish something that resembles a running-game, signed Michael Tolbert. Also, looking to shore up their secondary, Indy signed Kelvin Hayden. And then there was the dreaded Peyton Manning-Andrew Luck conundrum. Deciding to stick with Manning, who started throwing in late December, and was cleared for all football related activities in February, traded down for the fifth overall pick in which they selected OLB Nigel Bradham out of Florida State. They used their second round pick (33rd overall) to select defensive-tackle Tydreke Powell out of the University of North Carolina. With the first pick of the third round the Colts selected running-back LaMichael James out of Oregon. Their fourth round pick was spent on 6'3" 225 pound wide-receiver Michael Floyd out of Notre Dame.
Former Heisman Trophy runner-up and Oregon star running-back was selected in the 3rd round by Indy
Notre Dame standout wide-receiver Michael Floyd was added in the fourth round

Back to Normal
Peyton Manning celebrates after hitting rookie wide-receiver Michael Floyd for a 14 yard touchdown. Manning as 23/87 for 301 yards and threw 4 touchdowns in the game.
Indianapolis, IN (AP) -- So what if it wasn't perfect? So what if three of Peyton Manning's passes were intercepted, one returned for a touchdown? Number 18 was back under center for the Colts and everything was right in the world, for one day at least. After missing the entire 2011 season, Peyton Manning took the field as the Colts starting quarterback and, for the most part, looked good doing it. After throwing two interceptions on the Colts first two possessions, and being forced to a three-and-out on thee other, Manning shook off the rust and had the Indy offense up and running. Manning completed 23 of 37 passes for 301 yards, and hit four different receivers for touchdowns, in the Colts 41-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
It was the Indianapolis Colts defense, though, that had new head-coach Jack Del Rio excited after the game. "Peyton is Peyton. We knew it was only a matter of time before he shook-off the rust and got going again. That wasn't a surprise. He's one of the best quarterbacks of all-time. It was our defense that was the biggest surprise. Yes, Tennessee was able to move the ball some, but we held them to just 17 points, and with #18 under center that is plenty enough to win most ballgames." Said Del Rio. In fact, the Titans managed just 312 yards of total offense and had three drives deep into Indianapolis territory end in field-goals. One drive in particular, the Titans had a 1snd and Goal from the one yard line, but failed to get the ball into the endzone.
For one day, at least, Colts fans had something to smile about. Their team won a game for the first time since 2010 and Peyton Manning played a significant role in delivering the victory.
Tight-end Jacob Tamme drags a host of Titans defenders inside the 10 yard line to set-up an Indy touchdown.
