Cavaliers Welcome WPU to Division 1 in Style
Roll to home Victory 38-13
Coming in Coach Carrigg knew it could and probably would be a long afternoon for his Pioneers in their first Division 1 football game, and on the road at Virginia as well. He was right, as the Cavaliers overcame a sloppy first half which saw them only up 10, to cruise to a 38-13 victory.
The Pioneer defense was surprisingly stout in the first half, limiting Perry Jones, and keeping Phillip Simms in check, but the Cavalier duo was too much for them in the end, combining to down the Pioneers and send them back to New Jersey with some tough lessons learned.
William Patterson tried to control the clock on the ground, but found the Virginia defense to be slightly too much to handle, limiting starting running back Brant Daniel to just 36 yards on 16 carries.
"It was tough. We had some moments, but for the most part we couldn't get anything going on the ground." said Carrigg.
While WPU had some success through the air, the running game was non-existent

5 Star Recruit Brandon Gillespie Commits Early
Stunning news in the recruiting world today, as just two weeks into the season, one of the biggest recruits on the board has signed an official letter of intent. 5 Star Cornerback Recruit Brandon Gillespie has made up his mind where he will be playing in 2013.
Gillespie stunned onlookers as he chose to take his talents to Camp Randall, and join the Wisconsin Badger secondary. We will have more later from Gillespie after he puts out an official statement.

Pioneers Fall Short in the Big Easy
Last Second Heave Falls Agonizingly Short
The Pioneers from William Paterson fell just short of picking up their first Division 1 win, as the Tulane Green Wave were able to pull out a squeaker on their home turf, 35-30.
William Paterson would take their first ever lead on the first drive of the day, working their way down field with little trouble, as Brant Daniel would punch it in from eight yards out to give the Pioneers their first lead of the day. While Daniel struggled last week against Virginia, he ran for 94 yards on 19 carries, helping the WPU offense find balance for the first time this season.
A two and a half minute stretch in the second quarter would see to it that the Pioneers would not win this game, as Tulane was able to reel off 21 straight points and jump ahead 28-10 late in the quarter.
"It was hard going down by 18 the way we did, a fumble and a bad pick...you just have to live with that stuff sometimes. I'm proud of the way we fought back, and we were there at the end. We just couldn't make that one last play." said Coach Carrigg.
The Pioneers had the ball at the Tulane 38 with 4 seconds remaining, but a last second ball into the end zone intended for Willis Bell was knocked down by a defender, sending the Pioneers to their second straight defeat.
