Ya... maybe the 1st dynasty crashing on me was a good thing.. was 4-5 overall and ive matched that total already

Truthfully though i should be 2-3 at best.. Arizona should of beaten me and New Mexico just honestly handed me the game

Strength of schedule has been pretty bad too, still have Nevada, Wyoming, Fresno, and Air Force coming up but i am starting to think about a Bowl for sure

3-4 (1-2) VS. 5-1 (2-0)

Suttorps Huge Day Lifts Western to Victory

Gunnison, CO - The Western Colorado Mountaineers improved their overall winning streak to 5 this past weekend with a very impressive 28-6 victory over the visting Nevada Wolfpack. Despite the Mountaineers being outgained yet again, which seems to be a common theme this season, they still found a way to win the football game.

The first score of the game came when QB Pete Cantrell was able to find Shaun Suttorp on a simple hitch route, and a perfectly placed ball and overly aggressive DB allowed for Suttorp to make the catch and run 29 yards for his 2nd TD of the season.

The score would remain 7-0 for quite sometime until Nevada was finally able to get a drive going midway through the 2nd quarter. The drive would eventually stall deep in Western territory and the Wolfpack had to settle for a 30 yard Hardison FG to cut the lead to 7-3. Western would answer right back on their following drive, with the second connection between Cantrell and Suttorp in the game, this one going for 40 yards and a 14-3 lead heading into the half.

The start of the 3rd quarter, saw both teams really struggle to do much of anything. Donny Nelson for Western put the ball on the ground 2 times, and Cantrell threw his 2nd INT of the game. Nevada however could not find a way to score. They had one good drive that ended with a Hardison missed FG from 38 yards, and by the teams body language on the sideline they truly looked down on themselves.

It wasnt until late in the 4th quarter that we actually saw our next score of the game. That being another Hardison FG, this one from 35 yards out with 3 minutes remaining cutting the lead to 14-6. Then on the Mountaineers very next play from scrimmage offensive cordinator Ryan McDonough broke the pattern of running on first down. Cantrell fired the ball deep down the left side finding Suttorp and 73 yards later he had his 3rd TD of the game. All but ending the hopes of the Wolfpack for a comeback. The scoring was not over though, as on the Wolfpacks answering drive the Mountaineer defense came up huge yet again. With their backs deep in their own territory, Charrod Cameron was able to jump a Nevada out route and intercept his second pass of the game and sprint 94 yards the other way for the score.

The Western offense truly struggled all day and despite 4 turnovers, with 2 Nelson fumbles and 2 Cantrell INT's the Mountaineers found a way to win. Cantrell struggled throughout only completing 6 passes on the day. Three of those however went for six points as Shaun Suttorp had his best day as a Mountaineer hauling in 3 passes for a career high 142 yards and 3 TDs. Nelson also had a good day minus the 2 fumbles lost, with 152 yards on 21 carries.

The Defense which came up huge all day while being on the field for numerous plays because of the 4 turnovers on offense allowed just 6 total points. Senior LB Dion Gallagher tallied a season high 13 tackles, while Safety Darren Garcia chipped in 11 tackles of his own and grabbed another INT for his 3rd straight game. With the INT, Garcia now has 4 on the season and is among the conference leaders in that category.

The win now pushes Western Colorado to 5-1 overall and undefeated at 2-0 in the MWC. Things look to get a little tougher for the Mountaineers as they will face the Wyoming Cowboys and thier star QB Brett Smith. Also Wyoming is coming off a heatbreaking loss at home to the Fresno State Bulldogs 24-21. Kickoff is scheduled for next weekend at Mountaineer Bowl at 1 PM local time.

Western Inks Two More Recruits

Western Signs Two More Prep Stars Recruiting - 2012
NAMEPOSCLASSHOMETOWNHTWTCALIBER

Jeff DortchMLBHSOkmulgee, OK6'2"218

Gunnison, CO - Head Coach Jas Bains has just announced the signings of two more prep stars that will join the Western football program next fall. Lance Haas and Jeff Dortch will be coming to Gunnison next fall to help build on what has already been a very impressive start to the programs D1 football journey.

Jeff Dortch a 6'2" 218 lbs, MLB is from Okmulgee Oklahoma by way of Okmulgee high school. So far this season, Dortch has 45 tackles and 2.5 sack playing for the Twisters of Okmulgee High. Dortch is a two year starter at MLB and led the team in tackles last year with 89 earning him a spot on the All-Conference team as a Junior. Coach Bains had this to say about Dortch, "Hes a bit undersized for the MLB postion, and the speed that he has shown on film could make him a possible rover guy in our system. However, despite his lack of size he is a very physical football player and we love that about him". Rivals.com list Dortch as the 130th overall MLB prospect, as well as a 2-star recruit.

Joining Dortch next season will be Lance Haas of Gateway Christain School, in Gateway, Colorado. For those that dont know, Gateway Colorado is located just outside of Grand Junction which is about 2 hours away from Gunnison Colorado. This is not to be confused with Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado where both Shaun Suttorp and Andrew Bosley of the current Mountaineer roster played thier prep ball. Haas, despite playing at a small 1A school here in Colorado has caught the eye of many teams throughout the nation, and coach Bains is very excited about signing him. "Going into this years recruiting season, Lance (Haas) was one of those kids we knew we had to get. He was right down the street basically and with his size and speed could step in and make a huge impact early". Haas has been a 4-year starter at Gateway Christain School and has lead the 1A division in tackles since his Sophomore campaign. Coloradoprep.com listed Haas as the 9th overall recruit in the entire state and #2 overall LB. Rivals.com also listed Haas as the 30th overall prospect at the OLB position and gave him a 3-star rating.
