The harder they fall

The SEC might've played itself out of it's own national title streak with the recent loss of the LSU Tigers. The Tigers had originally gone the initial eleven weeks of the season undefeated, leave it to their rivals in Arkansas to smother the run. Arkansas jumped out to a 35-7 first half lead the Tigers managed to bring it to a somewhat closer score of 35-49

The Tigers run has been impressive even without early heisman candidate Spencer Ware missing the season with an injury. The run just couldn't continue and Les Miles continues to struggle surpassing the hill of an undefeated season. The Tigers lost at the absolute worst time. They drop to #6 and unless pollsters shine favorably on the Tigers in their conference championship, do not expect the top two slots to change.

Each team moved up one spot, the Texas Longhorns have to beat the Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan to advance to the national championship and claim the Big 12. A loss not only eliminates them from the title discussion, it will also wipe out their opportunity to participate in a BCS game.

The #1 spot will be highly contested however, Florida State has slid into the top spot despite losing their division and not even participating in the ACC Championship game, a fate that will lead to yet another year of controversy and what-ifs surrounding the matchup. The Seminoles finish the season 11-1, their lone loss a blow out against North Carolina State.

Wisconsin seems the likely fit to sneak their way into a championship game, outside of the top two, Wisconsin was the other school receiving first place votes and at 11-1, they could leap frog the 10-2 Oregon Ducks that played the 'losing at the right time' sweepstakes to emerge as the #3 seed. Both programs will play in their respective conference championship games and a win could elevate either one into the title game.

In the final week of the season, nothing is certain. LSU was the lone stable factor in the league this season and they caved. At the end of the week, all will be clear but until than, a lot of hype and excitement will be on tap.

Idaho stunned after huge rally

The defensive standouts on the Vandals, namely the seniors put their all on the field. The Vandal defense would score fourteen of the Vandal 35, while also forcing a turnover that set the Vandals up for another touchdown. A game that saw the Vandals getting beaten all over the field and a short shot at redemption. Say what you want about the Vandals but the attitude has changed in just a short year under Coach Halmmann. The team never gives up.

Not when Montana jumped out to a 34-14 lead by the end of the third quarter, not when Montana had only allowed 117 total offensive yards through three. The team kept fighting, never giving up. The first score of the day would be on the defensive end when Aaron Grymes intercepted an errant pass and carved his way to the end zone. Leading into fourteen unanswered Montana points, both on runs from inside the five.

The second quarter saw an odd enough set of plays, the Vandals tying the game after Dominique Blackman got knocked out and Taylor Davis came in, going 4-4 before Blackman came in and hit Maurice Trotter for an eight yard touchdown pass.

Montana answered with twenty unanswered. The following drive, Reynolds notched his second touchdown run when he hit the crease hard and scored from thirty yards out following terrific blocking. That would lead the game into the half 14-21, Montana receiving the kick off to open the second half and after trading possessions, Selle lofted a beautiful pass to Kazmierczak finding him in the corner of the end zone, Kazmierczak dragged his feet to ensure the score. The Bears knocked in two field goals of 30 and 28 to extend their lead.

The offense was anemic, struggling to do anything and to open the fourth, Dominique Blackman (3-17, 17 yards, 1 TD) was sent to the bench. Outcame Taylor Davis and he lit up the defense that had been tearing apart the offensive unit. That wouldn't be the catalyst to the game ending run however. Frusutrated, Halmmann went for it on fourth and one deep in his own territory and failed to convert. The ensuing play was a pitch to the right side, Maxx Forde smacked the ball out of the Bears grasp and Conner Scheidt scooped up the ball rumbling 75 yards for the score. It was time for the Vandals to get going.

A quick three and out and the offense came out electrified, Taylor Davis completed pass at a 2/3rds clip and looked efficient out of the backfield. Davis would lead the Vandals downfield hooking up with senior, Mike Scott on a screen, Scott would go untouched five yards for the score. A long Bear drive ended with nothing and the Vandals came out again. Driving slowly, the play call was for a halfback screen. Senior Ryan Bass stepped up, reeling in the ball and following his blockers, going forty-seven yards for the score barely diving into the end zone to avoid the final pursuer. The Vandals had the lead 35-34 with two minutes left.

An interception gave the ball right back to the Vandals who had a quick three and out but were in favorable field position, the field goal however would clank off the post keeping it a one point game with about thirty seconds remaining. The Bears had no time outs but they wouldn't need them. Seeking to blitz the quarterback and end the game with ease, Halmmann sent five and the pass a designed slant went with a beautiful spiral. A missed tackle later and Lockwood had broke free, going 80 yards for the game winning touchdown, leaving only one second on the clock. The Bears would convert the two point to make it 35-42.

Handley would field the kick return and get it to the thirty, trying to pitch the ball to a teammate but the lines judge ruled his knee hit the ground prior to the pitch. The Vandals collapsed, the crowd erupted while the Vandals players quietly shook hands and left the field. The Vandals fall to 5-7, guaranteed to miss a bowl game now, while the Bears pick up the equalizer, improving to 5-7.

Klein and Hubert attack ends Texas title hopes

Manhattan claims another victim and this time the Longhorns were seared on the dual pronged tandem of Collin Klein and John Hubert which tore through the Longhorns with ease. Klein struggled to a 101 yard passing day but would add 90 yards on the ground and a touchdown. John Hubert piled up 184 rushing yards and a touchdown, the impressive feat being his longest run was of 15 yards, he was consistently gashing the Longhorns everytime the ball hit his hands.

Jaxon Shipley did his part, scoring two touchdowns on a strong Kansas State defense, it would prove not enough however. David Ash struggled completing a high percentage of passes going 12-28 for 230 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Bergeron was held short of 100 yards, with exactly 99, averaging 3.8 yards per carry but also punching the ball into the endzone for a score.

The loss bumps Texas down to #5 while Kansas State improves to #7. Wisconsin becomes the new front runner to play the Seminoles for the national championship.

Re: The road ahead -|Josh Halmmann|-

Chaotic season ends in chaotic fashion

The Wisconsin Badgers close out the 2012-13 season in a fashion suiting the insanity that the season contained within. After winning the programs 13th conference championship, their eyes were set on a much bigger prize. The first national title in school history. The Seminoles faught but the Badgers got the last punch.

The Midwest school piled on a 28-10 lead heading into the fourth, but the Seminoles rallied. EJ Manuel led the Noles downfield with ease hooking up with Penn State transfer, Kevin Hapela for a short touchdown pass. On the following drive, an errant O'Brien pass would be intercepted leading to a seventy-seven yard return. The Badgers could feel the wall right behind them and they tried to go out swinging.

Montee Ball struggled and the Badgers ended up punting the ball away. EJ Manuel did his best to bring the Seminoles within scoring range but still stalled with a little over a minute left leaving Hopkins with a 52 yard attempt. The crowd was rocking, a three point game and a massive kick lie ahead. The Seminoles kicker connected beautiful and the ball bounced off the right post before going in, the Seminoles swarmed their kick for a moment before turning to business. Shutting down the Badgers as they head into overtime.

The national championship went three overtimes before a missed field goal sent the Badgers onto the field swarming eachother and celebrating the schools for national title, a historical moment in a highly controversial national championship that saw the Florida State Seminoles clinch a bit over #3 Virginia Tech whom had won the ACC.
