Ron Rivera Steps Down, Collins Takes Over

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- Panthers head coach Ron Rivera stepped down today, citing personal reasons. "It pains me very much to leave this wonderful team, city, and organization. All the great fans that have supported us have been great to us. I love the Carolina Panthers and I love the game of football, but sometimes, life outside of football takes priority. Thank you Dave [Gettleman, Panthers GM] for the opportunity. I'll miss Carolina."

"It's disappointing to see Ron leave," said Gettleman at the press conference. "Ron has been a great influence on our team as we move towards a Super Bowl-caliber squad. However, we're very excited to announce Ron's replacement. Please welcome Mr. Mitch Collins."

Collins, 25, is a youngster out of the college ranks. After graduating from Binghamton University, Collins became the tight ends coach at the University of Ohio. He then moved on to the offensive coordinator at Florida State University and eventually took the reigns as head coach at Ohio State. "I'm pleased to be here," Collins said at the press conference. "I'm ready to bring the Panthers back to glory."

Carolina opens the pre-season Sunday against the Houston Texans. (Note: The pre-season will be simmed!)
