Jets Defense Shows Its Dominance in Win
  • Ah Rex Ryan finally has the defense he's always wanted. This game was his perfect game. The run game was on point, the quarterback didn't throw that much and the defense was as stout as ever. Granted, this was the perfect team to do it against as the Raiders have a horrid offense. All it is is speed, speed and more speed. When Clyde Gates is your second leading receiver, you know you have problems. However, that should take nothing away from what the Jets accomplished today. In fact, they were only three points away from breaking the NFL record for most points scored in a quarter. What an incredible game to watch. Going into the fourth quarter it was anybody's game. At the end, it was the Jets' game.
  • We always start off with our quarterback update because that's the most intriguing story of this team so far. Plus it's the quarterback. Danny Martens quickly became a game manager this game which is incredibly against his nature. He kept all his passes close and after a first quarter interception he didn't take many risks down field, leading to his top deep threat, Akia Green, catching zero passes. He did what he needed to though, and just kept the ball out of the defense's hands and let the defense win the game. Thus far he is 2-0 as a starter and looks to continue that trend next week.
  • Isn't it a beautiful thing when the running game finally works? This was the "Smash and Smash" attack that fans have been waiting for all season. It finally happened. To no one's surprise, Stevan Ridley again was the better runner, but Bull Griggs got more carries and ended up getting into the endzone as well. If these two runners can keep things going like this, it's almost unfair for defenses. Two straight ahead running backs who will never tire out because they'll always have a tag team mate.
  • We mentioned Akia getting shut out, and that was more a product of Martens not being able to get the ball down field. The only person who benefited was Jacquizz Rodgers again as he made some nice catches in the middle of the field and fullback Jorvorskie Lane got his first touchdown of the season. Expect Akia Green and Dwayne Bowe to bounce back next week.
  • Ahh the defense. What a game. Again, this was mostly in part because of Earl Williams roaming the field. He put up an absurd 14 tackles, forced a fumble, picked off two passes and returned one for a touchdown. Forget going for defensive rookie of the year, he may wind up being the defensive player of the year with his efforts. The other shout out from this game needs to go to Rodney Maye, the Jets' late second round pick. A polarize figure before the draft, once projected to go as high as the mid-first round, he tumbled due to scouts picking apart his game and feeling he just got lucky in college. Due to the Antonio Cromartie injury, he got his first start to try and prove those doubters wrong, and that's exactly what he did. Not only did he pick off two passes, he returned one for a touchdown. It's beginning to look like the Jets got a steal here and may have found the future of their defensive back core if Cromartie continues to have injury problems.

Re: Jets Franchise a Jets Franchise on Madden '13

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!! BLOCKBUSTER TRADE!!!!

OK we lied. In a pre-trading deadline move, the Jets traded starting right tackle Austin Howard to the Jets for their struggling former first round pick Gabe Carimi. This move was made to try and help out the Jets' run game. Carimi struggles in pass protection but he still has the tools to become an above average tackle. That's why he was drafted in the first round. The Jets are hoping this move pays off and he becomes their right tackle for years to come. Maybe a change of scenery is just what he needed. We'll find out soon enough.

PS: I just played a game where I clobbered the Partiots 34-17 with hardly any effort. My team is leading the league in sacks by seven, and I think that's the major problem. My team gets too many drive killing sacks. I upped the pass blocking and run blocking in the sliders, so hopefully that makes a difference. I'll just treat all the sacks so far as a freak outburst by the team. Overachieving.
