Glennon Struggles Early, Comes Up Big Late in Victory
Arizona continuously found themselves trailing St. Louis through the first half thanks to three untimely interceptions thrown by Mike Glennon in his first professional start. Glennon would redeem himself in the second half, throwing two of his three touchdowns, and engineering the game winning drive with just 1:08 left on the clock as the Cardinals slid past the Rams 41-38.
The game looked as if it was in hand as Montee Ball picked up a first down, causing St. Louis to burn their final time out, but Ball would fumble on the next play setting up Eli Manning with a chance to tie the game. He did just that on the very first play of the drive, connecting with Nate Washington for a 55 yard touchdown. Washington caught 12 balls for 216 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game, but also fumbled inside the Arizona 5 yardline the drive before which set up a 96 yard scoring drive engineered by Glennon.
Glennon looked more and more comfortable as the game wore on, hitting AJ Green for a 38 yard touchdown the first play after an Eli Manning fumble to give the Cardinals a 31-21 lead in the third quarter. Despite his turnovers in the first half, Glennon easily led the Cardinal offense down the field in the second half, hitting three different receivers for touchdowns in the game.
"Our defense couldn't stop anything. They may have forced five turnovers but you can't count on that every week. Eli Manning threw for 532 yards!" said Bruce Arians, "The only thing that kept us in that game were turnovers."
