UVA Football: Running with the Cavs

RUNNING WITH THE CAVS: A University of Virginia Football Dynasty

I'm going to be using NCAA 14 - OS Community + Playmakers Split Sliders (FINAL VERSION) for this dynasty.

I'm going to do something different too. I think we all know that most dynasties will end with the team we are following becoming a powerhouse. That tends to be how HUM vs CPU dynasties go. I don't want that so....

I'm going to play the offensive side of the ball only. For BOTH teams. I want this to be an organic thing & I too want to just go along for the ride. If the coach gets fired, cool....I'll just take over as the coach that the CPU decided to hire for Virginia.

It should be a fun ride.

I also want to thank PocketScout for his webpage maker & Xanathol for his editor. Without those I wouldn't try to do this and NCAA would be on the shelf.

I created the top 45 recruits per ESPN. They are also rated in that order. I also tried to get their top 3 schools correct. I missed some though. I will try to correct those after week 1. If the recruit has already committed to a school in reality, I gave said school a sizable lead in recruiting. I didn't want to commit them right off the bat because we all know how these kids change their minds.

This is starting in 2014. I edited ALL teams to have their actual 2013 result reflected in the game.

My Recruiting Rules are pretty simple; if they start with interest they are free game. The only way I can go outside of that is if I have a need at a position that no players show interest. In that case I must only recruit within my pipeline states.

2014 Virginia Cavaliers Preview

Following a disappointing 2-10 season, Head Coach Mike London needs to show he can lead Virginia out of the cellar. If he can't he will be looking for a new job.

Coach London's squad has been improved on the defensive side of the ball with the arrival of 5 star DT Andrew Brown. Brown, the fifth rated player in the nation by ESPN, is a natural pass rushing DT. He started as a DE through most of his High School career, but the move to DT has shot him up the rankings during his Senior year.

Joining Brown is Virginia's other 5 star recruit, Quin Blanding. Blanding, rated the number 10 overall player in the country by ESPN, will be in a camp competition with Senior Anthony Harris for the starting Strong Safety position. If Harris wins out, Blanding is being considered for a redshirt.

The offensive side of the ball shows less promise. Junior (RS) David Watford will more than likely get the nod for starting Quarterback. Watford has struggled with the pro style offense.

The Cavaliers will probably have to hand the ball to Kevin Parks and Khalek Shepherd to have the most success. By running the ball, Virginia can limit mistakes and let the defense keep them in the game.

BEST CASE SCENARIO:
If things go their way, Virginia may be able to surprise a few ACC foes and sneak out with a 6-6 record and a bowl birth.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:
Virginia gets blown out by UCLA, BYU, Louisville, Miami, Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. In the most winnable game against Kent State, turnover cause the Cavalier to lose by 3. The Cavaliers end the season 0-12. London gets fired and UVA is forced to start over again.

PREDICTION: 2-10 (1-8 ACC) 7th Place ACC Coastal

Re: UVA Football: Running with the Cavs

WEEK 1 Recruiting Spotlight

Jashon Cornell is the top rated player by ESPN U. Cornell is an athletic freak that brings an uncanny mix of speed, quickness, and strength. He has a quick first step and good up field speed. Cornell can get inside to disrupt the run as well as get around the edge on the pass rush. He can afford to add some weight to his frame before his freshman year.

Cornell would like to go to a school that has a great tradition and is in a strong conference, which would explain the top three schools on his list.

ESPN U WEEK 1 PREDICTION: 45% Notre Dame, 35% Michigan, 20% Ohio State

Re: UVA Football: Running with the Cavs

UCLA WALKS OVER CAVALIERS
28 second quarter points make quick work of Virginia

Brett Hundley passed for 309 yards and ran for 59 in three quarters worth of work. The Bruins scored on 5 of their first 7 possessions to take a 35-0 lead early in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers defense held UCLA to a three and out to begin the game. David Watford then drove the offense inside UCLA's 30 yard line before getting sacked out of field goal range.

Hundley then drove the ball to Virginia's 15 yard line, but threw an interception to Donte Wilkins, the DT who dropped back into coverage to fool Hundley into the interception. Unfortunately the offense couldn't move the ball on the following drive.

UCLA's next drive went 55 yards to give the Bruins a 7-0 lead. A lead that would grow to 28-0 by halftime.

The play of the game would be when UCLA led 14-0. On 3rd and 15 Hundley would go deep to Devin Lucien down the sideline. Lucien would make a SC Top 10 diving catch and roll into the endzone to grow the lead to 21-0.

Virginia's only score would come on a screen pass to Kevin Parks that cut UCLA's lead to 35-7.

THE GOOD: Kevin Parks had a respectable game running the ball for the Cavs. Virginia found themselves too far behind too early in the game to continue feeding him the ball.

THE BAD: Andrew Brown, freshman 5 star DT was pushed back early and often by UCLA's sophomore RG Alex Redmond. Brown ended the game with no tackles and no QB hurries.

THE UGLY: Third down defense was atrocious. After stopping UCLA's first drive on a 3 and out, the Cavalier defense watched UCLA covert their next 8 third downs.

Devin Lucien makes a diving catch on a 47 yard TD to give UCLA a 21-0 lead.

Danny Eaton's TD catch extends UCLA's lead to 35-0

Kevin Parks cuts back inside for UVA's only TD.
