Re: To the Top of the Mountain: Massachusetts State Mountaineers (NCAA 07)

Around the NCAA: December 10, 2006

Nebraska outlasts Texas; onto BCS Title Game
Led by Zac Taylor's 3 passing TD's, Nebraska held on for a close 35-28 victory, clinching a berth in the BCS National Championship Game vs. West Virginia.

No controversy here
In surprising fashion, there will be no dispute over national champions this year. Clearly Nebraska and West Virginia have been the 2 best teams this season, and whoever wins will be a clear-cut champion.

Tech takes ACC Title for first time since '98.
Georgia Tech rode a huge game from Reggie Ball to rally back and defeat Florida State 35-21.

Re: To the Top of the Mountain: Massachusetts State Mountaineers (NCAA 07)

Forgive me if the next few posts' tables are off. I don't know what's going on with the computer.

Also, the dynasty will be put on a brief hiatus soon. Out camping for a week. I'll be home next week, then gone again the week after.

This will be back on a full-time basis soon.

Nebraska's Taylor snags Heisman by 47 votes

Nebraska QB Zac Taylor won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, becoming the 4th Husker to win the Heisman, first since Eric Crouch in 2001.

Taylor won by only 47 votes over Georgia Tech Wideout Calvin Johnson, and only another few votes back to Michigan receiver Steve Breaston.

Taylor accounted for 46 TD's in 2006, and was a hero in last Saturday's Big 12 Championship Game.

If you have the time, please do! I love the old ps2/early ps3 era games, shame there aren't more dynasties from them over here.

Re: To the Top of the Mountain: Massachusetts State Mountaineers (NCAA 07)

Peters to miss season finale

Senior tailback Marcus Peters, only 9 yards away from 1000 yards in his final season, will miss the final game of his career due to a death in the family that requires him to travel back home to New York.

Coach DeArruda offered this to say:

Quote:
"This is a shame to hear that Marcus' career will end this way. Marcus is an incredible individual, and we commend his decision to put his family before his football. He leaves big shoes to fill in the backfield for the Insight Bowl, and we will miss him tomorrow and next season, no doubt. Keep his family in your prayers tonight."
Peters finishes his season with 991 yards and 12 TD's on the ground. He finishes his career with 1768 yards and 21 TD's rushing.

Re: To the Top of the Mountain: Massachusetts State Mountaineers (NCAA 07)

How bad?

Well, without a doubt this is the toughest article I have ever had to write. Massachusetts State's performance in the Insight Bowl vs. Arizona State was one of the worst games I have ever seen from any team, ever. Sucks their first bowl appearance ever will go down in the record books as this.

On top of being drubbed 65-17, Emile Britton's profanity-laced tirade in the locker room in the postgame, chewing out his teammates for the loss (despite only throwing 9-27 with 3 INT's himself), may have hinted his days at Massachusetts State are over. Britton, as of last week, is projected as a 2nd round prospect.

The worst part of it all though? Arizona State was playing without its starting QB, RB and RT. And their backup QB, Rudy Carpenter, threw 23-38, for 411 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Oy vey..

It was never close. The Mountaineers defense was, I guess the best word to use is, in the words of Lee Corso, abominable. Giving up 41 first half points is unacceptable on any level. 4 different Sun Devil receivers had more than 4 receptions, 4 different receivers had TD catches.

The only positives to take away from Mass State's performance? The hail mary TD Ricky Price caught at the end of the 1st half is one. Matt Ray's nice over the shoulder INT is the other. That's about it.

So let's move on Canton. This was a forgettable year for the most part. 2007 holds lots of new potential to be unlocked. We'll see you then.

Rudy Burgess makes a nice TD Catch.

Keno Walter-White's tipped INT.

Only highlight for Mass State was Matt Ray's INT.

Zach Miller makes a nice TD grab.
