The Dust Settles with the Pre-Season ending...
With the pre-season ending, the 53 man roster has been assembled. For the Titans, it's all about the young guys. Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter has seen some extra practice time in the pre-season and that should pay off with these guys becoming the 1-2 punch of the future. Bishop Sankey has earned the starting job and hopefully can produce on the ground and in the passing game. It all comes down to the QB, Jake Locker. The Oilers have already started scouting for their future franchise QB, and it's up to Locker to change the minds of those in management.
Locker may have some trouble though with tackles Michael Roos and Michael Oher being injured for the opener. Moving to the defensive side of the ball, we're looking for the defense to be at least average to start off. We're going to run a Tampa 2 type scheme. For the Tampa 2, it all starts on the d-line which is an area that we've struggled to generate any pressure with so far. Wimbley and Phillips simply have not gotten the job done and the only player capable of applying pressure is Jurrell Casey.
However, we are building a LB corp to be feared for years. Ayers is a versatile OLB who can play the run and the pass. Zach Brown and Zaviar Gooden have exceptional speed and quickness. The starting CB's aren't anything to write home about with Jason McCourty being solid and Blidi Wreh-Wilson being a young prospect. The starting safeties (Griffin and Pollard) are still solid players, but their best days are behind them.
We look forward to our first game against the Chiefs. In order to beat the Chiefs, we'll have to stop Jammal Charles, stop the underneath passes from Alex Smith, and keep the Chiefs defense off balance.
Finally, we have an update on the relocation process. The Oilers have shown the uniforms that they'll be wearing going forward.
We'll see you next time as we prepare to go to Arrowhead and visit the Chiefs!
