Re: The Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Pulls Away For First Win

The Takeaway:
Cleveland's defense appears to be back in form after a much needed strong showing against Baltimore, helping the Browns get their first win under their belt. Ray Rice failed to get anything going for the third straight game and Joe Flacco lacked confidence throwing downfield after getting pressured constantly throughout the afternoon, getting sacked 5 times. Barkevious Mingo was found himself in the Baltimore backfield all game long as he disrupted Flacco's timing and never gave Rice any chance to find a gap in the defense.

With fans clamoring about the lack of playing time Johnny Manziel has seen, the pressure was on for Brian Hoyer to produce against the stingy Baltimore defense. Hoyer played well for his standards, making short, smart throws chipping away at the field ahead of him. The most important play of the game came early in the first quarter when Hoyer threw a touchdown to Jim Dray to take an early lead and gave his team a chance to defend a lead. The Browns put long, time consuming drives together and padded their touchdown score with Cundiff's leg.

Ben Tate's statistics may not stand out, but he earned a handful of tough first downs and was reliable in prime situations. Most of his yards consisted of 2-4 yard carries, but pounding it at the Ravens strong defense awarded the Browns a few key runs. Tate's health was a concern for the Browns coming into this season and thus far he has looked in shape and healthy. Tate will take the upcoming bye week to rest his body and iron out any soreness.

Jordan Cameron was knocked out of the game after taking a hit midway through the first quarter. Cleveland recovered well in his absence he is expected to miss 3-5 weeks.
