Rebuilding the Raiders, Restoring Glory to the Black Hole - M15 (Custom All-Madden)

*** I've decided to restart the Franchise again.. I have found that the sliders were a little messed up, and now I have landed on the sliders I find give me the best and most realistic stats ***

Here I am as the new Team Development-style Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders. A team I grew up watching and loving, a life-long fan through the good times and the bad. I come into this organization after a terrible past decade in which the teams best record was breaking an even 8-8 (2010, 2011).

I bring the Raiders a new approach on both sides of the ball. Dennis Allen's old playbook is nothing special, and I bring in my own 'Scattergun' playbook, which is a West-Coast offense at it's core, with a few extra Spread offenses sprinkled in. Mainly I will be utilizing the running game along with the Short to Medium passes.
  • Offensive Playbook: Scattergun (custom)
  • Defensive Playbook: Pittsburgh - Mike Tomlin (3-4)
I need to work with GM Reggie McKenzie to bring in some fresh talent and upgrade some of our stale positions (most notable positions: RB, WR, RG, RT, CB, FS). We did a great job in the off-season of this season in Free Agency and the Draft signing future superstar Khalil Mack and drafting a potential gold mine in Derek Carr.

Just so you all know, I have uploaded my 'Scattergun' playbook to the Community Files. If you would like to download them, simply search for my gamertag: GutterPhenom16.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders, Restoring Glory to the Black Hole - M15 (Custom All-Madde

Pre-Season

One of the major things I need to do this pre-season is I need to use the Game Prep on improving the Confidence and gaining EXP for top rookies Khalil Mack and Derek Carr.

Position Battles
QB: This is an interesting matchup for the pre-season as every QB have an equal shot at starting the first game of the year.
  • Schaub comes in after a dismal season in Houston having been dwindling the last few seasons, but hopefully the change in scenery can reinvigorate this QB and bring him back to where he was 4 years ago
  • McGloin was the rookie QB to take over for the ill-fated Terrelle Pryor experiment last year and had a decent season. He is unproven (only having played 7 of 16 games last year) but is a good pocket presence and could possibly bloom into a solid QB.
  • Carr was our 2nd round pick in the last draft and was highly touted after being relatively unknown throughout his college career. He showed great poise in the pocket, an ability to run and put out an amazing combine to show he belonged in the NFL. I like him in my offensive system and will give him a good shot to prove himself in the pre-season.
RB:The battle of the broken Running Backs. Both of these RBs used to be amazing but thanks to constant injury (DMC) and wear-and-tear on a terrible team (MJD.. well.. both, but mostly MJD) these RBs are on a downward spiral.
  • MJD is the starter for now, posing as a better 'bruising' type runner but has been more consistent throughout his career than DMC. Consider him to be more of the Fred Jackson-type of the Raiders.
  • DMC was the Raiders cornerstone when we drafted him in 2008 but has vastly underwhelmed mainly due to his constant being on the injury report. He is definitely the shiftier and faster of the two backs (the C.J. Spiller to our offense) but mainly will be used as a change-of-pace back unless he shows he is a considerable advantage over MJD.
Pre-Season Games

I simulate every pre-season game, they just aren't worth it to play. I simulate through the weeks with Injuries turned OFF so there aren't any ridiculous injuries that I cannot help with. I will see the stats at the end of the 4th game and make decisions under the Week 1 post, once again under the Coach's Corner.

Pre-Season Moves

I could not go through with Maurice Jones-Drew as my top RB and went to the trading block. There were a few surprises on the list, including top young runners like Andre Ellington and Shane Vereen. So I had to make an offer for one of them. Thankfully my first offer was accepted.

Raiders Give: Maurice Jones-Drew (80 OVR) and a 2016 3rd Round Pick
Cardinals Give: Andre Ellington (83 OVR)

Year 1, Week 1

Coach's Corner:
(this is where I will talk about different things about the team like Draft Classes, who I am looking at for the draft, Trading Block issues, Team Re-signings, and some of my own personal notes about things happening with the team)

Derek Carr has won the starting job for QB for the team, he was much better than Matt Schaub this pre-season and I like the combination of having Carr and Ellington - and this will be the foundation to our future.

Game Prep
Weekly Time - 56 Hours
  • Install Gameplan (Gain Confidence - 10 Hours Per Player)
    • Donald Penn (51 Confidence) +4
    • Khalil Mack (51 Confidence) +7
    • Andre Ellington (50 Confidence) +4
    • Tyvon Branch (51 Confidence) +4
    • Derek Carr (64 Confidence) +5
Remaining Time - 6 Hours
  • **DELEGATED REST OF TIME**

Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs: QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K

This is where I will be posting the draft stories that come throughout the season, and I will also post players who I am scouting and where they rank on my big board. I definitely need to look into a Corner Back as my top priority, and then I need to start looking at a big WR prospect as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the first game of my coaching tenure and the first time we will see the Scattergun playbook be unleashed. I am very excited heading into MetLife to take on the Jets; lets see how it goes!

Not the best day for my first NFL game, but I do see some promising things from my team.

The Offense today was absolutely amazing. Derek Carr had to throw 42 times and completed 27 passes for 305 yards but did not score a touchdown but also did not turn the ball over (he did have one fumble at the end of the game off of a Muhammed Wilkerson sack - added 53 yards on 7 carries). Mychal Rivera was great catching the ball today, nabbing 6 passes for 82 yards and James Jones also turned one catch into a big gain and ended the day with 3 nabs for 63 yards. Andre Ellington (52 yards on 17 carries) and Derek Carr were the front runners of our rushing offense, but against the stout Jets Rush D it was really a non-factor.

The Defense today was not as good I was hoping they would be. Against the pass, we did a fairly good job only allowing Geno Smith 204 yards on 15 of 19 passing with 0 scores and 0 INTs. Nobody in the Jets receiving corps was able to produce anything promising. The real problem today was the rushing defense. Chris Ivory had an absolute field day against our porous rush defense, attaining an insane 131 yards and 4 scores on 24 carries (I will admit, 2 of the scores came from 1 yard out, so I can forgive those, but the other 2 were just bad plays by me on defense).

If we want to win games we need to crack down on the opponents rushing game, and we need to block better for our own rushing attack. Let's bounce back next week against Houston.

Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs: QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K
  • From Track to Field: Brendan Cunningham is transitioning to football after spending the last few seasons with Auburn's Track & Field team
    • "He's going to need some time to learn the intangibles, but don't doubt Brendan Cunningham's pure athleticism" - Skip Bayless
While he seems like a fast player, I need someone who actually has skills.. Who knows? Maybe he will surprise me throughout this season and show some promise.

Scouting
  • I need to start looking at Corner Backs for my top needed position. After that I should probably look at filling in both guard positions, and maybe a solid Star development WR.. I will begin scouting next week when my Scouting Points are above 200.

A horrible, horrible game.. Wow.

The Offense today was absolutely awful. Derek Carr managed to throw 3 interceptions on only 1 touchdown, and only mustered up 198 yards through the air and busted out 62 yards on the ground before leaving the game with a torn abdominal muscle - he should be out for a few weeks. Matt Schaub came in to play and actually did pretty well throwing for 88 yards and busting off a drive-saving, albeit pointless, 3rd down read-option for 12 yards. Rod Streater did amazing today nabbing 8 balls for 86 yards. However, on the rushing side of the attack the Raiders faltered again,as Andre Ellington only managed 36 yards on 14 carries and managed to fumble the ball as well.

The Defense was also absolutely terrible today.. But even worse than the offense in a special way. The Rush Defense actually did an okay job at stopping the rushing attack, however Arian Foster was injured early in the game but managed to get 56 yards on just 7 carries with a score, however for the rest of the game Jonathan Grimes only was able to get 51 yards on only 14 carries. The real downfall of today was allowing Ryan Fitzpatrick the ability to throw the short game and absolutely shred our secondary to the tune of 322 yards on just one incompletion (24/25) and hit up his receivers for 4 scores. The only long balls on the day were thanks to my mistake of calling for a Rush up the Middle and it turned into a play-action pass to which Fitzpatrick hit DeAndre Hopkins for a long 65 yard pass and Uzoma Nwachukwu for a 68 yard touchdown pass.

i like the presentation on this and the fact you've committed to Carr. Should be a good team to rebuild. Nice job grabbing Ellington too.

A bad game today for the Pass Defense, but it really was a great game otherwise.

The Offense today was pretty good with backup Matt Schaub at the helm throwing for 224 yards, 2 scores and only 1 INT, he was also able to muster up 22 hilarious yards on some read-option plays. The only reason I ran those plays is because Andre Ellington was once again ineffective as a runner only able to gain 26 yards on 17 carries. Thankfully Schaub was good through the air, once again making Rod Streater (6/54/0) the top receiver for the team but the real heroes of the receiving core were Mychal Rivera (4/49/1) and James Jones (4/48/1).

The Defense was a tale of two defenses, our front seven and our secondary. The front seven were absolutely the most destructive force the Raiders have produced in a long time, Justin Tuck absolutely dominated the Patriots right side and sacked Tom Brady 5 times, and Stevan Ridley only managed 69 yards on 17 carries but was able to get crucial first downs at times. The other tale was our secondary who let up an unprecedented 400 passing yards to Brady who was obviously unaffected by the constant pressure of our defensive front, and went 24 of 29 for 400 Yards and 3 scores, but we were able to pick him off 2 times as well. Thankfully we got that going, as these were our first interceptions in the first 3 games. Julian Edelman went off today with 109 yards and 2 scores, and other big time games came from Brandon LaFell (5/99/1) and Stevan Ridley (5/80/0).

Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs: WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K
Players Added to my Big Board
  • Jaelin Patton (CB - Prototype / Attacking 3-4 - 1st Round, #3)
    • His PMVA's (Position's Most Valuable Attributes) are as follows. Speed, Acceleration, Jumping: A. Zone, Man, Press: B. Awareness: C. Play Recognition, Pursuit: D.
Clearly he is a speed freak. He has some really solid coverage skills as well. Definitely going to keep tabs on him, and will check out his Development Rating as soon as I get the 500 Scouting Points to do so.
  • Khrystian Ball (CB - Prototype / Base 3-4 - 1st Round, #15)
    • PMVA's: Speed, Acceleration: A. Zone, Man, Pursuit: B. Press: C. Play Recognition, Awareness: D.
Definitely not as impressive as Patton but will be a good backup if it comes down to it.

And our losing streak continues.. It was absolutely heartbreaking with this blown lead loss today..

The Offense today was amazing, as we finally started getting the ball on the ground successfully. Andre Ellington absolutely dominated from the get go busting off a 76 yard rush on the first play from scrimmage and ended the day with 159 yards on just 20 carries. Thanks to this amazing running day we did not need to pass the ball very much but Derek Carr still had a great day, throwing for 228 yards and 1 score and 1 INT on 20 of 25 passing. There wasn't a "big" receiving day for anyone (Rod Streater led the team with 5 catches for only 34 yards) but there was definitely a disappointing day for Marcel Reece who faltered on every single touch he had, and ultimately blowing the game for us as he could not turn his 3rd down catch with under 2 minutes to go into positive yardage - he finished with 3 catches for just 5 yards.

The Defense was abysmal against the run today. After letting up just 69 yards against the Patriots, we gave up 165 yards to the Dolphins, including the game-clinching 51 yard rush (which was absolutely ridiculous by the way) to Knowshon Moreno who came in for Lamar Miller (7 for 52) did an unbelievable job totaling 117 yards on 15 carries. Against the pass we did a pretty good job, only allowing Tannehill to throw for 228 yards and picking him off once. Justin Tuck had another unbelievable game, racking up another 3 sacks, bringing his season total to 11; however the player of the game for our defense today was D.J. Hayden who totaled 4 tackles and had 1 INT and 1 Fumble Recovery.
