Blockbuster trade sends Houston away
Breaking news! The Kansas City Chiefs have just announced they have traded away their Pro Bowl linebacker, Justin Houston, in exchange for wide receiver Brandon Marshall. "We were a Superbowl caliber team last year," explains head coach Andy Reid, "we just had a missing piece to the puzzle. We believe a stud receiver in Brandon Marshall is that piece." The Chiefs, who signed their first round pick Dee Ford to a contract just a few weeks ago, will be expected to step up in a huge way in the outside linebacker position with Justin Houston now gone. |

Re: Coo-Coo Ca Choo! - Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs, Charles, steamroll Titans in opening day
The Titans had shut down Charles for the most part in the first half of the game; Charles had only put up about 40 yards on 10-or so carries. The Chiefs' early lead came mostly from Alex Smith and the passing game, to put up the Chiefs ahead 21-6 at halftime. Charlie Whitehurst and the Titans made a commendable try at a comeback in the third quarter, at one point only being down by a score, but the Chiefs remained committed to the ground game, feeding Charles the ball, letting him burn the Titans on defense in the second half. Charles ended with 229 yards on 24 carries with 2 touchdowns, as well as 5 catches for 46 yards to help lead the Cheifs to a crushing victory, 49-20. About halfway through the fourth quarter, Andy Reid decided to let Charles sit out the rest of the game, letting their two other young backs, Davis and Thomas, split the workload. Putting up 4 carries for 29 yards, it became clear that the rookie De'Anthony Thomas will be the Chief's secondary back, although Reid plans to let Davis get a lot of goal-line carries as well.
Storylines - Week 1 Defending SB Champs tame the Packers In a 34-7 victory, the hosting Super Bowl champs took down Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Russell Wilson had a less than stellar day, only putting up 113 yards through the air. Much of their success on offense came from Marshawn Lynch -- who ran for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns. Backup Christine Michael also put up 54 yards. Lions shutout Giants despite setbacks On Monday Night, the Lions would go on to lose both their starting quarterback and running back, but the Lions would still completely shut out the New York Giants, winning 37-0. Backup Dan Orlovsky didn't have to do much, the Lions defense and rushing game helped them to victory. Colts win a close one against Manning Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning put on one hell of a performance, both quarterbacks putting up very similar stats. In the end, it came down to the Colts defense and their ability to run the ball; Ahmad Bradshaw's late touchdown run helped the Colts get a 26-23 win over the Broncos. Re: Coo-Coo Ca Choo! - Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs manage a comeback, beat Broncos 42-41!
If you asked anyone, not many people would have pictured Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos starting the season 0-2. The Broncos dominated the game in almost every category; with the exception of penalties and turnovers. The Chiefs managed to pick off Manning twice, and were able to scoop up a fumble. 7 false start penalties ended up hurting the Broncos in a major way, and helped prevent what could've been a loss for the Kansas City Chiefs. After Montee Ball went down to an injury in the second quarter, the Broncos found success in rookie running back Juwan Thompson; the rookie ended the day with 134 yards and a touchdown on only 17 carries. Jamaal Charles had yet another huge day, putting up 137 yards on the ground with a touchdown, and 108 yards through the air with a touchdown there as well. It was a crucial sack on Manning on the last play of the game that prevented the Broncos from making any kind of comeback after the Chiefs went up by a point in the second quarter with only 25 seconds left on the clock. It was a rare sight, as Manning fumbled on the sack, which led to a Chiefs recovery and then a few kneel downs by Alex Smith.
Storylines - Week 2 Orlovsky delivers despite loss The Lions, without Matthew Stafford and Reggie Bush -- and now without the sheer force of Ndamukong Suh -- couldn't come up with a win over the Panthers. Orlovsky had a solid day, going 19/30 for 228 yards, 2 touchdowns and no picks... but the Lions couldn't stop the Panthers' rushing attack. Despite Cam Newton being held to no touchdowns through the air, DeAngelo Williams, Cam Newton, and Fozzy Whittaker all scored on the ground. Rams, Seahawks advance to 2-0 It may be early, but the Rams are developing to be the unlikely story of the NFC West. What is considered by most the toughest division in all of football right now, the Rams sit on top of the division along with the defending Super Bowl champs with a 2-0 record. Rams defense tortured Mike Glennon and the Buccaneers all day long, intercepting the young quarterback 3 times and recording countless sacks on him. Injury Roundup - Week 2 Montee Ball (HB, Broncos) - Out 7 weeks / Broken Collarbone Ryan Matthews (HB, Chargers) - Out 3 weeks / Abdominal Tear Dwight Freeney (OLB, Chargers) - Out 4 weeks / Abdominal Tear Junior Hemingway (WR, Chiefs) - Out 3 weeks / Abdominal Tear Travis Kelce (TE, Chiefs) - Out 3 weeks / Shoulder Tear Anthony Castonzo (LT, Colts) - Out 6 weeks / Upper Arm Fracture Sean Lee (ILB, Cowboys) - Out 7 weeks / Upper Arm Fracture Tyron Smith (LT, Cowboys) - Out 3 weeks / Pulled Groin Evan Mathis (LG, Eagles) - Out 6 weeks / Dislocated Ankle Jason Peters (LT, Eagles) - Out 3 weeks / Dislocated Elbow Anquan Boldin (WR, 49ers) - Out 2 weeks / Pulled Groin Matthew Stafford (QB, Lions) - Out 2 weeks / Knee Cartilage Tear Ndamukong Suh (DT, Lions) - IR / Broken Tibia Reggie Bush (HB, Lions) - Out 15 weeks / Foot Stress Fracture Eddie Lacy (HB, Packers) - Out 4 weeks / Broken Hand Brian Orakpo (OLB, Redskins) - Out 4 weeks / Dislocated Ankle Anthony Barr (OLB, Vikings) - Out 2 weeks / Pulled Groin Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Vikings) - Out 4 weeks / Broken Jaw Players of the Week NFC Offensive PotW Drew Brees: 29/41, 258 yards, 3 TD NFC Defensive PotW James Laurinaitis: 12 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT AFC Offensive PotW Jamaal Charles: 16 carries, 137 yards, 1 TD; 7 receptions, 108 yards, 1 TD AFC Defensive PotW Tyvon Branch: 8 tackles, 2 INT |

Re: Coo-Coo Ca Choo! - Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs decimated by Dolphins in first loss
The Dolphins' defense completely destroyed the Chiefs on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs' defense had a hard time trying to stop Tannehill and Moreno/Miller, meanwhile the Dolphins' hard-hitting defense completely shut down both Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles, holding the NFL's leading rusher to only 40 yards on the ground. Alex Smith got the teams' only two touchdowns by rushing the ball. Alex Smith had, quite possibly, the worst game of his career this week against the Dolphins, and will be one he wants to try to move on from next week.
Storylines - Week 3 Broncos lose Super Bowl rematch, start season 0-3 In a very defensive game against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Broncos suffered a tough loss, 16-13. Manning and Wilson were both held without a touchdown; Wilson had 3 picks to Manning's 2. Hillman and Lynch both had their respective team's only touchdowns, both putting up just a little bit over 70 yards on the ground. Off to a good start... The Steelers, Patriots, Redskins, Rams, and Seahawks are the only teams to remain undefeated. The Rams and Redskins are by far the surprise stories of the NFL so far this season; the Rams had an impressive victory over the favorited Cowboys, and the Redskins were able to take down Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy in a close win on Sunday. Injury Roundup - Week 3 Vontaze Burfict (ILB, Bengals) - Out 4 weeks / Broken Jaw Giovani Bernard (HB, Bengals) - Out 2 weeks / Pulled Groin Montee Ball (HB, Broncos) - Out 6 weeks / Broken Collarbone T.J. Re: Coo-Coo Ca Choo! - Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs' hand Pats' first loss of the season
Alex Smith had over 50 passing attempts in Sunday's victory over the New England Patriots. Mixing that with another century day for Jamaal Charles, gave the Chiefs' a winning formula. The Chiefs held onto the ball for almost twice the time as the Patriots did. It wasn't all good for the Chiefs, though, as their O-Line continues to struggle to protect Alex Smith. Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich both had a pair of sacks on Alex Smith, plus another one by rookie Dominique Easley made for a frustrating day for Smith.
Storylines - Week 4 Colts dominate Titans in 48-0 shutout Andrew Luck and the Colts' defense certainly had a day on Sunday, after going wild on the Titans scoreboard, putting up 48 points and holding the Titans without a single score. Walden, Adams, and Freeman all had an interception at Charlie Whitehurst's expense. Andrew Luck had a near perfect day, completing 23 of 32 passes for 254 yards and a hat trick of touchdowns. Blake Bortles' continues to struggle in Jaguars' 4th straight loss The top quarterback from the 2014 draft continues to struggle in his rookie season, throwing for only 81 yards and an interception in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers. Second year back, Denard Robinson, put up the team's only points and was the team's only line of offense, having put up 128 yards on the ground against the Chargers. John Kuhn paves way for Packers after losing final HB to injury DuJuan Harris suffered an injury on Sunday, which will sideline the running back for at least six weeks. The Packers have already lost Eddie Lacy and James Starks... with no halfbacks remaining, fullback John Kuhn assumed the duty, and put up only 21 yards on 17 carries, but the powerful and reliable fullback put up 2 touchdowns on the day, which helped lead the Packers to a key victory over their divisional rivals, the Bears.
