Purdue Gets Lucky

Austin Appleby won't have to buy dinner on campus anytime soon, as the Purdue Boilermakers beat the Cinncinati Bearcats 28-24. After redshirt senior Rob Harris threw 3 first quarter picks and another one in the second he was pulled in favour of the freshman. Down 17-3 after the first half it was a complete and wonderful turn around by the Boilermakers. Purdue's running game wasn't dominating but provided enough of a threat to make Cinncinati stack the box which help Purdue gain 270 yards through the air. The defence didn't play well as a unit but they played individual roles which contributed to the win. They allowed too many pass and rush yards, 404 yards combined. Next week Purdue takes on the Buffalo Bulls at home.

Purdue Announces 2014 Non-Conference Schedule
Purdue has announced the four teams not in their conference next year. Cinncinati plays part two of a home and home series with an option to extend the series additionally afterwards. The Texas Longhorns, a historic program, also plays Purdue next year. Purdue was eager to schedule the game because they want to prove that they own the world's largest drum. Purdue originally wanted a drum for their football team. Texas wanted to one-up Purdue and ordered a supposedly bigger drum. Since then the two schools had a conference scheduled to measure the drums but only Purdue's showed up. Purdue has scheduled Notre Dame, a bitter rival in the battle of the Shillelagh Trophy. Finally, Purdue scheduled Kentucky as they continue a tour of the North of the SEC as they take on Vanderbilt later this year.

Matchup Preview

Purdue looks to take win 2 in the young season taking on a relatively weak Buffalo team. Rob Henry gets the start despite throwing 4 picks in the first half. Look for the team to try to make better strides as a unit, the defence played well individually however.

Purdue Squeaks By

It wasn't pretty, but it worked. The Boilermakers squeaked by a surprisingly difficult Buffalo Buffs team, they snuck out with the indecisive 26-24 victory. The saddest part of the day was that Purdue missed 3 kick tries including TWO extra points.
"I don't know if it was nerves or what but it seemed like the first field goal looked rushed. It was almost as if the snap was off the mark and our kicker had to hurry to get the ball off. Regardless of the missed kicks we won. We are one third of the way to our mandatory goal of a bowl game. However, if we play against the Fighting Irish like we played today we will simply get blown out."

The Quarterback controversy continues in West Lafayette as Austin Appleby, Rob Harris and redshirt freshman Danny Etling all got playing time today.
"Rob is our guy as of right now but we want to get younger players into the mix and see if they contribute to the success in a different way to speak."

Coach Jay seems to try to be keeping a pokerface on the sidelines as well as with the media about all struggles the team may be facing. Will he keep face is the question on most people in North Indiana have on their minds.

Next Week: 2-0 #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Matchup Preview

The Purdue Boilermakers travel for their first away game this season taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Battle for the Shillelagh Trophy. Notre Dame comes into the game ranked #7 in the land while the Boilermakers are riding their two game win streak into Notre Dame Stadium.

Rudy Ruettinger was an undersized defensive lineman who played for the Fighting Irish recording his only tackle, a sack in his final homecoming game. Similar to Rudy the Boilermakers are major underdogs to the much faster, stronger and better Fighting Irish. For many Seniors this is the final chance to show that they can beat the team from South Bend. Expect Purdue to come out with energy and focus and hopefully when the dust has settled, a "W".

Purdue Wins
Purdue won. That's all I have to say they went out their and played the best football they had all season as they shocked the Irish and nation by beating Notre Dame 34-21. The Boilermakers had caught Notre Dame of guard by jumping to the early 10-0 and like a kid with candy, they held on a wouldn't let go no matter what happened.
"I'm really proud of what our guys did today. I joked with them afterwards saying that maybe we shouldn't have won this game because now I expect them to play like this every game."

Rob Harris has cemented himself as the Boilermakers #1 QB after an incredible game today. He passed for over 400 yards throwing 3 touchdowns and only one pick. He kept making good decisions with the ball, never rushing his throws.
"It felt like today was the day everything clicked for me," said an exuberant Harris after the game.

The defence found its identity today and played well enough to preserve the lead.

After knocking off the Irish expectations are higher than ever for this season but will Purdue crack under the pressure.

Next Week: B1G opener vs Wisconsin.

Re: Bang the Drum~A Purdue Boilermakers dynasty

Matchup Preview

Purdue takes on a previously ranked Wisconsin team this week at Camp Randle Stadium. Last week Purdue knocked off a tough Fighting Irish team in South Bend, one of the most rowdy stadiums in college football. Wisconsin was ranked #24 last week and was lead by their rushing attack. Purdue has passed the ball to generate offence. Wisconsin tries to get the stop early as they get tired too easily otherwise. Purdue's defence is bend but don't break. Whichever team forces the other to play their game wins.
