Re: Coaching Diary of Jarek Vanders (NCAA 14)
Week 4 has been full of surprises and upsets. It was one crazy week of football, as the top two teams went down in hard fought games. Alabama, who was projected to win another National Championship this year, went down against a Colorado State team who might be the sleeper team of the year. Clemson went down against a very talented NC State team.
Over in the American conference, teams went 5-2 on the week as there were no conference games played. We are entering conference competition, and most of these teams are biting to go at it for the conference championship. One of the biggest shockers was Rutgers taking down a very talented running team in Arkansas.
The Top 25 has been completely shaken up. Alabama and Clemson went down, as well as Notre Dame. The SEC claims 3 of the 5 spots in the top 5, as Ohio State tries to claw their way to the top spot. However that could all change as this upcoming week there is alot of Top 25 matchups to keep an eye on!!
We take our first look at what is going on in the race for the Heisman trophy. Trevor Knight leading the race after consistent performances all year long, however J.T. Barrett isn't far behind him. This Heisman race is just now heating up and we will see how it plays out in November when it's closer to the end of the season.
The American conference standings changed just a little bit based on the performances this week. USF comes in at 2nd place, but they will be tested this week as they are matched against the #19 Miami Hurricanes.
The players of the week, a couple of hard working athletes trying to get their teams into January. Senior linebacker Jackson Dillon out of Memphis, was all over the field in their win against Arkansas State. He recorded a forced fumble and an interception, along with 3 total tackles, one for loss and assisted on 8 tackles. On the offensive side of the ball, Tennessee senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs, took command of the game against the Florida Gators. His team plays well when he plays well and they were on point this week.
ESPN College Gameday is heading to Fayetteville, AR for the first time since 2006 when Tennessee visited Arkansas. Darren McFadden did alot of running in that game when they got the victory. Well not much has changed, Arkansas has a plethora of running backs they use and they are dangerous. However, Arkansas is coming off of a loss to Rutgers and it will be interesting to see how they respond. Texas A&M has done well all year long, their only loss coming against a then #1 ranked Alabama team. Heisman hopeful Trevor Knight will look to pick apart Arkansas' secondary and take Texas A&M to victory through the air.
