Re: The New Monsters

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

THE FAB 5, WEEK 6

1. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (6-0)

Well on the way to another NFC West crown.

2. CHICAGO BEARS (6-0)

Monsters of the Midway don’t need no stinkin’ QB.

3. HOUSTON TEXANS (5-1)

The AFC South has regressed to being one of the league’s weakest divisions, and the Texans could be the first team to clinch.

4. CLEVELAND BROWNS (5-1)

Believeland.

5. ATLANTA FALCONS (5-1)

16-0 wasn’t going to happen, and they are still the best team in the NFC South despite the upset by the Saints.

Skins Trade Williams Following Bucs Loss

After winning their first game of the season last week, the Washington Redskins pulled left tackle Trent Williams off the trade block. Then, after losing to Tampa Bay to fall to 1-4 and 3 games behind the division-leading Giants, the Skins had a change of heart inspired by the writing on the wall that moving on from Williams will not prevent them from making the playoffs because a number of other things will. The beneficiaries of this decision are Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans, who gave up a 2020 second round pick and left tackle Jackson Barton. Watson has already been ballin’ while having too look over his blind side shoulder, and having the top-tier protection that Williams provides is going to both increase his lethality and prolong his career.

Saints Far From Done With Carr Out

Many fans and pundits were ready to write off the New Orleans Saints after they lost Derek Carr for the season. The Saints even tried to pry rookie Jacob Eason away from the Steelers. All that Brett Rypien, who played better than Carr last week, was go off and lead the Saints to an upset of the Atlanta Falcons that placed New Orleans just one game back in the NFC South. Kudos to Sean Payton for having Rypien prepared to shine.

What's Wrong With Tyron Smith?

Perennial Pro-Bowler Tyron Smith allowed a total of 13 sacks in the past two seasons- 6 in 2018 and 7 in 2019. So far in 2020 he has already given up a dozen, with 3 allowed in his latest contest. Is he dealing with an undisclosed injury? That’s a question many are asking, because he can’t suddenly have forgotten how to block and he’s too young to be past this tipping point. Along with their many injuries, Smith’s struggles are a reason why the Cowboys are a game under .500 after 5 games.

Jets Demote Beachum

Speaking of sacks allowed, Kelvin Beachum has allowed a bushel this season. Adam Gase, who has already had Jonah Williams and La’el Collins switch positions with positive results, has seen enough and has demoted Beachum. Joe Haeg will get the Week 7 start for Gang Green, and that speaks volumes about Beachum’s decline.

Dalton Goes Off In Wake Of Trubisky Trade

Andy Dalton knows he’s a lame duck who is auditioning form his next team in 2020. Prior to Week 6, his play convinced most that being a QB2 somewhere was the best he could hope for. That may still be the case, but in his first game since the Bengals acquired Mitchell Trubisky as a potential mid-season successor, Dalton turned in his best performance of the season, throwing for 440 yards, 3 touchdowns and a 117.3 QBR against a good (?) Philadelphia defense as Cincy upset (?) the Super Bowl hung-over Eagles.

Week 7‘s Top Games

Steelers (3-2) @ Bengals (2-4): Trailing the Browns by a game and a half, the Stillers can’t afford to blow this one, while putting a chip on Andy Dalton’s shoulder may have been the spark the Bengals needed to get back in the race.

Patriots (0-5) @ Raiders (0-6): Somebody going to get their first win of 2020.

Cowboys (2-3) @ Eagles (2-4): The losing team will most likely be taking an unrecoverable NFC East knockout punch.

Game Notes
Sam Ehlinger, named the starter for this game on Friday, and Jake Fromm go head-to-head for the second time in their careers. Ehlinger came out on top in the first meeting when Texas beat Georgia in the 2019 Sugar Bowl. Without his starting tackles to protect him, Fromm is likely to get the sh*** end of the stick again.

Re: The New Monsters

Slingin' Sam Hooks Fromm Again

Sam Ehlinger now has a 2-0 record vs. Jake Fromm. As a junior at the University of Texas, Ehlinger led the Longhorns to a 28-21 upset victory over Fromm and the Georgia Bulldogs while accounting for all of the Horns’ touchdowns. As the Chicago Bears’ third starting quarterback of the 2020 season, Ehlinger once gain led a team to victory over one with From under center as Chicago roughed up the Tennessee Titans 37-10. Ehlinger completed 22 of his 36 attempts for an even 300 yards and hit Jalen Hurd and Tarik Cohen for touchdowns. The third round pick’s QBR for the game was nearly 30 points higher than that of Fromm, who was selected in the first round by the Titans.
