Re: The Patriot Way

Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots
Aug 16, 20181ST2ND3RD4THOTSCORE
Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)02107-28
New England Patriots (1-0)14076-27

  • Tom Brady dominated at the beginning of the game, this time driving down the field twice with crisp passing. This led to a rushing touchdown from James White and a receiving touchdown for Dwayne Allen. However, he threw a costly interception to Eagles' safety Malcolm Jenkins, who in turn ran it 86 yards to the house. Brady would ultimately finish going 16 for 22 and 195 passing yards.
  • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz had seen better days, throwing two interceptions at the Patriots' starting defense, who played the majority of the first half. Safety Patrick Chung and Stephon Gilmore both collected picks.
  • Quarterback Brian Hoyer struggled immensely. His passes were errant and it took him longer than necessary to get into the groove of things. He also threw an interception in the red zone to, you guessed it, Malcolm Jenkins. He would also hook up with Cordarrelle Patterson for a touchdown.
  • Rookie quarterback J.T. Barrett struggled after a spectacular performance the previous week against the Redskins. He only completed 2 of his attempts for 24 yards while being sacked three times in limited playing time. Hitting his targets was difficult but some could credit his struggles to the poor performance of the offensive line. They allowed nine sacks on the day.
  • Quarterback Trevone Boykin got into the game late and led the comeback attempt late in the fourth quarter, collecting the best quarterback rating of the four, with 125.8. He completed 7 of 10 attempts for 77 yards and a touchdown. He hooked up with Braxton Berrios in the end zone with 31 seconds remaining. The 4 yard slant was Berrios' lone reception of the night.
  • Rookie runningback Sony Michel led the team in rushing statistics with 69 yards on 12 attempts. Cornerback Keion Crossen collected three solo tackles and a sack while JC Jackson and Duke Dawson Jr both had three tackles a piece. Kyle Van Noy also intercepted Nick Foles late in the fourth quarter.

New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers
Aug 22, 20181ST2ND3RD4THOTSCORE
New England Patriots (1-1)0770-14
Carolina Panthers (2-0)01409-23

  • Tom Brady only conducted one drive, completing 5 of 6 passes for 60 yards before stalling. Stephen Gostkowski couldn't knock down the deep field goal and that was all we saw of Brady. The Patriots are most likely shutting him down for the rest of the pre-season, especially with the amount of injuries already suffered.
  • Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was held mostly in by the Patriots' starting defense, despite blasting off for a 30-yard designed QB run. He threw for two touchdowns after playing the majority of the game, but was intercepted on a deep ball by Patriots' safety Patrick Chung. Duron Harmon later intercepted Taylor Heinicke.
  • Quarterback J.T. Barrett continues to battle for a spot on the roster. He completed 9 passes out of 13 attempts for a touchdown, although he also threw an interception. Trevone Boykin played efficiently, throwing 10 passes and completing 8.
  • James White saw a lot of action on the ground, even getting banged up a little bit as the game progressed. On 17 carries, he rushed for 78 yards. Trevone Boykin snuck in for a Patriots' touchdown. Jord Gordon finally broke out with seven catches for 93 yards. Tight end Jacob Hollister had himself a game with 5 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
  • Quarterback Brian Hoyer struggled immensely and may have just played himself out of a job after missing his first four passes by a mile. He would finish completing only 2 passes out of 9, as well as throwing an interception. He would also get sacked in his own end zone for a safety.
