Re: The Patriot Way

PATRIOTS LOSE STAR TE GRONKOWSKI FOR SEASON
Gronkowski's latest injury leads to retirement speculation

Since Rob Gronkowski was drafted by the New England Patriots, he has continued his ascent to the upper echelon of NFL royalty. He has proven to be the definition of a mismatch; too big to be covered by defensive backs, and too fast to be covered by linebackers. It's often we see defenses simply attempt to double-team Gronkowski, which has proven futile against the Patriots' offensive dynamo of him, wide receiver Josh Gordon, and always reliable receiver Julian Edelman.

It takes a special force to slow Gronkowski, let alone stop him completely. He has been leading the league in most receiving categories all season long. Which is why Gilette Stadium, and all Patriots' fans held their collective breath when Gronkowski, after making yet another snag and trotting up the sideline, was crippled by a low hit by Buffalo Bills' safety Micah Hyde.

It's a hit Patriots' faithful have seen many times. Gronkowski, standing at an impressive 6'6, and weighing in at a hefty 268 lbs give or take, is a hard player to tackle. Hit low, and chop him down like lumber. Usually, he gets to his feet and shakes it off, but this time, he laid in a crumpled state, clearly in a great deal of pain.

"It's hard to look at, especially when that's your guy, and he's been having such a successful season. We'll miss him" commented Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan, who has been thrust into a quieter role despite the Patriots' dynamic offense. He'll no doubt get more looks with the Patriots looking at more three-receiver sets without their star tight end.

Gronkowski is predicted to miss at least two months worth of football with a dislocated hip, it was revealed. Gronkowski officially finished the season with a so-far league-leading 97 receptions.

Dwayne Allen and Jacob Hollister will fulfill the tight end duties as the Patriots look to finish off the season as the number one seed in AFC, battling with the upstart Cleveland Browns. They face off against rookie quarterback Sam Darnold and the New York Jets in the season clincher.

Now, the rumours will continue to circulate and one has to wonder whether the Wisconsin product has played his final game in the NFL. Gronkowski hasn't played a full season since his second year in the NFL, and has suffered multiple serious injuries. One has to wonder how much longer Gronkowski is willing to sacrifice his body for.

He has won two Super Bowl championships, and made over $50 million in salary from the Patriots. He is considered one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, despite his inability to stay healthy.

"I hope he's back, he's a great player and asset to this franchise. I love Gronk and he'll be with us, whether its on the field grinding, or from the press-box" commented special teamer and captain Matthew Slater.

Gronkowski remains mum on his status going forward and was not made available for immediate comment.

FOUR QUICK POINTS ON THE NFL SEASON:
  • Khalil Mack becomes the sack king: For the past 16 years, former New York Giants defensive stalwart held the distinction of holding the most sacks in an NFL season. It seems like Chicago Bears defensive end Khalil Mack wanted to show to the Oakland Raiders why they should have never traded him, getting to the quarterback a record-breaking 23.5 times.
  • Despite OROY Josh Rosen, Arizona Cardinals hit basement: The Arizona Cardinals thought having a new rookie quarterback in Josh Rosen, and wide receiver legend Larry Fitzgerald back in the fold, would return them to a solid franchise position. They were dead wrong. They, along with the Oakland Raiders, hit the basement with records of 4-12. Patrick Peterson and David Johnson (both suffered injuries throughout the season) may have played their last games in the desert.
  • Philip Rivers is the NFL's MVP: Despite the likes of New England's Tom Brady looking to go back to back, and Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott running his way to the conversation, its Los Angeles Chargers' pivot Philip Rivers who is the 2018 MVP. Rivers threw for 4,286 passing yards and 43 touchdowns while leading the Chargers to a division title.
  • Changes are on the horizon: Kansas City Chiefs' head coach Andy Reid has announced that at the conclusion of the season, regardless of the Chiefs' playoffs outcome, he will retire. The Cincinnati Bengals have parted ways with longtime coach Marvin Lewis. Stars like Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, Patrick Peterson, and Tyrann Mathieu could all find their ways onto the trade market or free agency this off-season.
