Nittanyville

Intro/Settings

Welcome to Nittanyville! I picked up a modded version of NCAA 06 with updated rosters and uniforms and just couldn’t resist running this. I have some ties to Penn State from the Joe Paterno era - and as unfortunate as that turned out to be, I love that this program is poised for a big bounce back. With only four conference championships and four national titles (last in 1986) to its name, my goal is to return the Nittany Lions to the Honor With Success mantra and win another national title.

In real life, this team went 7-6, and just 4-5 in the previous year. In the game, they are rated mostly in the B-range across the board, so there is much room for improvement.

Since this is on NCAA 06, the conferences and schedules won’t be exact. Playoffs won’t exist either, unless I can figure that out somehow. This will be an inexact science, but still fun in my mind.

Shout out to B-Dawg (and a bunch others) who have really awesome reports on here already. Definitely an inspiration.

House Rules

More like guidelines than house rules. I’m not very good at the game, nor recruiting, so there are just a few things that I do that I’ll list here to keep things more on the realistic side. I enjoy the game for what it’s meant to be and I hate cheesy cheesers, so don’t expect to see any cheese here.

Redshirting - I will only redshirt freshmen and/or sophomores who are buried really low in the order of overall ratings. Also, I will not redshirt anyone lower than a 75 overall no matter what their order is.

Play Calling - I use Ask Corso every play and only override him if he calls the same play consecutively, or chooses a play that wouldn’t make sense for the situation.

Recruiting - I don’t recruit many targets out of state or pipeline, but normally I’ll target a few. Especially playmakers that would realistically have every school knocking down their door.

That’s all I can think of for now. I’ll edit this along the way as needed.

Schedule Released

Schedule Release: Penn State gearing for a back loaded slate and five pre-ranked opponents

The schedule is set for another season of Penn State Nittany Lions football.

Taking the field on August 28 to kick off the season, Penn State finds itself in what should be a slugfest against the crosstown rivals and No.17 ranked Pittsburgh Panthers on the road. It doesn't get much tougher than that.

A brief lull is picked right back up with a stretch of loaded Big Ten tilts in mid-late October and early November, followed by a couple bouts against Michigan State and Michigan to headline the holiday season.

Here’s a look at the full slate below:

August 28
at #17 Pittsburgh

September 11
vs Eastern Michigan

September 18 | Big10
at Northwestern

September 25 | Big10
at Indiana

October 2 | Big10
vs Nebraska

October 16 | Big10
vs #2 Ohio State

October 23 | Big10
at #6 Wisconsin

October 30
vs Ball State

November 6 | Big10
at #25 Purdue

November 13
vs Bowling Green

November 20 | Big10
vs Michigan State

November 27 | Big10
vs #4 Michigan

The Nittany Lions will be looking to bounce back from a tough COVID-plagued season in 2020, which saw the team finish at just 4-5 overall after getting off to a very slow start before rattling off four straight wins to end the year.

Team Preview Series: QB/RB

Team Preview: QB/RB Breakdown

Quarterbacks
Starter: Sean Clifford - Sr(RS).

Sean Clifford returns as the starting signal caller for the Nittany Lions as he embarks upon his senior season. While he disappointed last season after an eye-popping sophomore year, he brings experience and veteran leadership to this year’s team. Overall, he’s an average college quarterback with an average arm and athleticism, but could catch the eyes of NFL scouts with a big year if he takes a leap forward.

The exciting thing this year to watch out for is the outside possibility of Clifford getting into the Penn State record books, as he’s steadily climbing the charts and could potentially crack the top two or three spots in multiple areas.

Reserves: Ta’Quan Roberson - So(RS)., Christian Veilleux - Fr.

Ta’Quan Roberson is a dual-threat quarterback entering his sophomore season and shouldn’t see any major time this year unless Clifford goes down. Of course, the coaching staff will try to work in Roberson throughout the season in blowouts and garbage time to get some reps under his belt as the future starter after his predecessor graduates.

Running Backs
Starters: Noah Cain - Jr., Keyvonne Lee - So.

Noah Cain and Keyvonne Lee will be splitting the carries this year. Both are talented backs with Cain possessing a little more speed and Lee more strength and power. However, they are pretty similar in style and one could fall out of the rotation pretty easily in time.

Part-time Starters: Devyn Ford - Jr., Jon Lovett - Sr.

Devyn Ford will largely play the role of third down back and get some passing game work. He possesses speed and shiftiness as an impact player and will see a bunch of touches throughout the game.

Jon Lovett brings the composure and veteran savviness as the lone senior in the backfield. He probably won’t see a ton of time on the field, but will definitely get his chances, especially in two-back sets.

Reserves: Caziah Holmes - So.

Holmes isn’t expected to see much time on the field this year, if any at all. This is a deep group and he might be another year away from playing a role on this team.
