But then I thought maybe when Baez is ready I could trade Castro & hopefully get some nice pieces back to help in my rebuild.

Baez is currently a 73 OVR in Triple A, with A potential. I was thinking by August or September I'd call him up, and he'd have an everyday role by 2015.

So to sum up, should I trade Barney, and plug Baez into 2B? Or, should I make a bigger scale deal trading Castro for a good return, and keep Baez at SS? Advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I would call Baez up in the time frame mentioned and give him starts at SS, 2B, and 3B, and see where he fits best, and go from there.

If you like him at SS (and he plays well), then I would think about dealing Castro. The haul from Castro should be pretty big. If you like him at 3B, then maybe think about shifting Bryant to a corner outfield spot. If you like him at 2B, then nothing too drastic changes, outside of having a quality MIF backup in Alcantara.

How good is Alcantara playing? You could always call him up at the same time, and see how he plays at 2B. Him playing well, could raise the purpose to deal Castro.

Running a franchise with Miami, but have not started yet. I want Jose Abreu and am facing two options:

      1. Put Jose Abreu on the roster beforehand and act like he signed there in the off season. My question for this was how serious you guys think the Marlins interest was? Looked up some rumors and saw that they were targeting him somewhat. I also could release Jones or act like CHI signed him.

Option 2: Trade for Abreu. Would be going for fairness since I realize it would not be realistic for CHI to trade a guy they just signed.

So basically, should I try and keep it "realistic" by making it "unrealistic" and just adding him or just ignore realism and work out a fair trade.

That's a tough question but I think I'd go with the first option. The White Sox will still have Paulie on the roster for his farewell tour and Dunn could get some starts at DH. They could have signed Garrett Jones as a bench bench/RF/backup 1B. Swap Abreu for Jones before starting your franny and be happy ever after

In the first year with Boston, 4 games back at the end of May with the O's making a serious run. Need outfield help and was looking at a package for Stanton and how feasible it would be. Happy to give up Buchholz Middlebrooks and Bradley if need be. Buchholz is struggling and hasn't gone longer than 6 innings and has an era north of 5 after 8 starts, while Middlebrooks is platooning and only hitting .211 off lefties. I can't play with Bradley, that's literally the only reason haha

Hey, this question relates to prospects and I'm having trouble starting a new thread so I'll post here.

When training in franchise mode, do you pick which areas to train your prospects and players or do you let the cpu auto train them? I feel like auto-training in probably more realistic but I also want my prospects to become good hitters. How do all of you train your guys?

Stanton would look real good in a Red Sox uniform

If you search back in this thread, Stanton to the Red Sox has been discussed real in depth around possible scenarios and players that have to be included. Start there and if you can't find your answer, I'd love to help you expand the talks further

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Curious on a few trades in my Padres Franchise. Just sort of thinking aloud here, and most of these would take place in the offseason, if at all. Looking for some feedback on how to acquire some possible players:

                A.) Rangers:
                (SS) Sardinas or (SS/2B) Profar

                B.) Red Sox:
(3B) Will Middlebrooks + (SP) Brandon Workman

                C.) Cardinals:
                Mike O'Neill (LF)

Trade A with the Rangers is sort of a tough one to put together. I would enjoy snagging Sardinas or Profar to man SS for the future in my Padres Franchise (and shipping Everth out). I am willing to trade Cashner in a deal if it helps me now, and gives me some prospects to work with. Could the Rangers use any other Pads pieces instead (probably not)? He sort of seems to be the only piece I have that could land either one. I also like Moreland in a deal, as I figure he could help with 1B and RF (if Yonder and Venable keep struggling).

Trade B with the Red Sox I am also unsure about. I would like to give WMB a chance at 3B when Headley leaves, and Workman to help in the rotation or bullpen next season (depending on where I need him most). I am honestly not sure what the Red Sox need. I would deal Maybin for both (or whatever else to acquire) if the Red Sox thought that deal was fair?

Trade C with the Cardinals I figure I could maybe trade a proven bullpen arm for? Would like for O'Neill to play some 4th OF, and give Quentin some time off, especially late in games.

I am looking for realism and fairness, and advice on one, or all three, on the following. A lot of reading, so thanks in advance!

In my chise Brewers offer Martin Maldonado to the Padres for Casey Kelly. I like trades in my chise to me fair as well as realistic . Should i work this trade out or just decline it ? any input for what players to add to either side?

Decline it. The Padres have no need for a catcher with Grandal, Hundley and Rivera with Hedges developing in the minors.

Maldonado is not worth more than Dale Thayer or Kevin Quackenbush

He's best suited for the AL where he can DH. Send him to Texas for Nick Martinez? To Baltimore for Brian Matusz?

What would you like to target in return?

If he's playing terribly he's not worth much. A C if that.

As the Mets, could I trade Chris Young to the Royals for Bubba Starling? It's only May, so I'm not sure if I'd do this yet.

Right now, the Royals are just 2.0 games back of the division lead but Lorenzo Cain and Nori Aoki are both underperforming.

Young is hitting .282 with a .541 SLG through 85 at-bats, with 6 homers and 4 steals. Their values match up on the spreadsheet but is it realistic?

Want to get some opinions on potentially setting the White Sox in a decent direction. Abreu is obviously a cornerstone player, and I think I'd like to keep Sale as well, but goodness is there a lot of trash on the MLB roster. Also, though he's been incredible for me after a month, Konerko is likely in his last year. So the team is really tracking to get weaker in the middle of the order next season.

We started the year out horribly, but fired Ventura and the hitting coach after a 3-10 start. That helped a bit, and since then, 10-14, but it's obvious this team can't compete. Quintana has also been money early.

I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the state of the White Sox, and I could use some suggestions on what I could do to improve the lineup, and also, how can I improve the catcher position? Flowers makes me cry.

There isn't a lot to sell off with the White Sox because you obviously wanted to keep Abreu and Sale to build around. What I like to do when I'm rebuilding is to try and build through the draft with the occasional big Free Agent if there is one you really want that you think will help. While waiting for prospects is kind of a bummer it's the best way to go about things.

Also, since I don't spend a ton of money on free agents because usually the big ones don't really make it to free agency I've noticed, I like to do a lot of platoons. For example, I'm the Phillies, so I use Howard against RHP and traded for Nate Freiman to play vs. LHP. I also was doing the same in LF. I think you could try and do a platoon and catcher and various other positions. It actually works out pretty well.

The sox have some decent prospects, so I'd keep trying to build that way. Of course as the Phillies I got kind of impatient so I traded away my farm system I had built up from Lee and Hamels trades to trade for bigger players. But as the White Sox I'm not sure they'd realistically do that.
