While a respect a lot of the users here and their baseball acumen, some guys just have "rookie fever". All of them are virtually can't miss, just ask them.

However, I'm stingy with prospects and wouldn't make that deal so wanted to get everyone's thoughts on the deal so I can quit rejecting Boston's CPU trades. Also, Bourns numbers are down from last year. At the all star breaks he's batting .241 3 hrs and 14 RBIs. Another big reason why Ball is too much in my opinion

Looks pretty fair just glancing at the spreadsheet. Not sure how valuable Ball is to the Red Sox though

I don't have the spreadsheet on me right now, but potential wise mixed with stats doesn't seem close to me. This is probably the 4th or 5th time the Sox have offered a deal for Bourn so would like to get them a deal done. Again, being a Giants fan and having a thin farm has made me stingy towards the farm lol

How is Ball doing? I don't think the Indians will give up Bourn easily. Bourn is 2 low B's and a high C and Ball is a high or mid B high C. I think the Indians would want this or more IMO

Hes got a 1.35 ERA right now in 6.2 innings Double A. I'm assuming he started at single A and recently got called up. List as A potential in my franchise. Musing OSFM w/ pitch edits rosters

Trey Ball is an A in OSFM, which is a shame really. The Red Sox farm system is very good, but there are 2-3 guys with A status that really shouldn't have it and then there is poor Rubby de la Rosa with a C POT, lol.

Aside from that, Trey Ball is a very raw prospect that was actually drafted as a 2-way player but decided to go pitcher. He's pitching to the tune of a 6 ERA in A Ball right now and has a high likelihood of busting out imo. It may take him a few years to figure it out, but I don't see how a fringe T100 spect who's struggling is too much to give for a guy like Bourn. While Michael Bourn isn't the greatest player out there, he's worth marginally more to a team that has deep postseason aspirations than he otherwise would be. I would probably let the trade go through (and then edit Ball to have a high B POT, lol). The Red Sox have a ton of pitching depth in their system anyway.

Very very raw haha, but hey Ball has been pretty good lately. All up from here! I just would say it would be unrealistic to deal Ball in a deal just due to him being just drafted last year at #7.

Barnes should be a mid B and someone like Brentz might get a deal done for Bourn? Don't have the sheet up but a mid B and a high C should be good for Bourn unless he is playing over his head.

Very true. I was having a hard time trying to trade a 19 year old with A pot

I don't know about that. Having been drafted in the 1st round the previous year doesn't prevent it from being realistic. Billy McKinney was drafted by OAK in the 1st Rd last year and Addison Russell was taken 11th overall the year before. Trevor Bauer was the 3rd pick by Arizona in 2011 and was traded last year already. If you go back further in time, you can find more examples.

Now, these are generally the exceptions to the rule, but nonetheless my point is that trading a guy in 2014 that was taken in 2013 is not necessarily a realism-breaker.

Fair enough, although part of my point was that Ball shouldn't be an A.

But it might make more sense to you to sub in a different Red Sox SP prospect.

                        Billy Beane Interview Part 1

There's a part 2 to this as well. Love hearing Billy's thoughts on depth, trade season, and building rosters in different ways. Check it out and note Billy's huge smirk when Jim Bowden asks if he's done dealing or not.

I agree just because you're drafted in the first doesn't mean anything. In my knowledge I look at Giants prospect Gary Brown and would I ever put him at an A or B caliber? When drafted in the first round and when he first started maybe but now? Not even close to either.

If I'm the Royals is it even possible to trade for Giancarlo Stanton without giving up Ventura and Zimmer?

I wouldn't think so. If Stanton is getting traded the Marlins are going to want to get a lot.
