Why the hell would Philly keep a reliever when they're 11.5 GB? lol Holmes is fine

For the exact reason he wants to trade for Diekman, he's a hard throwing cheap controllable lefty who gets RH's and LH's out at the end of games. They'd trade Bastardo before they let Diekman go.

I didn't do the trade. I think Diekman is too good for the Phils to let go and didn't want to pry anybody away. If I'm the Phillies I don't think I do this deal and there's no way as PIT I'm going to give up more to get a reliever. It just didn't fit.

How exactly does a good, attrition-likely reliever help a rebuilding ball club?

I definitely see both sides of the coin.

PHI could see next year as a time to make a run at the division if they have all stars align properly for them. Diekman would be a great guy in the pen and has a track record of success with great stuff.

PHI could also just want to rebuild and go ahead and get rid of Diekman for a potential #3/4 starter who could help out their rotation in a few years OR be a valuable trade piece in luring in a big piece to help a playoff push.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

It's that time of the year in my Franchise (July 18th) as I just finished up the All-Star game, leaving me 2 weeks to make some moves for all the teams.

I would like help from anyone who wants to take on the role of GM for their team. I posted a huge Trade Block post with IF, OF, SP and RP that are available along with comments on why their team should trade them. Also posted at the bottom what teams would be interested. Also if you scroll back a few pages/posts you will see the current record and Wild Card race for certain teams.

Rather then post it here and take up a bunch of room, what I would like is for you to check out the tread and then shoot me a PM or just post your trade ideas in my thread with trade ideas for your team. If you don't have a favorite team and just want to help overall, feel free to shoot ideas for anyone and everyone.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Need some advice for around the league for the off season in my chise. The free agency market is awful this year so I'm looking at what impact talent could be moving around.

-Mets already hit rock bottom. 67 wins. It really can't get much worse. Would they trade Wright or Harvey? Harvey TJS, Wright 25 HR .337 average. The main reason they wouldn't trade Wright (idk about Harvey in general, there are lots of reasons to keep him but also to trade him) is attendance and stuff but I mean it really can't get much worse for them so I figure it might be moot.

-White Sox finished last. Mets were second last, White Sox last. Would Chris Sale be otb?

-Guessing Marlins would be game to dealing Stanton when they finished with 69 wins (third last). Dunno what they'd do about Fernandez or Yelich though.

-The Giants are getting gutted, they won 73 games and now they're losing Romo, Sandoval and Peavy (who was actually awesome). Who would they deal? I'm guessing Cain (30, 2.83 ERA but 4 FIP) and Posey (27 y/o .281/17) but not Bumgarner. Pence too I assume.

-Phillies won 74. Hamels and Lee are probably on the move. What would someone deal for Howard? Hit .295 with 25 homers.

-Would the Royals deal Alex Gordon (.290/22) when they finished 75-87?

-Just who in general would the Cubs be likeliest to deal out of the following? Estimated WARs in parentheses. Presumably for pitching.
                Castro (3)
                Baez (-1)
                Russell (4)
                Rizzo (1)
Bryant (0, pretty average in AAA at 23, nothing special)
Alcantara (0 but did play, SSS)

-Would Heyward be on the move in his contract year? I think he will be honestly.

-Would the Reds move Latos or Cueto? Latos is a rental.

No one would trade for Howard and that contract.

Depends on how Heyward performed and how many games he was healthy for, but for the most part I doubt he gets dealt.

                      The Mets wouldn't trade Wright.
I agree with Scott on that no one would want Howard and his contract.
And I think the Braves would want to resign Heyward instead of trade him right?

Heyward certainly doesn't appear to be resigning lol

I'm a little surprised you guys don't think they'd deal Wright. Not like they can go much lower.

NYM- Not Wright. Would give Granderson away. Wheeler is probably gone.
CHW- Not Sale, Rondon, Abreu, Garcia. Everyone else is yard sale.
MIA- Stanton goes :-( Everybody else stays.
                          SF- Hold.
PHI- Howard retires in Philly. What does TOR give for Lee?
                          CHC- Castro
                          ATL- Yeesh. 6:5 pick 'em.
                          CIN- No

Stanton, Cain, Hamels, Lee, and Latos are the only ones I'd be somewhat comfortable moving. Even then, I don't think any of these guys go unless there is a perfect fit/return.

Wright seems like a fit with the Dodgers. Would they deal one of the magic three (Pederson, Urias, Seager) plus more fillers for him? Probably focus on bats in a potential return package

They'd have to move Uribe somewhere. He's pretty solid down at 3B. .280/20 with defense.
