Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Here's my point: Rather than tell people what's realistic or not, just say what a guy would be worth.

Obviously a guy like Wil Myers or David Price or Andrew Heaney or whoever are less likely to get dealt, unless the team is getting a pretty good return. Just say what that return should be.

If that's a stud Major League veteran, or a Major Leaguer and a top prospect, or a package of prospects, fine. Think like a GM, not like a dumb fan worried about whether your team would actually trade that guy or not.

Get real value. If that prospect is worth Miguel Cabrera to you, fine. If superstar is worth three prospects to you, cool. That's how these real GMs are doing it. They're looking at what they're getting in exchange, not who the guy is they're dealing.

Probably not gonna happen. If you want to be realistic, you'll have to give up some kind of value, not just scrubs.

In other words, the Angels would want a pretty good haul in exchange for Trout.

Quite frankly, if you don't agree with the way something is being done, move on or do it better, idk what else to tell you tbh, not having an argument on semantics

There were no fewer than EIGHT (8!) "unrealistic" trades between the start of the 2014 season and today.

-Jason Heyward, OF, ATL -- Franchise cornerstone (traded this off-season to STL for RHP Shelby Miller)

-Austin Jackson, OF, DET -- Signed extension (traded during 2014 season to SEA in 3-team deal for LHP David Price)

-Andrew Heaney, RHP, MIA -- Team thinks highly of him (traded [TWICE] this off-season for SS Dee Gordon, RHP Dan Haren [maybe])

-Addison Russell, SS OAK -- Team thinks highly of him (traded at 2014 deadline to CHC for RHPs Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel)

-Corey Hart, OF, SEA -- Just signed with team (DFA'd in September)

-Allen Craig, 1B/OF, STL -- Franchise cornerstone (traded during 2014 season to BOS for RHP John Lackey and prospect Corey Littrell)

-Ryan Hanigan, C, TB -- Signed extension (traded [TWICE] this off-season to SD/BOS for who knows at this point)

-Wil Myers, OF TB -- Franchise cornerstone (traded this off-season in 3-team deal to SD for Jake Bauers, Burch Smith, René Rivera, Steven Souza and Travis Ott)

-Brett Lawrie, 3B/2B, TOR -- Team thinks highly of him (traded this off-season to OAK for 3B Josh Donaldson)

Guess no one told these General Managers it's not realistic to trade these guys...

And my point was that people say they're worried about "realistic" trades when they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. You're telling me that if someone said they were going to trade Prince Fielder from DET to TEX for Ian Kinsler before last year you'd say that was realistic or a "likely" deal?

B.S. Everyone here would've shouted that down and said that'd never happen after Fielder signed that huge deal in DET and that it wouldn't make sense.

As you can see by the view/post count, this is one of the most prolific threads on this entire website every year and a lot of people benefit from it. If you don't like how this thread has operated, then why not start a new one that you like better? I don't see the point of puffing your chest out and trolling this thread on Christmas Day of all times. Your posts are dripping with condescension and I understand neither the timing nor the purpose of it.

Would also like to mention that Heyward (1 year of control), Myers (purposely leaked attitude concerns), Heaney (my bad, very few prospects are unrealistic + Marlins), Hart (injuries), Craig (injuries), and Hanigan (new GM) would all be trade candidates if I'd made the sheet at the end of the season.

What do you think I can get for Gyorko? He is now A potential after a solid first half.

Also, any ideas on improvements or moves with my team? It looks like this. Btw I play every game and don't sim.

              1. Solarte (SS) B Pot. .327
              2. Alonso (1B) B Pot. .283
              3. Upton (LF) A Pot. .373
              4. Kemp (RF) A Pot. .287
              5. Myers (CF) A Pot. .205
              6. Norris (C) B Pot. .246
              7. Gyorko (2B) A Pot. .276
              8. Middlebrooks (3B). C Pot. .212

Most are pretty awful fielders. Solarte, Kemp, Middlebrooks, Gyroko, Norris are all near the bottom of the league in Fielding %. Myers and Alonso are fine but Upton is below average as well.

              SP Cashner 2.17 ERA
              SP Ross 2.42 ERA
              SP Kennedy 3.83 ERA
              SP Luebke 3.43 ERA
              SP Wisler 3.18 ERA

              RP Thayer 4.23 ERA
              RP Vincent 2.16 ERA
              RP Morrow 4.24 ERA
              RP Johnson 4.14 ERA
              RP Stauffer 6.78 ERA
              RP Quackenbush 2.73 ERA

I'm playing as the white Sox with the offseason rosters and I'm looking to trade maybe Danks, Alexi, Vicedo, and possibly Quintana. I'm just wanting to know so of the value or possible trade scenarios. I know I'm looking for a C, Bullpen, 2B. I plan on signing Cabrera to replace Alexi at SS. Thanks for any help.

If you package Quintana and Alexei together you could probably get a B and a few lower level prospects. I'm not exactly an expert on this and not really familiar w/ the Sox organization but that is what I would do if I were the White Sox.

You could get a lot more than that imo

What would the Rays ask for Jake McGee? I'm the Padres and they are out of contention.

When 15 drops, I have decided to play a test season with the Giants, but I want to have
                        Clayton Kershaw join Madison Bumgarner.
While I'm aware this would never happen IRL, would it be fair to straight up trade Buster Posey for Kershaw,
or should I add more to the mix?

                            Rays franchise.

I pretty much lost all my power with Wil Myers and Matt Joyce trades. Zobrist will probably be traded as well so that really leaves me with Longoria and Sousa. I was looking to acquire Chris Carter from the Astros. Want to know what it would take to get him. Archer is off the table.

                              Odorizzi? Jennings?

That could work. I can move Kiermeier to CF to replace Jennings.
