    3. Hold R1 to lean out and keep left on the stick. Your player will move back on first movement of a pickoff and usually be safe, even when leaning.
    4. On getting a good jump: watch the catcher, not the pitcher. Some pitchers' windup animations start slightly before they move. If the catcher "bounces" into his crouch, you know the pitcher is going home with it.
    5. Soon as you see the catcher bounce, take off, and look at the pitcher. If the pitcher slide-steps, go back to the bag, as you'll usually be out. If the pitcher does his normal stretch, keep going.
    6. Always slide head-first to the right of the bag. Sliding headfirst straight on will get you there faster, but going to the right of the bag helps avoid the sweep tag. If you get a good enough jump you can slide headfirst straight on, which will make it easier for you to advance in case of a wild throw.

On a kind of related note, if one of your teammates is taking a big lead at second and you see the 2B or SS sneaking behind them for a pickoff, there's a small timing window where you can call timeout at the plate to keep the pitcher from picking them off.

Not just in stealing. In running from home to first. It was just as slow. With 90 speed you should get there faster than a big guy with 40 speed. Even if you don't make it in time to be safe on the throw. You should be closer to the plate than the 40 rated guy. And not just buy a step or two. By a considerable margin. I would expect to see some close throws where its a judgment call some times. But I never saw anything like that.

I have literally played EVERY position except pitcher in RTTS in Showcase and I always get picked by the White Sox. This ruins the mode for me because it's not realistic to always get taken in the 1st round 3rd pick by the SAME team.

Do I just need to purposely suck so I get picked in the 2nd or 3rd rounds so I can atleast get picked by a different team than the White Sox?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but did you pick your team first before the draft? If you pick the team, you will always go to that team.

Assuming not, then that's just wild coincidence and ChiSox must really be hurting.

        1. Can you use custom OS rosters in RTTS game mode, or is that only a franchise thing?

        2. What is the heaviest you can make your player? I want to make a fat 1B slugger. lol!
I believe you do get points. I simmed through a week of games and got points after it was done.
        1. Yes
        2. You can make a Big Papi type first baseman.

Does the baserunning ability help you get back to the bag in a pickoff attempt?

I watch the pitchers front leg. If it moves, I go. I rarely get caught stealing with my 90 speed guy.

I do the same thing a lot of the time, but against lefties with deceptive pickoffs I found myself biting on the fake too much so I started looking at the catcher.

Most of the slowdown is going to be coming out of the box. The game will "cheat" on your animation so the fielding animations have time to play out to get an out. Even with a lefty 99 speed guy, you hit a ground ball with a guy on 1st you will take forever to get out of the box, so the animations catch up to get a double play. One-hand follow-throughs do seem to get out faster than two-handers on normal plays.

Hm, sorry, I don't see the same thing with my player. I've experienced quite a few close plays at first and I've actually legged out a few infield hits. I also have 1 inside the park HR (in 2 attempts) and lead the team in triples. Doesn't mean it's not really happening to you though. Hope you find a solution.

Last year they had a thing where you could see every team's roster and it would tell you when and how every single player was acquired, i.e. '2011, draft.' '2008, free agent'. So at the very least you could follow along with your team's transactions. I would always use it in the offseason to see who we were signing in free agency.

My guy is 90 speed to but the catcher moves before the pitcher. Now it's so easy to steal second I have to stop myself from doing it sometimes. And if I get a lead on second without the pitcher trying to pick me off every time I move I will make it easily.

I always do Contact and then Plate Vision (or whatever one says it helps you make better contact) on all my players. Batting is the most fun for me so I want to be able to more easily put the bat on the ball and make good contact.

                              I have a starting pitcher N.T. Jones 6-10 230

                              4 seam fastball-97
                              12-6 curve-79
                              sinker-84

I wish I had put a change up and slider in there instead of the curve and sinker.

I wanted something that broke but had a nice dip in speed as my fastball hits 99 regularly.

rookie showcase had 9 shutout no hit innings 14 ks 3 walks I went 5th overall to the cubs

I've made 7 starts, in my first two, I went 15 innings gave up 5 walks, 0 hits and had 21 strikeouts, my next two were just awful 5 innings each 3 er in one then I battled control issues and only gave up one earned, even with that I took 3 straight no decisions. I bounced back some in game 4 went 7 strong gave up 4 hits, 3 walks 2 earned and struck out 10. In my next start it was possibly the most dominating I've ever seen. complete game shut out, 2 hits 1 walk 14 strikeouts. I struck out the side twice and ended the game with a 4 pitch strikeout culminating on a swing after the ball was in the mitt by the player. Just nasty

currently 3-0. I have no idea where that 7th start comes from.
