That sounds like an awful combination lol. I have to imagine zone hitting without the PCI is like a blind man swinging a cane. If you want the PCI off for a cleaner screen, I would recommend analog

I use analog (with PCI off) but, just like you, can't hit **** right now. It's more due to me being promoted to AAA too soon, and my dynamic difficulty also jumped up to All-Star too soon. And both of those things happened pretty much simultaneously (graduated to All-Star difficulty while in AA, then got promoted to AAA like 6 games later) so I am just reeling right now. Hitting .220 through my first 41 AB's with only 1 extra base hit .

I feel like these AAA pitchers are hitting the black way too easily. I try to be patient but then when I go into protect mode with 2 strikes I'm so jittery because their breaking stuff is way nastier than it was in AA. Seriously need this thing to drop me back down to Veteran hitting pretty soon. Don't want to get downgraded from A potential to B or something because of this awful slump.

I'm using Analog with Veteran level. I'm new to the MLB series. In the beginning it was harder but now my guy is on a big time roll. Key is watching the feedback after bad swings that's shown prior to the next pitch. I used it to figure out how to start my stride at the right time. Makes sense.

The main challenge I have now is figuring out how to lay off a bad pitch, which I rarely can do. That and hitting anything off-speed.

Anybody else never get a day off? In previous rtts they would rest you too often even if you had high durability. Now half way through the season and 60 durability I've played every game but 1. I do play DH often so that might be why.

My 3rd baseman hasn't missed a game and I'm halfway through May. My durability is around 65.

Speaking of which my guy is in absolute beast mode. He has more votes for the AA allstar game than any MLB player for their allstar game.

Did fine in the showcase, drafted by my Dodgers, felt like a kid in a candy store. Literally jumping up and down making a ruckus.

Tore it up during the first month in AA, then got called up to the show in the first week of May. WAAAAH?? Is this some bug? But anyway...

My first start is @ Washington. Nearly shaking from being afraid and scared at having to face some of their bats. But I did ok, got a no decision, pulled in the 6th inning.

My second start is where the magic happened. Mother's Day home game versus the Giants. Sell out crowd, not an empty seat anywhere. "oh great.." here we go again.." But I did ok, the best part- the game is 0-0 in the 5th, and I, the lowly pitcher is up to bat with bases loaded, with Hudson pitching. Ended up hitting a miracle blooper (I really stink at hitting!) for a base hit w/ 2 RBI's. Won the game 3-2 and got player of the game.

Extremely memorable game. I can only imagine what the rest of the season has in store.
LOL That is the same pitches I have. 4 seam, 12-6, slider, and just added circle change couple days ago. Can't decide for the last one, maybe cutter or 2 seamer

Man I really got hosed...facing the opposing pitcher, walked him with 4 balls. The thing is, first pitch I missed with a slider. Second pitch I threw a fastball, aiming low, and hit the accuracy marker to the dot, and he threw it wide right, ball 2. Third pitch, decided to not even move the marker, just pitch down the middle. Again, hit the accuracy marker dead on. Pitch goes low and inside, ball 3. Try again, straight down the marker, hit the accuracy line, up and away, 4 pitch walk. WTF! This was only in the 5th inning, where I was cruising through the opposing batters. >.<

And of course, being pissed off I laid a circle change high and Tulowitzki almost hit a homer, ball went off the wall and scored the pitcher.

I thought I read once not to use timing and to use Zone with PCI off (so you're bat just stays in the middle essentially).

Any extra tips would be awesome.

Has anyone had a problem with losing saved progress?

Last night when I loaded my local save I noticed that my last 10 or so games were not there! That was several hours of game play lost. Not only that, but I batted .500 during that streak and had a 15 game hit streak going. My guy was crushing it. Overall I was batting .350.

I replayed those games and didn't do nearly as well - now I'm batting .290. I was really enjoying this game but this took a lot of wind out of my sail.

After each RTTS session I choose Save and then overwrite my latest save with the new one. That seemed to have worked fine up until this time. Wondering if there is a bug here or someone I managed to flub something.

I'm so disenchanted after this and his poor performance that I think I am going to start over and chalk up the past 30 games as practive, and start over from scratch. My guy is a D potential so with hindsight I guess its best to plan to play through with an A or B potential assuming I can achieve that.

My guy tends to get a day off once every two weeks or so. I'm the best player on AA Springfield right now. Playing 3B, and despite not really having any other options, they still find time to rest me on occasion. My durability is in the 70s right now, but I was hurt a couple weeks ago with a bruised shin. I was forced out for two games.

The DH who hits clean-up behind me (Leal), as far as I can tell, has never had a day off (unless he had off one of the same days as me, but that seems unlikely as the team would be sitting its best two hitters). That could be the why. As a DH you don't get "used up" as much.

Speaking of durability - is that what the red bars are showing next to each player's name in the line-up screen shown just before the start of each game (tending to range from about 50-60)? Been wondering what that was.

What do you guys recommend as the best build-out (where to apply the 5 major points when creating a character, if I'm using the build-out term correctly) for a shortstop?

I am thinking of applying all 5 points to hitting. My reason is this - from playing about 30 games it seems you definitely rack up a lot more points from hitting (especially big hits with RBIs etc) than you do with fielding.

Racking up these training points faster should then enable me to go back and fill it some of the weaker areas that were the result of not applying points there in the build out.

Is this a sensible theory and strategy? What have you guys found that works best?

In terms of pure training point costs, if you plan to be a well-rounded 5-tool player, 5 Speed and 5 Arm are the way to go. As an example, it's way cheaper to go from a 15 contact/vision (1 contact) to 40 contact/vision (4 contact) than to go from 35 speed/20 steal/25 agg (2 speed) to 90 speed/65 steal/75 agg (5 speed).

But as you said, being a good hitter will help you do better in the showcase, get a higher potential, and potentially earn more points. But don't overlook the value of baserunning and fielding. So many people seem to skip baserunning/fielding, and they miss out on a lot of points.

If you sim hitting, you get half the amount of points you would have earned if you do the same thing. If you sim baserunning or fielding, you get zero points. You're potentially giving up a ton of points per game simming running and/or fielding.

As an example: If you get on first, stealing second will be worth 13-16 training points (5 points for taking 2nd, 1-4 points for jump (poor, ok, good, great), and 7 points for moving into scoring position). You get 3 points for scoring a run, 6 for scoring a tying or go-ahead run, and bonus points for tagging up, or advancing on a ball in the dirt.

Fielding is basically a guaranteed extra 5-10 points per chance. Outs are 5 points each, and if you fielded the ball, you get between -2 and 3 extra points for your reaction. As a SS, your average ground ball is up to 8 points, double plays where you cover 2nd are 10 points, double plays you field and take to 2nd yourself are up to 13 points.

In my opinion, compared to hitting, which is worth between 0 and 40 points per at bat depending on the outcome, fielding and baserunning are more consistent.

Created a 2B in the Pedroia mold. Had a nightmare of a showcase with 1 base hit (got picked off first), a bunch of strikeouts and a few throwing errors. Drafted in the 6th round by the Twins with D potential.

Finally got my feet under me in AA and tore it up for 2 months. My potential then changed to C and my career trajectory became future big leaguer.

The Twins called me up during the first week of June. No AAA. I have been in a slump since I got to the bigs and have hovered around .200 hitting leadoff and 9th. I never had to come off the bench. They just handed me the starting position. My adjusted overall continues to fall while the AAA 2B is starting to pick it up. I better get out of my slump soon or I’ll be back in the minors.

I’m really loving RTTS this year without the advancement goals.
