    RTTS FIELDING

One issue I've had with the fielding (as far as outfielders go) in this game going back a few years is that, if the game deems a ball not "yours" it won't show you the ball indicator, even in situations where you could have made the catch and the other fielder did not or could not.

    For example:

    <embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://v8.tinypic.com/player.swf?file=hw9zwm&s=8" height="420" width="440">
Original Video - More videos at TinyPic

    hopefully that embed works.

As you can see, I could have made it to that fly ball, if I would have had any clue where it was going. I would have been able to take a more direct line to it, and try to time a dive or a jump rather than blindly try and jump for it with no idea what I'm doing. Hell maybe I wouldn't have even needed to dive or jump if I would have seen exactly where it was going. But since it wasn't "mine" I was just basically completely in the dark. Even if I wasn't able to catch it, I at least would have been able to try.

I think they should come up with some other way to signal that the other outfielder has "claim" on a fly ball, but still show you the catch indicator 100% of the time so you can make the decision on whether or not to pursue or overrule the other fielder.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

I'm still working out how I want my settings for pitching in franchise, but I think my hitting settings are pretty well locked in. And that means it's time to start an RTTS!

I'll be playing a Willie Mays Hayes (from Major League) CF. Runs like Hayes, hits like ****, you know.

My settings will be as follows:

All Sliders default. You may be surprised at just how good of an experience this is giving me.

Difficulty: Starts at Legend, drops a level for each level of promotion (therefore, All-Star once I reach MLB). I'm quite confident that this will keep me on True HOF Difficulty for the entire duration of the career.

Batting: Zone Hitting, Guess Pitch off.

Fielding: Analog, Throwing meter off (until it's addressed in a patch, that means throwing errors will be AI controlled)

Manual Catch ON. Yes, you heard me. I've been practicing and I'm pretty decent at it. Balls over my head will still be trouble, but I've got a pretty good handle on things now. Improving my reaction will help loads here as I won't have to think about moving to the ball AND catching it quite as much (reaction makes the flyball indicator appear faster, giving you the ability to get a better jump). My timing on the actual catch is pretty good, and it's pretty forgiving.

I'll be taking a realistic angle on this whole thing as far as development goes. The removal of goals allow for a bit more freedom in how we develop a player, and I intend to use that to its fullest. To that end, I will not increase my player's attributes during the season, keeping in line with the rest of the RTTS universe which has static ratings until the offseason. I will only use training points mid-season to keep attributes from declining. Even then, I probably won't use them all in the offseason - I definitely want to save some in case I end up in a bench role and find myself lacking in points. Typical yearly progression for a young A potential player in Franchise mode is usually no more than 6 or 7 points in any one category, and I probably won't go over that.

This means I'm going to let adjusted overall have a much greater impact on my progress through the system. Adjusted overall is stats based as well as ratings, so if the ratings stay static I will only see it rise or fall based on my performance during the season. And that should determine my role in the organization. It will absolutely take me longer to reach the majors this way than 99% of the other people who play RTTS. But that's just how I've chosen to play it, and I'm glad we actually HAVE that choice this year.

I plan to stream it to Twitch at my channel below (link in sig). Tune in if you want to watch! I'll post in the Streaming Posts thread when I go live with this, and I'll try to give updates monthly in this thread.

I could see this either being really awesome, or going really poorly for you lol. I can't imagine being in the minors for longer than 2 years, but with this progression plan I'd be surprised if you were much higher than a 65, if that, by the end of year 2.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

Can I please have suggestions on the most realistic level to play RTTS? I used my gamestop points and now have my guy maxed 99 in all hit categories in my 2nd year. Problem is, I hardley ever see any pitches. When I do, I just can't get a jolt into one. Tons of fly outs and dribblers. 1 HR and 8 RBI one whole month in! Currently using TNK sliders. Any advice appreciated!!!

As a pitcher, how do you pickoff a player trying to steal? Is it something to do with L1? All I see is pitch out or intentional walk...

Does anyone else have trouble while on base seeing where a hit popup or fly ball is going? I am using the default cameras, which I live very much. However when a teammate hits a fly ball or high popup I can't see where its going. A lot of the time the camera is zoomed in on me. Its not until the last second that I can see the player fielding the fly.

I have to rely on running assist to know whether I should be running to the bag or holding up waiting for a catch to be made.

Any suggested changes or work arounds? I thought I read you could hold R1 and it would give you a view of the ball or something but that doesn't seem to work.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

I have 30,000 stubs from purchasing through Gamestop. I am thinking of using them to boost my players abilities. Right now I'm 20 games into my first AA season and hitting .295. My Potential is a C and I am playing shortstop and bat at the top of the order.

However I'm a little concerned that using these points to boost my player will spoil the game for me, at least for part of it. I am driven to play and do well so I can earn the training points, and do it over and over game after game. That's my incentive as I'm sure they nicely designed it.

On one hand, using the stubs for this will be helpful because I don't get a lot of time to game in general. So effectively it could allow me to boost my player today just like I had built him up over a couple of seasons earning training points the hard way. But then again I don't want him to be too good without earning it because that could take some of the fun out of it.

Curious what you guys think and what your experience has been with this. Will spending the stubs ruin the game? Maybe I'll just do 6,000 instead of all 30,000. I know I say that now, but then I'll likely want to keep going back to the well for more points. Since the stubs are free though, its kinda hard to lay off them. What else could I use them for anyway? I see they are good for Franchise mode but I'm new to the series and haven't played that mode yet, so I have no idea how useful they'd be there.

                    Thanks!

Hold L2. You'll get a much better view of the ball.

                        First update! (End of April):

First, the ratings. Again, I plan to play with these throughout the entire season:

                        And his stats thus far:

Total Training Points saved up: 1303

These stats are, on the whole, right around what I was getting while testing this out, so I'm pretty satisfied. Average is down a bit (I was averaging around .230 in testing), and I've only had 1 extra base hit (a triple on Apr 30), but I think that will come around. It's not going to be easy, that's for sure, but I really do think I'll enjoy it more this way being able to put up a full season of consistent stats. In case you're wondering, the 8 steals have me tied for second in the Eastern League. Literally the only thing holding me back from running away with this title will be getting on base.

I was a little worried about the upkeep costs of keeping my speed at 90, but it only costs around 120 points so I don't think that will be an issue. I'll probably have to put 4 points into it as the season goes on to keep from regressing and that's pocket change compared to what I'll have saved up.

First month was pretty fun - on to May!

I brought back 1B Anthony Martinez for another year and I decided to record it all this time. Yes its another RTTS Youtube series, but I'm trying to be a little more cinematic and story-based with this one, and I think you guys would enjoy it.

I just put out Episode 3. I haven't hit a HR yet, but I am hitting .300+ on All Star Batting a month into the season and I SHOULD be getting called up to the Albuquerque Isotopes soon.

Here is the link to Episode 3:

I hope you guys enjoy and I will keep updating in this thread.

Very cool! Do you find that you can beat out most bunts? My guy is speed rated at 75 and I probably beat out about 50% of my bunts. I can imagine at speed 90 you must basically beat out everything.

Also I am curious - why do you like to save up points? I see some people like to do this when I watch streams. I use my points almost as soon as I get them. At the most I might skip a single game once in a while without training. The way I look at it, having them saved up doesn't buy me anything and the guy could be hitting and fielding with better performance if these were applied. At least that is the way I look at it so I am curious on your perspective. Thanks.

Yeah - IF I get the drag bunt down I'll probably beat it. But I still can't really do it with runners on in a force situation, so I can't just do it all the time. I've beaten out about 5 or 6 infield hits too.

I'm saving points because, as I mentioned in my first post, I'm only going to progress my player the day before starting the offseason. I won't use the training points mid-season except to counter regression. This is the first year I've been able to do that without screwing up my progress because goals have been removed. It'll let me keep the same ratings and I can see a realistic stat line play out. And I'll get promoted/demoted based on my in-game performance rather than ratings. I'm purposely doing this different from the way most people do RTTS's, partly because I want to see how the stats play out and partly because I want to see how the front office AI handles it.

                                N.T. Jones

8-1 He's now pitched 15 scoreless innings headed into the all star break. 8 against cincy where he didn't have his best stuff, giving up 7 hits, but surrendered no walks, struck out 9 an left with a cushy 1-0 lead which the cubbies held onto for the win!

next up was atlanta, there was some obvious concern there. However 7 strong strong innings of pitching saw him get 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to get his 6th straight win.

                                7ip 3 hits( though it should have been 1 hit and 2 errors) 1 walk 11k 0er 0r

named NL starting pitcher in the ASG. goes 2 innings of 1 hit ball 2 strikeouts 1 walk 0er 0r

Mr. Jones is the leading candidate for the cy young, and rookie of the year.
