So my question is: Do you guys generally find it more fun and receive more opportunities playing SS or 2nd base?

I built a 2nd baseman earlier and enjoyed using him but I haven't tried SS this year. The Marlins have struggling players at both potions so neither would appear to affect my road to the majors.
I'm playing as SS. I was moved briefly to 3B and didn't like it at all - not much action. Playing SS is a little boring at times - pretty monotonous. But you get a good amount of action so can build up some nice training points. Haven't tried second but that could be a good way to mix things up a little.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

Had a weird game my last outing with my SP.

Through 7 I had pitched relatively well, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits (got touched up in the first for a run and also allowed a solo shot at some point), but for the most part I was mowing guys down. My pitch count was pretty high though - 107 through 7, which is "over par" for me. (I consider "par" 15 pitches per inning - if youre at or below that you're fine pitch count wise).

However, my manager ran me out there for the 8th. I should also mention we were winning 11-2 at the time, so I was more than a little confused.

Naturally, I struggled. Walked a guy and gave up a hit before inducing two flyouts. Next batter I gave up another hit to load the bases. Im literally at 122 pitches at this point, and pretty much begging to be taken out. Zero energy left.

Nope, left in. I walk in a run. Please, take me out coach.

Nope. Leaves me in to face the next guy, who promptly smacks a bases clearing double.

Just a little frustrating to be left out there like a piece of meat and lose development points.

ShortStop (San Francisco Giants ) 3rd round draft:

First one I created. I used my free 30,000 stubs to ramp up my guy. I suck at hitting so i needed all the help I could get - and after 2 months or so of killing minor league pitching i got called up the the Show. It sounds silly - but I get so tense with every game. After about 2 months in the bigs I am really not hitting that well (.266, 13 HR and 40 RBI) I keep thinking I am one slump away from being sent down. I will say this tho..after all the games in small parks with sparse crowds....when I jumped to the majors I was a little starstruck. I never realized how lovely AT&T park is...and it is lovely. The Giants are fighting for a wildcard and are 4 games out of first place in the division after about 100 games in. I sure wanna make the playoffs.
        UPDATE

We made the playoffs! Finished with 88 wins and qualified for the wild card play in game .... Against the HATED Dodgers. The game was epic. It went 16 innings and we prevailed 6-5! What did I do? I went 1 for 9 with a single.

        Stop mocking me!!!!

We ending up loosing in the NLDS after 4 games to the Cards. I managed a whopping 3 hits the whole series...but 1was a HR. Just sad.

Off season was offered a 2 year deal for $1M to stay with club. I signed quickly just happy I wasn't cut after my dreadful postseason. On a good note 5 games into spring training I am killing it. Already with 3 homers and hitting above .300

Very cool. Congrats. Is there any usefulness placed on the money you are offered, or is it just a feel-good/bragging rights type of thing?

Also if you decline an offer what happens? Are you automatically then traded?

There's no point to the money, it's completely arbitrary. EDIT: By this logic, it makes a lot of sense to sign the LOWEST priced deal you can, so that your team has more money to use to buy other useful players to help you win.

I haven't tried declining an offer this year, but in previous years, if memory serves, once you passed the date that eligible players needed to be signed by and you hadn't signed, your club would just re-offer a similar offer AND one or two other clubs would offer really low-ball offers, since you'd technically be a free agent. Then you just pick whichever offer you want, or you sit out the year (which there's no point to because you don't accrue training points). This is assuming you're talking about before your 6 years of MLB service time is up. I don't know for sure that it functions the same this year, so someone else who's tried this year may be able to offer more insight.

No it never worked like that lol

If you keep declining the offer from your club, they just renew your contract. You don't have a choice. They can renew it for a percentage of whatever it was the year before. I think it's 90%. This is of course unless you're eligible for arbitration. When you're eligible for arbitration, other clubs still can't offer you anything UNLESS your team elects to not offer you arbitration by a certain date, in which case you do become a free agent, but I've never seen that happen. What normally happens if they don't want to pay you a big arbitration salary is that they'll trade you before the arbitration deadline. That happened to me a few times.

After your 6 years are up and you're FINALLY a free agent, if you decline every offer you get in free agency you'll get to pick a team to "try out" with in spring training. Then, assuming you are a highly rated player, as you should be after 6 or more seasons, they'll offer you a pretty solid contract at the end of spring training

Just thought this was weird in my RTTS. Made a SS and got drafted by the cardinals. Played most of 2014 in AAA, (got called up to AAA in early June) and I finished 2014 hitting .315. I thought going into the next year I might get a spring training invite but I didn't. They actually sent me back to AA to start 2015 even though I was a 71 overall and Jhonny Peralta was only a 74. I thought at the very least I'd just be back in AAA, if not the majors but for some reason I got sent down to AA

Anyways, about a month into the 2015 season St. Louis abruptly traded my SS to the White Sox. So yeah...not sure why I got sent down, or traded for that matter. But I'm now in the white sox organization at double A trying to climb the ranks again. Maybe because of an aging Alexei Ramirez I'll get a call to the show straight from double A. Just thought I'd share my story.

Had a solid no hitter going through the 6th inning, only to be broken by the opposing pitcher! >.< I know it was still early...but the freaking pitcher had to be the one to get the first hit. Lol

Man that was a pitcher's duel. Going into the 8th 0-0 with 2 hits for each team. First at bat in the 8th the 2B couldn't field an easy grounder allowing the batter to get to 1st base, which in turn caused the skipper to pull me, even though my pitch count was only in the 70s in the 8th! Nonetheless we ended up winning 1-0 in extra innings which was good.

My 2nd baseman, Brandon Foreman, Didn't do too hot in the show case the first time around. Got drafted in the 4th round by the Orioles. Went back for year got drafted first round to the Twins with an A potential.

From Double-A I got the call straight to the Twins in late May.

                      Double-A Stats at time of call-up: .372 avg (81 for 218), 10 HR, 49 RBI, 12 SB, 31 Runs

Wasn't doing too hot in the Majors when a Should've-been routine ground ball popped up and hit me in the head giving me a concussion. Spent 15 days on the DL, and they optioned me to Triple-A upon my return.

MLB Stats at time of demotion: .152 avg (15 for 99), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 SB, 5 Runs

I'm now 3 games into my season with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. Hoping to earn my way back onto the Twins roster asap. Though i did deserve to be demoted.

Finally made it to Free Agency with my White Sox RF.

After playing 7 years (they called me up in early May so that first year doesn't count as a full in service year) in Chicago, I have risen to the glorious 99 overall and have moved my potential from a D to an F and all the way up to a B from there. I've been averaging 25 HR, 90 RBI, and 88 Runs with a .274 average. I've won a Gold Glove in RF, been to the All-Star game twice and been an All-Star Game MVP.

In my 7 years in Chicago, we made the playoffs four times. Twice as a Wildcard and twice as the AL Central Champions. We never made it out of the ALDS. The state of the team upon my decision to decline a qualifying offer was a roster featuring all of three players rated 80 or higher.

In Free Agency I took a look at a few teams' rosters and decided I wanted to win championships and the best options were the Dodgers (they have gone to the WS 5 times in my RTTS), Cardinals, or the Nationals. (Side bar; Mike Trout has regressed at age 28 to a 76 overall! Like what happened?!?!)

Sadly, non of those teams approached me. However, an interesting offer came up from the New York Yankees; they offered 5 years for a total of $122,000,000. I thought, "Why not? If the Bankees want to throw money at me that's fine. If they agree to a ridiculous contract I will sign, it is the Yankees after all - that's a lot of prestige."

So I counter with 10yr/$285,000,000. They counter with 6yr/$150,000,000.

Then I offer 10yr/$265,000,000. They counter with...

I'm in September in my new RTTS center fielder. I was drafted 12th by the giants. I built my guy starting as a power and speed guy with low contact (which I've been building up). Here is what has gone on with me so far...

                            AA - 37 games .. .267 7 homers 27 RBI 14SB
                            AAA - 21 games .. .241 with 4 homers 13 RBI 4SB
                            Majors - 33 games .. .289 average 4 homers (11 hits?!) 9rbi with 12 steals

In the majors I am unfortunately playing the pinch hitter/runner roll and I can't get out of it essentially wasting my rookie year. In 33 games I have only 38 at bats lol.

Nothing worse than loading a game to pinch run for 30 seconds lol ...

Last nighst RTTS session was good. My White Sox first baseman was relegated to DH when the MLB backup 1B was demoted. So after doing the DH thing for a week or two, and missing the fielding points, I asked for a trade.

A week or two after that I was traded to the Giants.

Dynamic Difficulty bumped me up to Hall of Fame

I made the Triple A All-Star team as the starting DH in spite of the fact that my first 150 at bats or so were in Double A. I had 2 doubles and drove in the winning run in a close 2-1 game.

Just before the end of the night I had my first 2 HR game. The first came in the first inning and the second came in the 9th and gave me my walk-off trophy!

I swear it did at one point. Maybe it was many years ago, before they implemented all the real-life arbitration rules (which if memory serves was only around 2011 or 2012), but I remember specifically one year after my first year, I neglected to sign the offer my team gave me, and eventually I got 2 offers from other teams, for much lower salaries. It was quite a few years ago, though. So no longer applicable.
