Two months ago Jeff Chapman, a.k.a. The Quarter-of-a-Billion Dollar Man, hustled to score on the final out of a game in Cincinnati. On that play he came up limping. The diagnosis? A torn hamstring. He was placed on the 60-day DL.
In those 60 days, the Yankees went 27-31. New York floundered heavily. Even Chapman's partner-in-crime Max Muncy struggled, dropping from his high average of .320 to .274 in the two months.
Meanwhile, Chapman spent his time off the field in New York getting his pictures in the paper for the wrong reasons. The Yankee RF was allegedly part of a late night brawl at a club and was even landing in headlines for being romantically involved with celebrities like Kate Upton (tough luck Verlander). Apparently he wasn't ready for the limelight of New York after spending 7 seasons in Chicago with the White Sox.
However his time expired on the DL and Chapman was reinstated on July 1st. In his first AB back from injury, Chapman took the Cubs pitcher deep and notched his 5th HR of the season and knocked in his 16th and 17th RBI's. Chapman also managed to get on base two more times but it wasn't enough to beat the Cubs who won 7-3. But the Yankees' fortunes should be turning around now, here's to the second half.
