But as you said, being a good hitter will help you do better in the showcase, get a higher potential, and potentially earn more points. But don't overlook the value of baserunning and fielding. So many people seem to skip baserunning/fielding, and they miss out on a lot of points.

If you sim hitting, you get half the amount of points you would have earned if you do the same thing. If you sim baserunning or fielding, you get zero points. You're potentially giving up a ton of points per game simming running and/or fielding.

As an example: If you get on first, stealing second will be worth 13-16 training points (5 points for taking 2nd, 1-4 points for jump (poor, ok, good, great), and 7 points for moving into scoring position). You get 3 points for scoring a run, 6 for scoring a tying or go-ahead run, and bonus points for tagging up, or advancing on a ball in the dirt.

Fielding is basically a guaranteed extra 5-10 points per chance. Outs are 5 points each, and if you fielded the ball, you get between -2 and 3 extra points for your reaction. As a SS, your average ground ball is up to 8 points, double plays where you cover 2nd are 10 points, double plays you field and take to 2nd yourself are up to 13 points.

In my opinion, compared to hitting, which is worth between 0 and 40 points per at bat depending on the outcome, fielding and baserunning are more consistent.
Very interesting perspective and points! Sounds like the game then accounts for my strategy by making it more costly in terms of points to build the things you neglect if you load up on hitting then?

So what do you recommend as the best way to allocate the 5 points if you want to the best chance of building a first-rate major league player?

How do you get out of the Join Game option? I'm talking about how you can hit Triangle while it is simming to have you watch it live from the field (and still play your part) instead of from the sim screen.

I can hit Triangle and enter the game (although sometimes it doesn't seem to work?). But then I couldn't figure out how to exit that mode and go back to the sim mode. Is that possible? I hope so because it is great to join at clutch moments but I also then don't want to be stuck for the rest of the game in that mode.

It sucks to be an member of the Astro organization. I am the leader in batting avg , HR and RBI and our pitching staff can't hold a lead for sh*t. Even thought I managed to have 4 RBI in a game, we often lose by double the amount. 4 more years left on my contract...this is painful

Has anyne actully gone to Free agency and was made multiple offers by differnt teams? Ive been in Houston for 3 years and im not a terrible hitter but I cant get anything in offseason accept Houston. Maybe I need to ask for a trade???

Either way i just made a second RTS player . A starting pitcher who went late 3rd round to the Twins

I did a sim through to FA and had a bunch of offers from many teams. Must of been 10 or 12 offers probably in a 3-4 week period it was really cool to see that many and some offers I rejected early the same team came back weeks later with alot better offer. Hope is there.

Finally got my feet under me in AA and tore it up for 2 months. My potential then changed to C and my career trajectory became future big leaguer.

The Twins called me up during the first week of June. No AAA. I have been in a slump since I got to the bigs and have hovered around .200 hitting leadoff and 9th. I never had to come off the bench. They just handed me the starting position. My adjusted overall continues to fall while the AAA 2B is starting to pick it up. I better get out of my slump soon or I’ll be back in the minors.

I’m really loving RTTS this year without the advancement goals.
Oh, so your potential can change? That's good news. I'm also a D potential, but I'm 80 overall and crushing AAA pitching and still no call up or potential change. I'm nearly to the end of the first season, I'm hitting .400 with 17hr and 35sb and still no call up....hoping to be assigned to the 40man during the upcoming offseason. Hopefully my potential will receive a bump as well!

Wow, you have better numbers than I did when mine changed. Hopefully you get the call up because that is criminal to keep you down there when you are doing that!

It most definitely can change. I noticed mine changed to C when I got to about 73 OVR. I went to the player comparison screen after a game it was different. I will be interested to see if it changes again once I get into the 80's.

That's because you weren't really a free agent. The Astros control your rights for 6 major league seasons. The contract they offered you was the only contract available to you. If you turn it down, they can just renew your contract for, I believe, 90% of your previous years salary. They don't HAVE to offer you any raises or anything. After 3 years of service time you get salary arbitration, but the team still controls you, unless they choose to not offer you arbitration, in which case you would become a free agent.

Go to your player card and look where it says "MLB Service Time." Take that number and subtract it from 6. That's how long you have left before you can actually be a free agent lol.

I believe that is overall rating. I assume you're in AA with those numbers; that's what I, too, am seeing in AA. Most guys are in the 50s and 60s. I know it's not durability cause the value is different than my durability.

Right after I made the post I played the final 3 games of the minor league season, and after that I got the call up! But my potential has remained a D unfortunately.

My 5 tool RF is in AAA in 2015 hitting around .300 with 10 home runs getting close to the AS break. He's a 70 overall now so hopefully he gets called up soon. My SP I just created is surprisingly doing really well. First start he pitched 8.2 innings with 10 Ks, 4 Hs, and 2 ERs. The problem is I was out of energy by the 8th and my manager kept me in and that's where 2 of the hits and the two runs came from other wise I would have had only 2 hits and no runs. That pissed me off that I was taken out for the ninth but pitching is surprisingly easier for me and a lot more fun this year. This will probably be the first year I actually do a couple seasons of a pitcher.

Created a SS and got drafted in the late 2nd round, so I decided to go back to a 4 year college. I then got drafted in the 1st round by the Nationals. Played a couple months in AA and got injured for about 3 months. Came back and there was injury on the AAA team and I got called up there. I started slow but ended on a tear and batted over .300 for my time in AAA and we lost in the division championship.

2nd year I started in AA and that's still where I am about 1 month in. I'm batting around .295 and I have 4 or 5 HR's and around 18 RBI. I hit in the 3rd spot and I think I'm the #1 prospect in the Nationals organization. However this is my first "The Show" game I've played, so I haven't really figured out exactly what I need to be doing or looking at as far as my future is concerned. Right now I'm just having fun playing my games. My team is like 14-2 on the year in AA.
