Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Couple things:
How are you keeping your franchise fresh? I'm about a month in and am getting the itch to start a new one. This happens every year and I struggle with keeping the same one.
To those who like to mimic real life roster movement, what are your plans consider the new save migration feature for next year? Will you be starting new next year? Will you be keeping this one and just editing rosters in the off-season?
Lots of help here if you want to move some players.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Since this year has a save migration feature,,the franchise always feels fresh to me. Just use the boards here for fair trades, and not worry so much about real life roster movement. There will be a point in franchise where you past where current MLB season is etc.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
So just have fun and play the game and finally experience how drafting and trading will impact your organization without having to worry about starting all over in next years installment.5Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
After missing out on Hanley, I was able to land Chase Headley and Jed Lowrie.
Spoiler
Yankees to Sign Chase Headley, Jed Lowrie
By: Jack Ross|ESPNNewYork.com [January 6, 2015 at 1:08 pm CDT]
It did not take long for the Yankees to move on from missing out on Hanley Ramirez. Just 24 hours in fact. The Yankees have officially announced the signing of Chase Headley and Jed Lowrie. Lowrie's contract is reportedly worth $48MM over 4 years, while Headley's contract is reportedly worth $90MM over 5 years.
Headley (pictured) had many suitors to choose from, including the Brewers, Red Sox, and Angels. In an interview, Headley told reporters that the Yankees were the most aggressive and that he was excited to play for a potential contender. Headley will take over at third base moving Avisail Garcia to his natural position in right field. Meanwhile, Jed Lowrie (also pictured) who was coming off a down year will hope that a change of scenery helps his cause. Surprisingly, Lowrie did not receive many offers this offseason. GM Brian Cashman told reporters that Lowrie is "criminally undervalued and underrated". Lowrie will take over at second base for the foreseeable future. With the infield of the Yankees occupied by Teixeira, Lowrie, Baez, and Headley, GM Brian Cashman stated that he will look to further improve the ballclub via trade, if the right opportunity is out there.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Just went 1-3 vs Texas in the 4-game series. I'm now 42-46 and 3.0 GB in the WC race and 13.0 GB in the ALW.
I'm hitting .249 (18th) with 93 HR (12th) 368 RBI (11th) & 39 SB (18th)
Pitching: ERA is 4.44 (27th) 704 K's (11th) 410 Runs allowed (25th) 90 HR (19th)
I don't think I'm going to be in the buyer's market. We'll have to see how the next 10 games go and if I am still somewhat in it.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Offseason in review.
Spoiler
Offseason In Review: New York Yankees
By: Shawn Matheson|ESPNNewYork.com [March 8, 2015 at 3:34 pm CDT]
The Yankees invested in the FA market to improve the holes in their infield. GM Brian Cashman expects Chase Headley and Jed Lowrie to thrive in Yankee Stadium. Meanwhile, Max Scherzer will join the Yankees Rotation making it one of the best in baseball. Yankees fans are excited about the upcoming season. GM Brian Cashman should be applauded for improving the ballclub without sacrificing much in the way of prospects.
Major League Signings
Max Scherzer, RHP: Five years, $110MM. $20MM Player option for 2020.
Chase Headley, 3B: Five years, $90MM.
Jed Lowrie, 2B: Four years, $48MM. $15MM vesting option for 2019.
Jason Hammel, RHP: Two years, $16MM.
Brendan Ryan, SS: One year, $11.7MM.
Trades and Claims
Acquired SS Didi Gregorius from the Diamondbacks in exchange for C John Ryan Murphy
Notable Losses
Ichiro Suzuki, Derek Jeter, Hiroki Kuroda, Brian Roberts, Alfonso Soriano.
Needs Addressed
After winning the World Series in 2014, the Yankees needed to upgrade their rotation after the retirement of Hiroki Kuroda. GM Brian Cashman did just that by signing the top free agent starter, Max Scherzer to a five-year deal. Scherzer emerged as the ace of the Tigers rotation as Verlander began to show signs of decline. He followed up his Cy Young award winning 2013 season with another great campaign in 2014 by posting a 15-9 record with a 3.10 ERA and 204 Strikeouts. Manager Joe Girardi told reporters that he expects Scherzer to be the number 2 starter in the Yankees Rotation.
The other greatest need addressed for the Yankees was their infield. The Yankees were not able to land the premier position playing free agent in Hanley Ramirez, however, the Yankees were able to land Chase Headley and Jed Lowrie. Lowrie and Headley are immediate upgrade of the combination of Brian Roberts and Avisail Garcia at second and third base. While Garcia provided solid contributions on offense, he had no business at 3rd base in 2014. The Yankees are hoping that Yankee Stadium plays well to the swings of Headley and Lowrie, both of whom contributed 20 home runs to their former ballclubs in 2013.
Questions Remaining
The only question that remains for the Yankees is the depth of the farm system. By trading away most of their talent in 2014 and not having the greatest of drafts, the MLB roster will need to remain healthy over the next few years and Cashman and the Steinbrenner's look for ways to develop the prospects they have now and will draft in 2015.
Overview
The Yankees have done enough to improve their ballclub in the short term, however, by trading away nearly all of their outfield talent in 2014, Ellsbury, Garcia, and Gardner must continue to provide value for the Yankees as there are not fallback options. With their competitors in the AL East making very little moves in the offseason, the Yankees are the favorites to win the AL East. Our experts have picked the Blue Jays to finish in second and the Red Sox, Orioles, and Rays to follow in that order.
GM Brian Cashman was under the microscope in 2014, for the nearly half a billion dollars that was committed to free agents. His team responded by winning it all in 2014. Going forward the Yankee faithful will need to put more trust in their organization.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
I restarted my Cubs franchise with 30 team control on. First series against the Pirates had a little bit of everything.
Game 1 Blowout: Jeff Samardzija went the distance striking out 9 as the Cubs crushed the Pirates 9-0
Cubs 9 Pit 0
Game 2 Almost a comeback: Game 2 saw the Cubs struggling to get any runs as the Pirates took a 4-1 lead into the 9th, after a Rizzo walk Mike Olt hit his first MLB HR to pull the Cubs to within 1 and that was how the game would end.
Pit 4 Cubs 3
Game 3 OH NO! The Cubs got out early in this one as Starlin Castro hit his first HR of the season, a 2 run shot in the 1st inning and the Cubs were off and running. After building a 5-1 lead the Pirates cut it to 5-3 going into the 9th where the Cubs bullpen imploded allowing the Bucs to tie the game and force extra innings. The Pirates ended it in the 10th on a Starling Marte solo Hr.
Pit 6 Cubs 5 (10 innings)
Don't know if i can take 162 games like these! lol!Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
It's finally opening day in the Bronx. The start of the 2015 season begins.
Series Recap below:
Spoiler
Yankees' newcomers Max Scherzer and Chase Headley pace Yankees as they take 3 games out of 4 in Season Opening Series
Game 1: The Yankees beat up David Price in Opening Day win
Yankees 9, Tigers 5
The Yankee lineup proved how powerful they can be as they knock around David Price for 5 runs in 5 innings. Jed Lowrie and Carlos Beltran each went deep on opening day. Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka pitched 7 innings giving up 3 runs in the process. After the game, Manager Joe Girardi said, "This is the kind of team that can go out and score in bunches. The blend of speed at the top, power in the middle and youth at the bottom of the lineup can be problematic for some opposing teams. This type of performance of one of the top lefty's in the game has to be inspiring for our guys."
Game 2: Max Effort: Max Scherzer throttles Rays' in Yankees Debut
The Yankees committed $110MM to their #2 starter Max Scherzer in the offseason. In his first game as a Yankee he showed the Yankees exactly what they were looking for. Scherzer was dominant throughout the entire game, leaving the Rays hitters asking themselves if they have holes in their bats.
The only Rays hitter who seemed to have a normal bat was Desmond Jennings, who went 2-2 against Scherzer with 2 home runs and 2 walks. After the game, Scherzer told reporters that he'll have to get used to the types of home runs the new Yankee Stadium will yield. He also added that "those paint scrapers" would've been F-7's and F-9's at Comerica Park.
Meanwhile, the Yankees offense continued their hot start as they pushed across 17 runs. Rays starter Matt Moore did not have his greatest stuff from the start as the Yankees put on a 5 spot against him. The Yankees incumbent third baseman Chase Headley provided all the offense that Scherzer need with a 2 Home Run game. That was enough to take player of the game honors away from Scherzer. After the game, Manager Joe Girardi joked by saying, "You know, if we can go out there and put up 17 runs a game this season, I think we'll be okay. If only we could've saved about 10 of those runs for tomorrorw's game just to give our guys a chance to relax."
Game 3: Walk This Way: After demonstrating patience against Lee, Rays Re-Joyce
Cliff Lee worked hard through 6 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits and striking out three. However, he ran into trouble in the 6th as the Rays demonstrated patience at the plate as the first two batters drew walks. After a strike out of Wil Myers and a walk to Longoria, the bases were loaded for James Loney. Loney was able to scratch across one run via a sac fly. The runners were able to safely advance on a fielder's choice to 1B.
That brought up Yankee-killer Matt Joyce who did it again. A soft ground ball up the middle that scored two and gave the Rays a 1-run lead. Joyce promptly scored on a well placed double in the left-center gap by Aaron Hill giving the Rays a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th.
Brian McCann homered to lead off the 7th to pull the Yankees within one run. In the 9th inning, Grant Balfour walked Brian McCann with two outs. McCann was lifted for a pinch runner in Brendan Ryan, who subsequently stole second base. At the plate was Avisail Garcia. Unfortunately for the Yankees, Garcia swung at ball 4 and hit a groundball to third to end the game.
After the game, Cliff Lee said that the loss falls on him as he got complacent in the 7th inning. David Phelps pitched 2 stellar innings out of relief giving up 1 hit and striking out three.
Game 4: This game was simulated: Ivan Nova wins in his return to the Yankees: Yankees 3, Rays 1

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Starting up a new franchise, debated on whether or not to start a fantasy draft one. The biggest con to that would've been no 30 team control. So I decided to find a loophole around that and did a semi fantasy draft, but not really. Every draft if you're positioned correctly you can get Bryce + Trout. So that's what I did, blew up my team for those two guys (Kept Tanaka). Here's the final product, a bunch of 36+ players and virtually no prospects. So basically the Yankees but only with 2 good young superstars and a Japanese Ace. I'll be playing every game from the Majors to AA (on quick counts). I'll keep you guys posted, here are some details on this team
Opening day team
Lineup (some changes RHP v LHP but not many)
SS Derek Jeter (kept him for obvious reasons)
RF Ichiro (same with DJ also final season)
CF Mike Trout
RF Bryce Harper
DH A-Rod (will be alternating with Yargevis, 3 years for 9 million each suck. He will be retiring in pinstripes.)
1B Raul Ibañez (Sad, I know)
3B Hiroyuki Nakajima
C Cervelli
2B Soriano (a bunch of out of position players, here's another)
Bench 4 hitters
RF Vernon Wells (Ouch)
LF Juan Pierre
3B Solarte
C Wil Nieves (Beat out Murphy and Romine in spring for the backup job. Murphy starts out in AA but will surely be in the majors come July/August)
Starting Rotation + Bullpen
1.Masahiro Tanaka (Not only my ace but my only real threat at pitching)
2.David Phelps
3.Freddy Garcia (He has a Yankee pic!)
4.Barry Zito (Things begin to get weird here)
5.Donthrelle Willis (Who remembers the D-Train?)
Pen
MRP Matt Thornton, Preston Claiborne, Sean Burnett, Adam Warren
SU Jose Contreras, Andrew Bailey
CP Dellin Betances
Sadly I don't have enough to even acquire a better pitcher to help out Tanaka, would have to rely on Phelps and a bunch of old guys. Don't really want to move Clarkin or Severino, can probably get a decent 4-5 guy for some other guys. Maybe a #3 to be my #2.
Top 10 prospects:
1.SP Ian Clarkin 19 yrs 55 ovr B POT
2.SP Luis Severino 20 yrs 55 ovr B POT
3.RP Brett Gerritse 23 yrs 55 ovr C POT
4.RP Chase Whitley 24 yrs 57 ovr C POT
5.RP Mark Montgomery 23 yrs 56 ovr C POT
6.CP Dellin Betances 25 yrs 54 ovr C POT
7.RF Aaron Judge 22 yrs 56 ovr C POT
8.2B Gosuke Katoh 19 yrs 57 ovr C POT
9.3B Eric Jagielo 21 yrs 55 ovr C POT
10.1B Greg Bird 21 yrs 59 ovr C POT
Gary Sanchez who would've been #1 was moved to the Cubs. Some other changes I made to cancel out the losses of Trout/Harper (or attempt to cancel them out)
Angels got: RF Carlos Beltran, CF Jacoby Ellsbury, CP David Robertson, C Brian McCann, SP CC Sabathia, SP Jeff Samardzija, SS Starlin Castro, SP Michael Feliz (20 65 B, was in the FA), RF Justin Higley (21 65 B, FA), SP Chris Kohler (18 58 B, FA), CP Julio Ruiz (19 56 B, FA), SP Askeem Bostick (18 54 B, FA), LF Justin Williams (18 54 B, FA), SP Tommy Florival (21 51 A, FA), SP Juan Guzman (19 50 B, FA), SP William Mantle (24 47 A, FA), RP Bernard Murillo (21 47 A, FA)
Nats got 1B Mark Teixeira, SP Hiroki Kuroda, CF Brett Gardner, SP Andres Portillo (25 52 B, FA), CP Franz Borowitz (23 57 B, FA), RF Alex Rios, CF Michael de la Cruz (18 50 B, FA), SP Dustin Driver (19 56 B, FA), RP Stefan Diaz (22 43 B, FA), SP Matt Smoral (20 50 B, FA), SP Alonso Mora (18 48 B, FA)
Cubs got SP Michael Pineda, C Gary Sanchez, SP Ivan Nova, SP Bryan Mitchell (23 66 B, NYY), 2B Corban Joseph (25 57 B, NYY), SP Garett Richards, SP Blake Taylor (18 52 C, FA) + more.
Making the playoffs will be tough as I might have to out score my opponent every night with this team. Going forward there will be a bunch of new faces as DJ + Ichiro retire after year 1. Sori's contract runs out. Only guys under contract for next year are A-Rod (9 mil), Trout (2 mil), Harper (2 mil) and Wells (1.4 mil). Some names in the minors are over the hill players such as:
SP Aceves, SS Ryan, SS Izturis, SP LeBlanc, CF Torres, LF Bay, CF Wise, 1B Peña, RP Gregg, 3B Stewart, 1B Hawpe, RP Myers, 1B Kotchman, 3B DeWitt, SS Burriss.Comment

SS Derek Jeter (kept him for obvious reasons)
RF Ichiro (same with DJ also final season)

RF Bryce Harper
DH A-Rod (will be alternating with Yargevis, 3 years for 9 million each suck. He will be retiring in pinstripes.)

C Cervelli
2B Soriano (a bunch of out of position players, here's another)
Bench 4 hitters

Starting Rotation + Bullpen
1.Masahiro Tanaka (Not only my ace but my only real threat at pitching)
2.David Phelps

Pen
MRP Matt Thornton, Preston Claiborne, Sean Burnett, Adam Warren

Making the playoffs will be tough as I might have to out score my opponent every night with this team.Going forward there will be a bunch of new faces as DJ + Ichiro retire after year 1. Sori's contract runs out. Only guys under contract for next year are A-Rod (9 mil), Trout (2 mil), Harper (2 mil) and Wells (1.4 mil). Some names in the minors are over the hill players such as:
SP Aceves, SS Ryan, SS Izturis, SP LeBlanc, CF Torres, LF Bay, CF Wise, 1B Peña, RP Gregg, 3B Stewart, 1B Hawpe, RP Myers, 1B Kotchman, 3B DeWitt, SS Burriss.Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer
