Doing a new 'chise with the Cubs, looking good in the 2nd season so far. Might detail it later but I have to say Anthony Rizzo has one of the sweetest swings out of the guys I've batted with. I can rely on him for homers all the time, he has great power.

In this years game i have now made the playoffs 4 times. All 4 times i have lost in the ALDS. I suck.

We lost game 1 2-0. Brandon Morrow shut us down.

We won game 2 10-4. Drew Hutchison gave up 7 in 2.1 innings. They brought Dickey in for long relief and he gave up 3 in 2.2 innings.

We lost game 3 5-2. Melky Cabrera hit a walkoff 3 run HR in the bottom of the 13th.

We lost game 4 1-2. We were able to keep Encarnacion quite the first 3 games. he was 3 for 13 with just 1 RBI. But he finally got the best of us hitting a go ahead HR. Their BP shut us down form there.

We held Bautista and Encarnacion to 8-29 with 4 RBI. I would take that over any 4 game series. We just didnt have the offense to keep up with their other 7 guys.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Won Game 3 of the NLDS vs the Padres 3-2. Trailed in the 9th 2-1 and tied the game up vs Street after Yadier lead off with a double. Matt Adams hit a ground ball deep in the hole between 1st and 2nd that allowed Yadier to get to third. Perralta came up and darn near won the game then with a double off the left field wall. I then brought in Grichuk to pinch hit for Mark Ellis. Grichuk belted one that carried and Maybin couldn't get to but Perralta had to be held at 3rd. So with one out I had men on 2nd and 3rd. Padres brought in Tyler Clippard and I brought in Bourjos to pinch hit for the pitcher. Bourjos proceeds to take a 2-2 pitch and smack a lazy fly ball in the right center gap that Venable ran down, but it was deep enough for Perralta to score the winning run.

Game 4 coming up. Think I'm putting Waino back out there to clinch this thing at home.

        Other series:

Orioles won their series with the Tigers in 4 games to advance to the ALCS.

Angels won their series with the A's in 4 games to advance to the ALCS.

Nationals are up 2-1 against the Dodgers.

After losing the ALDS we went and got almost a whole new coaching staff. Only person we kept was Dave Eiland and he was moved to third base coach.

We offered Billy Butler and James Shields qualifying offers. Both chose not to sign it. Billy went to Washington on a 3 year 30 million dollar deal. Shields went back to the east and sign with Baltimore on a 5 year 45.3 million dollar deal. We declined the option we gave Polanco and let Juan Pierre go as well. I accidentally offered Bruce Chen a qualifying offer. He gladly accepted that for 10.4 million.

We signed Jonny Gomes to provide some power. He wont start much vs righties but should play every time we face a lefty. We also got Ervin Santana to replace Shields. Ryan Hanigan replaces Brett Hayes as the back up catcher.

Spring training had 5 way battle for the 5th starter and long reliever. Bruce Chen played like crap and i happily ate the 8 million it took to cut him. Jeremy Guthrie played pretty bad and was sent to AAA. Justin Marks pitched very well. But decided to go with Duffy and Aaron Brooks. Duffy is the long reliever and Brooks will be the 5th starter.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

When I first got the game I began a franchise with the New York Yankees. However, after a handful of games, I didn't like the fact that I was winning so easily. I've run with the Yankees in pretty much every baseball game that I've ever played, but I figured I'd go in a different direction this time around. So after a bit of indecision, I decided to start over using the Tampa Bay Rays.

All I can say about the season up to this point is that it's been a struggle. With the exception of a few games, we haven't been generating very much offense. Even in the games we manage to get a lot of hits, it hasn't necessarily meant that we were scoring a lot of runs too. Because of this, we currently sit at 8-16 and are on a four game losing streak. My hope is that we can end April on a positive note and begin to turn this thing around.

Evan Longoria and Wil Myers are both non-existent in my Rays franchise. Both players batting under .200. Just can't get anything going with them at all.

Longoria is around .180 something with 9 home runs and about 30 RBI at the beginning of June.

Myers is around .175 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI at the beginning of June.

Ben Zobrist and Andre Ethier have been the best position players for the Rays for me. Both batting over .300.

If the Rays are rated like they were last year (especially if you're using OSFM v2), then expect those bouts of "we don't like runs."

I don't know if their clutch ratings just disappear on them or what, but I remember suffering through what you're going through. Thankfully, the Rays pitch decently.

As long as they are getting hits, they'll stave off getting cold as well. Timing and chance have as much to do with RBIs as hitting well in general - so it should turnaround for you unless they do start going cold completely.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Cardinals season has come to a close as we lost to the Padres in the NLDS in 5 Games. I was up 2-1 but we failed to win one of the final two games. Holliday, Craig, and Molina really let us down in this series. They combined for a total of 6 hits between them. Matt Adams, Johnny Peralta, and Randal Grichuk were the stars.

Our pitching wasn't bad at all, but we just couldn't get a key hit when we needed it, and when we hit the ball hard, it was right at someone. Just the way it goes.

                    Playoffs breakdown:

                    NLDS:

Padres defeated the Cardinals in 5 Games
Nationals defeated the Dodgers in 4 Games

                    NLCS:

Padres defeated the Nationals in 7 Games

                    ALDS:

Orioles defeated the Tigers in 4 Games
Angels defeated the A's in 4 Games

                    ALCS:

Orioles defeated the Angels in 7 Games

                    World Series:

Orioles defeated the Padres in 7 Games

Thats right, the Baltimore Orioles are your 2014 World Series Champions!

It was definitely an interesting playoffs despite my early exit.

                    ---

My focus will now turn to the offseason as I determine what I need to do to get back to the World Series. Lot of big decisions ahead, with so much young talent.

Will Myers isn't exactly lighting it up for me, but he has the most RBI on the team, so he's good for something.

Longoria has been hurt for half of my games, but when he was playing he was stinking up the joint. His batting average is .118. I don't even know if I want him back in the lineup when he comes off the DL, lol.

I sure hope that you're right. I'm starting to get frustrated at this point and losing a bit of the patience at the plate that I had at the beginning of the season because I'm trying to make something happen so badly. I just dropped another one, so that's five losses in a row and 1-8 in my last 9. With that being said, this game still very addicting, lol.

Also, I'm using one of the more recent default roster updates. I didn't go with OSFM v.2.

                        Marlins Franchise

Slight improve after the all-star break with a 3-2 start to the second half, taking two from three against the Giants and a split in the first two of a four game set against a dominant Braves team makes for positive reading.

This moves the record to 45-55 but little progress has been made on the division leading Mets who still look strong for a surprise postseason appearance, recent offense is mainly down to Garrett Jones who has hit 3 HR's in 5 games including a walk-off three run shot against Romo. Rumours of Jones being moved by the Marlins is looking more likely as several teams competing look for an extra bat to help with a postseason push.

                        - Solano returning from the DL has been a bonus for Miami has he looks to claim a second base position wide open with the current lack of run producing from other options.

                        - Andrew Heaney was able to produce another good start as he went 7 allowing 1 earned run with 5 K's, unfortunately he still picked up the loss as Miami produced no run support as Tim Lincecum dealt a CG 5 Hit Shutout to end the hopes of a 3 game sweep.

Due to me being on vacation for the last two weeks, I'm fast forwarding my franchise progress a bit. I've gone 26-11 in my past 37 games. Overall I'm 39-17 up 6 games on the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East race. Here are some photos of the past games i've played.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins picked up LF/IF Dayan Viciedo from the White Sox for a trio of young prospects, all with upside but also some warts.

The Marlins dealt Brad Hand, who's avoided hits but is prone to just outright losing location, hard-throwing Ryan Newell, who features a strong fastball, but needs work on his command, and CF Kolby Copeland, a 20-year-old CF looking to make it on batting average and defense.

Hand was placed on the White Sox's active roster with Newell looking to make it sooner-than-later for the White Sox. He goes from overshadowed to someone who may be looked at to make an impact in a few years. Copeland also landed in AAA, but that might be a stretch.

The player the Marlins get in return also has some warts and some upside. Viciedo is noted for killing left-handed pitching, something that his continued this year with a .403 BA against southpaws. However, he's equally noted for struggling against right-handers, which is also playing out with a .229 batting average against RHP.

If Viciedo can figure out how to hit lefties, he could be a threat at the plate. He'll be ugly in the field, especially since the Marlins will actually try him at 3B because of his arm and the fact the OF is filled, but if that doesn't work, 1B is also open.

While .229 is not impressive, it's hard to think that's his true ability. Or perhaps seeing Hechavarria with 8 home runs...somehow...has messed with everyone's minds.

Because how the heck does Hechavarria hit 8 home runs before the All-Star Break?

SP Brian Flynn will get another shot in the rotation, filling the empty slot left by Hand's departure.

IF Derek Dietrich was optioned to AAA. SP Angel Sanchez was promoted and will occupy the long relief spot Flynn was holding.

I played the season finale at Boston, as we were one game back for the final wild card spot, tied with the LA Angles. I won 6-1 thanks to a great pitching performance by Michael Pineda. The Angels lost their finale to the Mariners. Yet, the Yankees and Angels are tied for the final wild card spot, so they will face in a game to determine who gets the spot.

For my crucial home night game with the Angels, CC Sabathia will get the start; he's 16-10 with a 4.22 ERA, 181 K's and a 1.33 WHIP. For the Angels, Tyler Skaggs will start; he's 14-10 with a 4.52 ERA, 164 K's and a 1.41 WHIP.

I won the game 6-3! After the fifth inning I simmed the innings where the Yankees were at bat. David Robertson got his 54th save (he's the Delivery Man of the Year) and Tanaka won AL Rookie of the Year. I face the division rival Rays in the Wild Card Round.

                              Playoffs:

                              Yankees v Rays

                              Oakland A's vs. Red Sox

Detroit Tigers vs winner of Yankees/Rays

                              NL:

                              Wildcard: Dodgers v. Nationals

                              Pirates vs. Cardinals

Braves vs. winner of Dodgers vs. Nationals.
I beat the Rays 4-3 in nine innings. I put in David Robertson for the save, but a ball hit him in the leg so he had to be replaced. I've never been so nervous, lol. I was up 4-3, in the bottom of the ninth, and I had to bring in a cold pitcher. The guy allowed to hits then got two outs. Final out was a full 3-2 count, and then he threw a strike, game over. The Yankees face the Tigers in the ALDS.

                              ALDS:

                              Red Sox vs. Athletics

                              Tigers vs Yankees

                              NLDS

                              Pirates vs. Cardinals

                              Braves vs Nationals

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I started a franchise with my home town team... Toronto.

My lineup after 2 seasons is as follows:
                                1. CF Mike Trout
                                2. LF Melky Cabrera
                                3. DH Mike Napoli
                                4. 1B Jose Abreu
                                5. RF. Nick Markakis
                                6. 3B Brett Lawrie
                                7. 2B Jose Altuve
                                8. SS Jed Lowrie
                                9. C Dioner Navarro

                                My rotation is:
                                1. Kris Medlen
                                2. Sonny Grey
                                3. CJ Wilson
                                4. Ricky Romero
                                5. Marcus Stroman

First season, finished tied for first in AL East with Rays went to one game play-off, lost but managed to get a wild card spot. Beat the Mariners 1-0, then went on to face the Rays, went through all 5 games, winning the final game 8-6, went into ALCS to face the Rangers, I lost in six games the final game being 2-1 (after 13) managed to get a few reputable trades from this season including Markakis, Trout, Lowrie, Altuve, and Medlen and got the rest of these guys in the offseason (all trades except Abreu, who was released by the Withe Sox). The trade logic in this game is inconsistent.
