Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

In 2021 with the Marlins, I have assembled the best team by far in terms of potential. An A potential guy at every position, and aside from Catcher, RP and 3rd I have more than 1. I have 8 A potential Starting Pitchers, 4 B potential Starters. I have 3 A potential closers. Now a lot of it is waiting for these guys to pan out. The last 2 years I've made a lot of trades to get more A/B talent. I only get guys under 20, 21 if good enough, and I sign them to a 10 yr contract very cheap to keep salary down.
However idk why it says my pitching ranks 14th, my starters are 99,98,91,90,88 with 2 starters in pen at 86/84 and relievers at 82,78,77 with a closer at 85, most all have good era's and all starters are young, Jose Fernandez is oldest by 3 years (he's the 98).

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Cardinals are 2-3 to start off the 2015 campaign. It's most certainly early, but the bullpen has been a culprit in 2 of the 3 losses by blowing games in the late innings.

Carlos Martinez gave up a solo homer to Carlos Gomez in the bottom of the 8th inning that broke a 2-2 tie, ultimately leading the Brewers to a 3-2 win.

In the season opener at Busch against the Mets, Rosenthal blew his first save opportunity of the year by giving up 3 runs in the Top of the 9th to lose the game 6-4.

Again, we're only 5 games into the season, but the sore spot from last year's club appears to be showing up in the early part of the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

My pitching staff has been horrible so it makes 8.1 innings off shutout ball by Edison Vasquez that much more enjoyable. Melancon was able to get two outs to complete the shutout of STL 2-0.

Wainwright is now 0-6 for STL!

        I think I'm now 6-2 against STL this season. I'm 17-18 after 35.

My team ERA is like 4.75...

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

After a decent draft and being able to shore up a few weak positions(in the minors....) my New York Mets sit at 5 games over .500 after the All-Star break.
I just lost Bartolo Colon for 1-2 months(and don't have Harvey...I injured him for the season to start the franchise) and while my pitching staff has been stellar for the most part(especially the pen...Valverde and Farnsworth and Rice....excellent)....I think if I'm going to make a run...I'll need an arm.
It will have to be a mid-level low $$$ arm though.

Wheeler sits at 9-1 with a low 2's ERA and is third in the league in K's(behind Strasburg and Kershaw)....my best pitcher.

The offense is mediocre and is led by D. Wright(.295 8 HR 55 RBI) and Lucas Duda(.269 11 HR 49 RBI...he is second in the league in BB's)

Granderson has 14 HR's(.220 BA)...but is second to Pedro Alvarez in the league in K's with 89.....he kills the lineup sometimes.

2 games separate the Mets, Nats and Braves at the top of the N.L. East...so a move for an arm and a bat seems imminent if we're going to stay in it.

The only moves I made so far...
-C SP and C OF for Josh Willingham
-signed Yorvit Torrealba to back up d'Arnaud(platoon really)
-grabbed Paul Maholm from the Dodgers off waivers(when they traded for Lester and got Beckett back from the DL...they sent him down.)

Other than than just some in house organizational moves for injuries and level of play.

Won my first World Series in Franchise with the Marlins in 2021. Led by great pitchers and a young rising team. Kind of surprised since as a team we have a terrible batting avg of .224 despite all these guys with 80+ ratings

I played the first game. Lester had a no hitter through 4. Ended up getting 4 runs in the 5th. And then held on for a 5-4 win.

Nice! 1 down. 2 to go. If it was me playing against Lester, I'd be down 0-1. Fast.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

                      The impossible has happened.

In my franchise I'm going through a tail spin. I'm 3-12 in my last 15 games and the Jays have caught fire to win 12 straight going into my last game. I pitched 10 innings with Tanaka, but wasn't able to do anything against Sinker Baller Told Redmond. He got so lucky every single inning. I hit balls hard but Edwin Encarnacion was ALWAYS there to make a fine play or get in the way of a line shot. In my only good rally in top of the 8th, I hit into a triple play for Christ's sake.

But in the 10th, of course the CPU just had their grounders find holes, and I got back to back 3-0 counts thanks to quick counts. But what really made me mad was the walk off grand slam I gave up to Ryan F'ing Goins. It had to have been the ugliest swing I've seen, but of course it had enough to carry out.

That 10.5 game lead I had in the AL EAST... Its down to 0.5 games now...

                      Sometimes this game... Argh :

Maybe my son and I are far too into the beauty of stats for baseball...here is what we did...we started a 2 owner franchise....(me-Braves and he is Marlins ...we r both Braves fans)...

We conducted a fantasy draft....altered the names of a few unknown players to create both he and I....few other friends, family, NE Patriots, etc....

From there...we do a combo of play and sum until we get to end of each month....once we conclude a month....we pull out the excel spreadsheets I created....they include....typical columns applicable to batting (avg, doubles, triples, Avg vs LHP/ RHP, etc) and pitching ( wins, ERA, Saves, Holds, and my favorite WHIP)....we record stats for MLB, AAA, and AA....
We use those to track month over month performance....then take that data to another spreadsheet for our roster moves/ transactions....(call ups, send downs, etc)

FINALLY, we also have "progress and ratings trackers". We use these to find trends, etc....

For the league we are playing in...we have a final spreadsheet for league leaders in pitching, hitting...for both players and teams...

I just wanted to see if there were others out there or if my son and I (he is 17)...are alone in doing alll of what I just described for a video game...(but damn what a great game it is)...
Anyway...I'd be glad to share my created spreadsheets....or would also enjoy seeing and hearing what others do....

When I had my dynasty here for last year's game, I would put up stat sheets for my team (was the Rays then) at the All-Star Break and End of Season.

Used the traditional stats and some of the more advanced/sabermetric ones.

In addition to being fun (in a baseball seamhead nerdy way), it puts my play and any potential slider adjustments into objective, black-and-white context.

I need to get back into using one sheet someone had to track balls/strikes/swing %.

I technically lost. But rage quit before the last out was finished. All star hitting HoF pitching with TNK sliders. No offense at all in the 15 or so playoff games ive had.
