Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

You don't want us to mention you've only played 8 games? Because I want to let you know you've only played 8 games!

It's your world, do what you want! Are you wanting young guys that can play right away? It's a really unheard of area to trade only 8 games in. Typically trades involve players for prospects and not players for players. I don't know who would give up 3-4 starters on a roster for 1 starter. They'd give up maybe 1 start + prospects.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

      Minnesota Twins 2014 Franchise Season:

Triple AAA ALERT: SP Alex Meyers threw a complete game 3 hitter against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. It was his first win of the year and his record is now 1-2. Fairly good though that he's getting into the swing of things (Player locked the game)

CF Byron Buxton was informed to report to Triple AAA Rochester Red Wings and leave the Fort Myers Miracle. Buxtons first game will be against the Peoria Chiefs on April 17th. (Figure I'll player lock a few games as him and get a feel for him and his at bat's/fielding abilities)

Now onto our regularly scheduled updates:

Game 11: (Played whole way through) Ricky Nolasco was determined NOT to drop to 0-3 on the season. He did fairly well! 7 IP and gave up only 3 hits and 1 run (home run to Alex Gordon) as the Twins beat the Royals on Saturday afternoon 4-1. Willingham hit his 5th homer of the year. Kubel and Dozier added in their own solo shots. Glenn Perkins picked up his 4th save of the year.

Game 12: (Simmed) The Twins collapsed and dropped the game 3-2 to the Royals on Sunday afternoon. Phil Hughes picked up the loss and is now 0-2 on the year. Oswaldo Arcia picked up an RBI and extended his hitting streak.

Game 13: (Simmed) The Blue Jays roll into town for a 3 game set. Mike Pelfrey took a ND and Ryan Pressly picked up his 2nd win out of the bullpen as the Twins eked out a 6-5 win over Toronto. Dozier and Mauer added in their own home runs and powered the offense. Glenn Perkins picked up his 5th save in as many chances.

Game 14: (Played whole thing) The Twins sent workhorse Kevin Correia to the mound against the Blue Jays and Chad Jenkins on Wednesday night. Correia labored through 5 innings throwing almost 100 pitches against one of the strongest lineups in the American League (besides our own....of course). He gave up only two runs, one a solo shot by Jose Reyes to lead off the game. The Twins though responded in deadly fashion. 4 runs over the first two innings! Oswaldo Arcia went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double. Mauer would add his own solo home run in the bottom of the 8th. Anthony Swarzack threw 3 innings of 1 hit ball in relief and Glenn Perkins recorded the last 3 outs in a non-save situation. Twins win the game 7-2.

      Pros:

-Oswaldo Arcia: He's now batting .373 with 6 homers and 13 RBI. He has a 7 game hitting streak in this young season and he seems like he's in one of those rare Tony Gwynn like modes where he is just able to smack anything. That last double he hit came off a sinker ball in the dirt!

-Twins Bullpen: They are just eating innings in relief. They've already chucked 44.2 innings. Most relievers go in and throw multiple innings. Yet collectively they have only given up 2 runs.

-Glenn Perkins: 6 games. 5 save chances/5 saves. 6 strikeouts over 6 innings. 0.00 ERA. He's the second best closer in the AL behind Dave Robertson of the Yankees. Easily an all star.

      Cons:

-Top of the rotation: Nolasco and Hughes are combined 1-4. Nolasco did improve in the last game but still. It is still very early in the year but I can't imagine the Twins maintaing pace with the Royals or White Sox if the top two starters wind up being 2-8 or 3-12 over their next few games.

-Pedro Florimon and Aaron Hicks: Florimon actually improved at the plate since his average is now .178. Hicks continues to slide into oblivion with a 0.72 average. Florimon committed 2 errors in one game. Hicks has been inconsistent in center. Both disappointments.

Who knows - might be the start of a budding storyline or an early slump no one will remember. No one but the RNG and Stanton's future performance knows (I roll my purple 20-sided die every so often to "create" storylines, carry over from what I used to do in my M13 franchise).

If Stanton was to move - it would be for prospects most likely or a young kid-that-could-start-but-still-needs-refinement that could upgrade eventually + prospects. Like you said, no team gonna give 3 starters for one.

Of course, if it is the Stanton + say Conley or dare I deal Michael Feliz (91 POT) + Cishek, I think something would have to include a upgrade now+ or I wouldn't be interested.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The first week of the season was a forgetful one for the Seattle Mariners. After an impressive 9-0 win over the Angels on Opening Day the M's dropped 5 in a row before winning their last game and avoiding a 4-game sweep at the hands of the A's. Here's the week 1 recap:

          Game 1: 9-0 win Robinson Cano 4-5 2 HR 6 RBI, Felix Hernandez 6 IP 3 H 0 R.

Game 2: 4-6 loss Corey Hart 4-4 3 RBI, Hisashi Iwakuma 5 IP 7 H 2 ER. After only allowing 2 R Iwakuma exits in the 6th and James Paxton get the M's to the 7th. Wilhelmsen enters in the 7th with a 4-2 lead and loads the bases, Furbush enters and the first pitch he throws is crushed by Raul Ibanez for a grand slam. M's are shell-shocked and can't rebound.

          Game 3: 4-7 loss Corey Hart 2-3 2 RBI, Erasmo Ramirez 5 IP 6 H 4 ER.
Farquhar enters into a 4-4 game with a man on second in the 7th and allows back-to-back homers from Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. Raul Ibanez has another 4 RBI night.

Game 4: 6-7 loss Willie Bloomquist 5-6 3 R, Corey Hart 1-5 RBI, Taijuan Walker 4.1 IP 10 H 4 ER. Taijuan Walker struggles and exits early but a 9th inning rally gives him a no decision as the M's get two in the 9th to tie it. After a Michael Saunders home run in the top of the 10th Fernando Rodney allows 3 straight 2 out hits and allows 2 runs in the bottom half.

Game 5: 2-4 loss Corey Hart 1-4 RBI, Kyle Seager 1-4 RBI, Chris Young 7 IP 4 H 4 ER. After allowing back-to-back doubles and then a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning Chris Young rebounds to retire the next 13 and exits after 7. The M's allow 4 runs on only 5 hits but only get 2 runs on 10 hits. After scoring 2 in the 4th Logan Morris grounds into a rally ending double play. the very next inning Willie Bloomquist grounds into another double play this time with the bases loaded. The Mariners can't get close to scoring again and drop one they probably should have won.

Game 6: loss 1-2 Logan Morrison 1-3 HR RBI, Felix Hernandez 8 IP 4 H 2 ER. Sonny Gray and King Felix are masterful and Jed Lowrie's 2-run home run in the 8th lift the A's as King Felix can't get any run support.

Game 7: Win 3-2 Robinson Cano 1-4 RBI, Kyle Seager HR RBI, Hisashi Iwakuma 7.1 IP 5 H 0 R. 7.1 shutout innings from Iwakuma are enough as the M's escape with a 3-2 victory after Yoenis Cespedes made this interesting with a 2-run home run in the 9th with nobody out. Fernando Rodney responded nicely by getting John Jaso to fly out and Josh Reddick and Jed Lowrie to strike out on 97 mph fastballs.

The M's will look to put things together after a rough 2-5 first week. Their 2nd week games are against the same opponents as the first week. This time at home and they're hoping for a better outcome.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins have started off 9-3 with the "new" offense picking up much of the slack.

Granted, six of those games have been against the hapless Phillies, who have started 3-10, so the Marlins still need to prove they can consistently handle contending teams. The team is 3-3 in the early going against the Nats and Braves with a 3-game road set against the Braves starting to close out this first trip through most of the NL East to begin the year.

Giancarlo Stanton's early slump might be already forgotten as he's pulled his average up to .255 and has 6 HR in 47 AB. Seeing Stanton pick up "regular" hits along with the HR is encouraging, though he's stilling batting just .220 vs RHP.

Adam Lind is off to a good start behind Stanton (.342/.375/.632) and with Yelich also handling the 5th spot well, the middle of the order is doing a lot.

Chris Taylor is also doing a lot at the top of the lineup. Already, he has four triples and knocking on the door of a .300 batting average. His 5-for-7 success in stolen bases is also adding a needed speed dimension as hoped.

Donovan Solano is continuing where he left off last September. He's still on the streaky side as a hitter, but his .319 BA and .411 OBP is quite welcome.

Rookie Colin Moran has been having strike zone judgement issues of his own. He's yet to draw a walk and has struck out 15 times in 32 AB. That's been a bit of a concern, though he's making it work...for now.

On the pitching side, Henderson Alvarez has started the season in fine shape. He had a good feel for his sinker in his first couple starts, so the team hopes this is a sign of things to come.

Michael Feliz has struggled in his first few tests against major league competition. The Marlins hope this isn't a repeat of what happened with Angel Sanchez. Feliz's inability to get RHB out has continued in his first few starts, allowing a .280 batting average against right-handed hitters while holding southpaw swingers to just a .118 mark.

            Farm Notes:

-Kyle Jensen (RF, AAA) hasn't had a good beginning to the season. He's hitting .225 and, more concerning, has been a completely lack of power. Literally. He has 0 extra base hits.

-Didi Gregorius (SS, AAA) looks like he wants back to the majors. He's started with a .480 OBP.

-At this rate, the Marlins might want to look for a catcher for the future. Both Skipworth and Realmuto are having serious early problems. Skipworth is hitting lower than a lot of pitchers in the organization, batting just .036 right now.

-Speaking of Angel Sanchez, he's having some success to start the season at New Orleans. He's looked much better in his first two starts, posting a 2.63 ERA. He'll have to prove this is for real, though.

-SP Jacob Turner is trying to revitalize what was high hopes of future success. Turner has been busted all the way down to AA and maybe he's starting to work his way back with a good start to the year for Jacksonville.

-SP Tyler Kolek will be graduating to AAA soon if he keeps up his strong start. He has a 1.38 ERA and 17 Ks in 13 innings at Jacksonville.

-Last season's 2nd overall draft pick, SP Damian Boeve, will make his professional debut for the Suns. He's been touted as the next great young ace by most scouts. He doesn't have the big fastball like Kolek, but no one has doubts about him getting there soon enough.

-SP Quinn Williams is having issues with how the Zephyrs have been using him. He's been quoted as saying "how can they draft me and put me in AAA to start, then only use me out of the bullpen?" Williams hasn't seen much action, and with Eovaldi, Conley, DeSclafani, Nicolino, and Sanchez in the AAA rotation, it's going to be hard to find space for Williams unless one of them moves up to the majors, and even then, who ever is sent down will likely get the empty spot unless Williams truly impresses.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Hello everyone been reading a lot on mlb the show forum. Just got a ps4 from moving over from xbox just because of this game right here since 2k dropped the baseball game I got really bored. I used to play the show on psp but it broke so I haven't played since the show 11. I bought it 2 nights ago just after 2 nights of get the system. I was really excited to get a franchise going since I haven't played one since the crappy 2k game. I have to say the graphics and everything just seem so real! It's awesome. Anyway the first night I had the game I played a quick game just to get the hang of it. I didn't play the full game I had work the next day. Last night I have waited long enough to get a franchise going so I decided to pick my favorite team.. The cards. I didn't make much roster changes I still have allen Craig and joe kelly. Really thought that allen Craig could help my line up until maybe the trade deadline and maybe get someone that can hit cause I think my rotation is solid. Anyway let me take you to this heartbreaker

Gam 1 of the 162 game long season to start of with the reds. Waino gives me a good solid 7 innings giving up 7 hits with no run given up! Defense came up good when needed not allowing them to score when they should've. Matt Adams had the only run on a solo shot to right center field just barely clearing the wall for his first hr of the season. After taking out waino at the beginning of the 8th to bring in my set up man Jason Mott for the 8th. Him setting down on strikes Joey votto and jay Bruce and a ground out.( can't remember who I'm at working writing this up lol) the reds sitting down the top of my lineup 1,2,3 in the top of the 9th. Having Trevor rosenthal as my closer thought he would shut them down. With an awesome first 2 batters him shutting them down brings up Ryan ludwick. This is where things started to go down hill. On a 3-2 count he hits a solo shot to right field. left rosenthal in to finish the inning. Going down in order again in the top of the 10, 11 and also the 12. I brought I. Joe Kelly as he is a long reliever for me right now to hopefully save my bp from having to work to much was the wrong thing to does. As he gives up a walk to lead off the 12th then a single up the middle to hold the runners at 1 & 2 he's K's the pit hitter for the pitch to bring up Brandon Philips. He was 2-4 on the night before this at bat with a single and a double. On a 0-1 curve ball left if hanging for the walk off single to right center field. Loosing pitch joe kelly. I hope he can bounce back lol. Not the way I wanted to open the season but I'm happy with the way waino throw. I hope he can carry that through the whole season.

Game 2 wacha is on the mound not to bad of a game from hit. Only allowing 5 hits 1bb and a two shot home run. My fault left the curve ball hanging on a 02 pitch lol. I had 11 hits but could not get anything going with runners in scoring position. In another tough loss losing 2-0 I'm 0-2 on the year with lance Lynn on the mound tonight when I get home.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Just finished the first month of the 2015 season in my Astros 'chise. What a difference a year makes! Last year, a 6-15 start led to a 12-16 April. This year, the surprising 'Stros are 17-10, a half game up on the 2nd place Rangers. The big key is pitching.
2nd in the AL in team ERA(3.00), 1st in the AL in saves(12), 1st in the AL in fewest hits allowed, and tied for 2nd in the AL in fewest runs allowed. The big concern is walks. Last year, we finished 2nd, this year, we're 8th after the first month. The ace has been Jared Cosart. Last year, he was 9-17 with a 4.69 ERA. This year, starting with a sparkling 4 hit complete game opening day shutout of the A's, he finished the month 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. Alex White, who last year led the team with 13 wins DESPITE missing the first month(I used the real life opening day injuries), has continued his great pitching with 2-1, 2.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP. I'm REALLY excited about Mike Foltynewicz. I've read on here some people have him as a closer. I have him starting and he's 2-0, 1.14 ERA, 0.68 WHIP. After a rough first two starts, free agent acquisition Jason Hammel was great his final three starts. He had the 9 no hit innings against the Marlins, and is now 3-1, 2.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP. The concern is the bullpen. Closer JJ Hoover has been solid, tied for the league lead in saves with 11. It's been up and down getting the ball to him though. I need reliable RH and LH middle relief guys. Offensively, it's been ok. Jose Altuve, who despite being out the final month and a half of 2014 still led the majors with 71 SB's, is leading again with 17. The surprise team leader in Hrs and RBI is Alex Pressley, with 7 and 16, respectively. Chris Carter, who led the majors in HRs in 2014 with 48, has inexplicably become a singles hitter in 2015. He is, however, tied for 4th in doubles with 9. He had more HRs than doubles last year but has reversed that this year. Altuve is tied for 3rd in doubles with 10. A big offensive surprise has been DeLino DeShields. With his incredible speed he's 2nd in steals with 15, and he's hitting well enough to make my decision to have him lead off and bat Altuve 2nd look good so far. Overall, I'm happy with the way things have started. We 're getting ready to start a 3 game series with the 3rd place Mariners, against whom we were 12-7 in 2014. Along with the M's, May features games against Boston, running away with the AL East Tampa Bay, both New York teams, the aforementioned 2nd place Rangers, Detroit, and finishes with a road trip to Oakland and Anaheim. We'll see if spiritsare still up when I give the mid-month report.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Well...our 10 game winning streak has come to a close at the hands of the Twins at Target Field. We still hold a 2 game lead on the Reds as we enter Mother's Day weekend.

After the loss to the Twins where Joel Peralta proceeded to get hammered once again (9+ ERA and his 3rd loss), the Cardinals made some roster moves:

                      * Joel Peralta has been Designated for Assignment. With a 9+ ERA and his 3rd loss of the season, the Cardinals have come to the conclusion that Peralta just doesn't have it anymore. The 38 year old was Designated for Assignment after giving up back to back homeruns to the Twins in the 6th inning, after the Cardinals put together a rally and scored 3 runs to tie the game. With those two homeruns, Peralta has now given up 8 homeruns in just 11 innings of work.

                      * Seth Maness was recalled from Memphis to take his spot in the bullpen. The plan is that Maness will be in St.Louis for the 10 days that Shelby Miller is still on the DL. Once Miller returns, Lance Lynn will move to the pen and then Maness will return to Memphis.

                      * Nick Petree was brought up from Springfield to Memphis to replace Maness and John Gast was pulled from Palm Beach to Springfield. All of these moves will most likely turn around and go the other way, once Miller is activated.

                      * The Cardinals haven't decided what to do with Peralta. Since he was DFA, the Cardinals have 10 days to decide what to do. The market for a 38 year old reliever with no stuff left is minimal at best. Most likely the Cardinals will release Peralta and his 700K contract and sign a youngster in the FA Pool to try and develop. Eric Fonataro who the Cardinals failed to resign in the offseason is out there and most likely the guy the Cards will sign.

St.Louis will finish up this 2 game road trip at Minnesota tomorrow and then head off to Philadelphia for a Mother's Day weekend series with the struggling Phillies.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Your Mets didn't approve of your message and proceeded to take the final two of the series (winning 3 of 4) and sent me into July with a 10 game deficit behind the Reds. I'm currently 39-43 and my team just can't consistently put together good streaks.

Game #3 vs NYM: I hit Matt Harvey (I didn't do the injury) so hard this game but they were right at guys. I only managed 1 run and lost 7-1. Liriano gave up two bases loaded clearing XBH (6 runs total) and I had about 10 guys LOB.

Game #4 vs NYM: G. Cole vs J. Niese aka the battle of aces. Both guys threw dominant games but the difference was a Travis d'Arnaud double which plated one run. Cole went 7 strong striking out 12 and giving up 3 H/3 BB. For the second straight day the Pirates hit the ball very hard but right at guys. I hit at least 5 balls to the warning track in this one. Mets win 1-0 as the bullpen shut things down.

Cole fell to 9-4 on the season and Niese moved to 8-3.

80 games left! Every single one of them matters now. I really want to be in a position to make a run. If I'm like 10 back of the WC near the end of July I might just pack it in and not make any moves. If I'm in it I will try to bolster my bullpen or possibly bring in a better start.

Outside of Cole & Morton nobody is safe in my rotation or bullpen. Their job can be easily given away.

                          Season 1 - Cleveland Indians
                          Playing quick counts

Going very well. 35-32 right now tied with Detroit 4 games back of Kansas City. Brutal section of the schedule continues with a series at Fenway. Played all the AL Division leaders, and a few wildcard teams in the past 4 or so series. Just beat KC 2-0 to hand Vargas his first loss (8-1).

AL: Yankees, Royals, Texas. Wildcard 4 way tie between Cleveland, Detroit, Boston, and Seattle. Oakland and Tampa creeping.

NL: Braves, Cardinals, and Dodgers. Wildcard Cubs and Brewers (a few games behind STL). San Diego creeping.

Sent Carrasco down, called up Marcum, and sent Tomlin to the bullpen to shake things up.

Farm is going well. Lindor and Wendle were called up to Columbus. Wendle doing great at the plate, Lindor may go back to Akron. COlumbus is 33-32 .5 game out of first. Akron is a few games below .500 and trailing the Seawolves by 9 games. Naquin is looking good as is Cody Anderson.

At the 2014 Draft, the Indians chose SP Peter Fielder with the 21st pick. Many pundits had him ranked as high as the 2nd best player available in the draft.

Gameplay-wise, I need to up the injuries a bit (havent really had any in played games) and also limit the user strikeouts while pitching. Masterson and Salazar are #1 and #2.

                            Tallion is tough.

He had me locked in a 0-0 duel through 8 innings. Both my young guy (Michael Feliz) and Tallion were literally out of energy and still going out there matching zeroes until both teams lifted them. I pinch hit for Feliz and Tallion started the 8th and got lifted after a walk.

I didn't use pre existing injuries and he's doing very well in AAA. I still won't use him until next season at some point. Probably July or so...

He looks like a flame thrower so I'm pumped to see what he can do but it's such a long time away!

Taillon was running it up there at 94-97 on me. Very nasty. Love his name, too. Sounds cool.

He's not developed enough in your franchise? I'm in 2015 and he's up for the Pirates in mine.

He's at 82/A with 58/72/61/64 per-9 ratings and 63/85/77 pitch ratings. His POT is 97. Not sure what it was to start back on Opening Day 2014, but he's looking like he's going to be a real monster.
