Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

At what point so you give up on a guy?

I'm 65 games into my Pirates season and my 7/8 hitters are struggling big time.

    C Russell Martin: .175 - 6 HR - 16 RBI
He's rated well but he just can't catch any breaks.

    SS Jordy Mercer - .220 - 0 HR - 12 RBI

No power with average defense. Barely has any XBH and doesn't drive the ball.

If I had to choose 1 to replace it would be Mercer. I'm in early June and don't know what to do. Call up a vet MIF to take his spot? Give Clint Barmes a shot? Martin has been pretty clutch at times so I might just play him less.

    What would you guys do?

I'd give Barmes some AB's against lefties and go from there. Assuming you used an Opening Day set, Stephen Drew may be available as a FA. You could think about signing him, or possibly call up Hansen. Just my 2 cents!

Hansen is not there yet and I don't plan in using him for at least 1.5 years. Mercer and Barmes are both rates well versus LHP.

I might just explore trade options when July rolls around

        I put Drew on NYY

At least you gave it a go for a lil over 2 months with them. Some players just not clicking in the Show. I have a lot in my Braves franchise, but I'm only 30 something games in.. Hopefully Barmes and Martin will click in 7-8 spot in your lineup...

I would look at trade options or even Free Agency for Mercer. I would stick with Martin myself.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

From the sound of it, just pull up a warm body. It can't get much worse than .220 with bleh defense and no power at all, not even gap power.

I just got to the trade deadline in 2014 with the Twins we are 60 something and 20 something. And I only play one game a week. Phil Hughes is 13-2, and Ricky Nolasco is 11-3. I saw the Mets and Cubs were i rebuilding mode so I made some easy trades. Eric Young Jr. for a 59 overall 1st baseman c potential. And the Cubs made the dumbest trade ever. Kris Bryant and Travis Wood for Aaron Hicks! Now our prospects out Buxton,Sano,Bryant,Meyer,May. Watch out!

I'm going to focus on the Cubs and possibly an AL team, but I haven't decided on one yet.

Also, with 30 team control, do I have to draft for every team or can I automate it for some teams?

                        Mets 2014 Franchise Season:

Game 23: (Played the whole way through) Zach Wheeler so far this season has not been able to be stopped since that first game hiccup against the Nationals. Wheeler threw 7.1 innings against the Miami Marlins at Citi and allowed only 2 hits and 0 runs. He also managed to strike out 12 batters during the course of the game, including Giancarlo Stanton twice! Eric Young Jr. and Ike Davis provided the offense with a solo home run and an RBI single respectively. Bobby Parnell came on and slammed the door on the Marlins (striking out Stanton again!) and the Mets down the Marlins 2-0. Wheeler improves to 3-1 on the year.

Game 24: (Played the whole way through) Jon Niese and Nathan Eovaldi clashed swords (swordfish?) for the first 7. Niese went 6.1 but totally unraveled in the 7th. The Mets to be fair also managed to pick up an error on an easy fly ball to Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy made a mistake in calling for a shallow left field hit he couldn't reach (I swore the ball was going to stay up longer). A Jarrod Saltalamacchia 3 run home run and a wild pitch later gave the Marlins 4 runs, which was all they needed to win. David Wright however had a monster game and woke up from his early season slumber. 3-4 with 2 homers and 3 RBI's on the day. Marlins reel in game 2 of the 3 game set by a score of 4-3. Niese dropped his record to 1-3.

Game 25: (Player lock as 3B David Wright) The Mets sent Jeremy Hefner to the mound hoping to spear the Marlins and win yet another set so early in the season and with April coming to a close. Hefner did not disappoint throwing a strong start and only giving up 1 run to Miami. My player lock David Wright went 1-4 with a single. Chris Young though was the real hero driving in the winning run in the Bottom of the 9th and the Mets walked off with a 2-1 victory! Carlos Torres picked up the win and is now 3-0 on the year out of the bullpen.

The Mets finished off their 10 game home stand with a record of 8-2 just keeping pace with the surging Washington Nationals (honestly I was extremely caught up in those Miami games to the point that I kept looking at the ticker in between innings to check up on the virtual Nats in their series against LA. Really immersive and felt like I was in the game's world for the games). Up next to start the month of May will be a 6 game road trip with 2 games in Philly and 4 in Colorado before coming home to start the 4 game Subway Series against those crosstown Yankees!

The NL East currently looks like this after April:

                        Washington Nationals: 17-9 -
                        New York Mets: 16-9 0.5
                        Miami Marlins: 13-12 3.5
                        Philadelphia Phillies: 13-13 4.0
                        Atlanta Braves: 11-14 5.5

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Won the 2014 World Series with the Indians. It was really more of a perfect storm for them rather than anything else. We were a solid team in the Top 10 in batting and pitching. Had the only 20 game winner in Kluber (also won the Cy Young). Cody Allen won the Delivery Man of the Year with 65 saves.

We blasted our way through the regular season with 104 wins (the only team with over 97 wins). We then swept the Royals in the ALDS. Beat the Angels in 6 games for the pennant. Then we swept the D-Backs to win the World Series.

There doesn't seem to be any potential big move coming in free agency as Nelson Cruz looks to be the highest rated player available. I don't know if I want to pay the big cost to keep Masterson or Asdrubal Cabrera as I am hoping to grab a couple superstars in the future. I feel like 2014 was an almost 'lucky' season where it all just came naturally as other teams struggled to perform.

The Tigers (if they stay healthy) should easily take the AL Central in 2015. Then again - they should have in 2014 as well.

You can turn certain options (trades, signings, scouting, drafting) to either cpu controlled or human controlled. At least I believe those are the options, as I don't do 30 team control

Thanks for the input guys. I have switch hitting Michael Martinez in the minors and he's a pure vet. I might bring him up and see what he can do. There's Robert Andino but he's a RHB as well and I'd really like to get a lefty or switch hitter in that 8 spot.

I'll probably roll with Martin as he has provided some decent pop and clutch hits for me.

Do I just send Mercer down to AAA? That's the other question. I wonder if I have to release him or maybe just trade him for a MiLB filler. I gotta take a look at his contract and if I can even send him down without having him go through waivers. I'd assume his trade value is pretty damn low right about now.
