Minnesota Twins 2014 Franchise Season:
Oakland A's @ Minnesota Twins
Game 7 (Played Wholeway through) Phil Hughes took the mound and threw 6 strong innings giving up only 2 runs. A.J. Griffin matched him pitch for pitch and then some going into the 8th inning. Down 2-1 with the closer Jim Johnson on the mound, Josh Willingham slammed the first pitch he saw for a tying solo home run and said "No, No, No, Not Today!". The A's took a 3-2 lead in the 11th but Willingham hit another solo homer! Jason Kubel followed it up a batter later and the Twins walk off with a 4-3 win. The bullpen is once again a gem as Matt Guerrier threw 3 innings in relief and Pressly threw 2.
Game 8 (Played whole way through) The bullpen has been overtaxed and Pelfrey had that in mind and came through for the Twins. He threw 8 innings and went back out for the 9th but an error from SS Florimon put a runner on first. Glenn Perkins came in and got the last three outs for his 2nd save and the Twins win 4-1. Josmil Pinto got his first homer and Willingham hit another home run in this game.
Game 9 (Simmed) Kevin Corrier could not hold off the A's in this matchup as he took the loss 2-1 in a low scoring and low hitting affair.
Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins
Game 10 (Simmed) Samuel Deduno took the win this time as the Twins downed the Royals 6-5. Oswaldo Arcia kept up his burning hot streak going 2-5 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.
Pros:
-Bullpen: The Twins bullpen has been beyond amazing in relief this year. How much longer they can keep it up though is suspect. Perkins has shown why he's an All Star closer with 3 saves in 3 games with 5 K's on the year (which mirrors his real life K ratio somewhat).
-Back end of the rotation: So far the big quality starts have come from Pelfrey (2-0), Correia (1-1) (although that last lost probably should have been a win if he had some run support) and Deduno (1-1). Deduno is a strikeout machine and Pelfrey and Correia have given the bullpen rest in their last starts.
-Oswaldo Arcia: Still rolling with little sign of stopping so far in this early going. Average is just under .400 but he already has 4 homers and 10 RBI in the early going and is on pace to already outdo his 2013 stats by May
Cons:
-Aaron Hicks: Seriously considering promoting Byron Buxton from Triple A as Hicks has failed miserably through the first 10. A .077 average and 3 errors in center has put him in Ron Gardenhire's dog house.
-Danny Santana: average is just above .100 and also is struggling mightily but is better than Pedro Florimon. For now the starting job at short is his....for now.
-Twins Mascot: His dance moves are old and stale. The bear needs a new groove
The Twins head into the second game of the set with the Royals with a 5-5 record and a 3-1 record at home.
Odd Facts and Figures:
The Twins have had 17 home runs so far and are 4th in the league in homer hitting. Those twin cities have been shaking hands a lot in deep center.
