    Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

    Minnesota Twins 2014 Franchise Season:

    Oakland A's @ Minnesota Twins

    Game 7 (Played Wholeway through) Phil Hughes took the mound and threw 6 strong innings giving up only 2 runs. A.J. Griffin matched him pitch for pitch and then some going into the 8th inning. Down 2-1 with the closer Jim Johnson on the mound, Josh Willingham slammed the first pitch he saw for a tying solo home run and said "No, No, No, Not Today!". The A's took a 3-2 lead in the 11th but Willingham hit another solo homer! Jason Kubel followed it up a batter later and the Twins walk off with a 4-3 win. The bullpen is once again a gem as Matt Guerrier threw 3 innings in relief and Pressly threw 2.

    Game 8 (Played whole way through) The bullpen has been overtaxed and Pelfrey had that in mind and came through for the Twins. He threw 8 innings and went back out for the 9th but an error from SS Florimon put a runner on first. Glenn Perkins came in and got the last three outs for his 2nd save and the Twins win 4-1. Josmil Pinto got his first homer and Willingham hit another home run in this game.

    Game 9 (Simmed) Kevin Corrier could not hold off the A's in this matchup as he took the loss 2-1 in a low scoring and low hitting affair.

    Kansas City Royals @ Minnesota Twins

    Game 10 (Simmed) Samuel Deduno took the win this time as the Twins downed the Royals 6-5. Oswaldo Arcia kept up his burning hot streak going 2-5 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.

    Pros:

    -Bullpen: The Twins bullpen has been beyond amazing in relief this year. How much longer they can keep it up though is suspect. Perkins has shown why he's an All Star closer with 3 saves in 3 games with 5 K's on the year (which mirrors his real life K ratio somewhat).

    -Back end of the rotation: So far the big quality starts have come from Pelfrey (2-0), Correia (1-1) (although that last lost probably should have been a win if he had some run support) and Deduno (1-1). Deduno is a strikeout machine and Pelfrey and Correia have given the bullpen rest in their last starts.

    -Oswaldo Arcia: Still rolling with little sign of stopping so far in this early going. Average is just under .400 but he already has 4 homers and 10 RBI in the early going and is on pace to already outdo his 2013 stats by May

    Cons:

    -Aaron Hicks: Seriously considering promoting Byron Buxton from Triple A as Hicks has failed miserably through the first 10. A .077 average and 3 errors in center has put him in Ron Gardenhire's dog house.

    -Danny Santana: average is just above .100 and also is struggling mightily but is better than Pedro Florimon. For now the starting job at short is his....for now.

    -Twins Mascot: His dance moves are old and stale. The bear needs a new groove

    The Twins head into the second game of the set with the Royals with a 5-5 record and a 3-1 record at home.

    Odd Facts and Figures:

    The Twins have had 17 home runs so far and are 4th in the league in homer hitting. Those twin cities have been shaking hands a lot in deep center.

      I've lost the first 2 games of a 3 game series to Oakland. I am now 20-13 and 0.5 game back of Oakland of first place. I am 4 games up on NYY in the wildcard.
      Broke out of a mini slump with Robinson Cano his batting average is now up to .309 with 12 home runs and 23 RBI. He's also scored 26 runs on the season so fast. Have 1 game left against Oakland then I start a 3 game set against KC.

          My rotation has gone down the toilet in August. A once dominate AS break lead of 9 games over the Yanks (I'm the o's) has been completely erased and I'm now 2 behind heading into a 3 game set against NY. The only pitchers pulling their weight now are Gausemen who's leading the cy young and Roy races at 12-2 with 2.83 era, 1.01 whip and 176ks and Britton who has the closinng roll on lock down

            Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

            Well, we have started off May hotter than a firecracker as we just won our 9th straight game. We are winning thanks to our pitching staff as our bats are still struggling. Our starting pitching has been good enough to get us to the strength of our bullpen (Motte, Choate, Martinez) and Rosenthal has settled down and been pitching extremely well (7 strikeouts in last 3 innings).

            Our hitting remains a roller coaster ride as we are getting timely hits, but we are leaving WAY too many guys in scoring position. Taveras has to be one of the top, if not the best, 8th hitter in the majors. Hitting .323 with 5 homers and 21 RBI's thus far. He also has 8 stolen bases on the season. Molina is struggling as is Peralta. Adams has cooled off (.300+ hitter prior in April now at .266 2 weeks into May). Gardner is still not performing as we hoped and even Carpenter is struggling at this point. Holliday and Craig continue to be rocks.

            Hopefully we can continue this streak, but I'm expecting a downfall here soon.

              </td></tr></tbody></table>

              What a game to cap off off the best season in Royals history.

              Things started fast. Aoki tripled to lead off the game. Next batter Lorenzo Cain hits a sac fly to get him home and we take a 1 nothing lead.

              Bottom of the th3rd, still up 1 nothing. Ellis leads off with a single. Ryu got him to 2nd with a sac bunt (i could have let it roll foul but im an idiot). Pederson grounds out and Ellis advances to 3rd. Guerrero hits a two out double to tie the game at 1.

              Top of the 5th, Valencia doubles to lead off. Infante decided he wanted to go home. But he wanted to go home a winner. He lines to center for a single scoring Valencia and taking a 2-1 lead. Top of the 6th

              Top of the 6th, 2 outs. Danny Valencia hits one over the wall in center and we go up 3-1. Santana is pitching well and im feeling very confident.

              Bottom of the 6th, Pederson singles to lead off and then steals 2nd. Guerrero walks on a 3-2 pitch. Puig flied out and the runners stay put. Kemp blasts one into center scoring Pederson and Guerrero. Game is tied 3-3.

              Top of the 8th. Cain leads off with a single. Hosmer backs that up with a single on a hit and run. Cain goes to 3rd. Gordon hits into a double play. But Cain comes in to score giving us a 4-3 lead.

              Bottom of the 9th. Holland comes in to close out the game. Ramirez grounds out. Beltre singles to left. Ellis strikes out. They pinch hit with Nakajima. And then it happens. Nakajima flied out to RF, and the Kansas City Royals are you 2016 World Series Champions.

                Starting a new franchise....AGAIN!!! This time with the Mariners due to the fact that I feel like they're not great but not bad either. Perfectly balanced with Robbie Cano and King Felix. I was the Yanks for one season and won the World Series but wanted something of a challenge because for some reason in the game the Yankees are way too good. I wish it was like that in real life lol. I tried being many different teams including all of the AL West now with the Mariners. Also the Giants and the Dodgers. The Giants don't have enough offense for my liking and the Dodgers are just too good. I only got one of these teams past the month of April and that was the Giants but I only got to the first week of May ha! I like the Mariners and Robbie Cano who was once my favorite player until he turned his back on my yanks. Now maybe we can rekindle our relationship lol.

                Well were off to a good start as Robbie Cano's first AB as a Mariner....a two run no-doubt about it home run to right.

                  Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

                  WOW! What a game for Robinson Cano in his first as a Mariner! Cano leads the M's to an impressive 9-0 shutout victory of the Angels in the season opener. Cano goes 4-5 with 2 HR, 2 2B, and 6 RBI! After a one-out walk in the first inning to Brad Miller the first pitch to Cano was in the dirt then Jared Weaver tried to challenge Cano with a fastball up and in and Cano made him regret that decision as he sent it into the right field stands. In the 3rd Cano picked up another RBI after hitting a ball high off the right-center field wall that plated Endy Chavez. After 4 scoreless innings between the two teams Cano added some more insurance for his team as he hit another 2-run shot to right-center field. The hit parade finally came to an end in the 9th after Cano hit a laser to right that ended up being a ground-rule double that plated Miller. Logan Morrison and Corey Hart both added solo home runs while Felix Hernandez pitched 6 shutout innings and let the bullpen finish off the shutout. No one on the Angels had more than 1 hit as they only got 5 in the ball game and never put a man on third. They also grounded into 3 double plays. The Angels look to rebound tomorrow night as the M's look to keep it going as Hisashi Iwakuma takes the mound for the Mariners and C.J. Wilson for the Angels.

                    Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

                    2014 Pirates franchise update:

                    After being swept by the Reds and losing 2 or 3 to the Cubs I went into Tropicana field and absolutely destroyed the Rays in a 3-game set (3-0 sweep). I outscored them 23-10 I believe and it felt so amazing to just absolutey whoop them.

                    I then started my series against the Mets and split the first two (1-1).

                    Game #1 vs NYM- I was up 4-3 in the 9th inning and Mark Melancon blew the save giving up a 2-run HR to David Murphy. This was blown save #4 or #5 for Melancon. Pair that with his ERA around 6 I decided to demote him to a setup role for now. LHP Tony Watson is taking over the closer role. He's got an ERA in the mid-3's and throws a mid-90's FB from a low angle. We will see how he does against righties.

                    Game #2 vs NYM- Edison Volquez absolutely dealt in this one: 7.1 IP, 11 K, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB. He's been on a roll of late. I believe I won the game 4-2 or 4-3. Tony Watson came in and did a great job getting the save.

                    Some notes:

                    *Pedro Alvarez is on another planet. He's hitting .310 with 20 HR & 65 RBI. He's in legit contention for a NL Triple Crown award. He is #1 in HR/RBI and #3 in avg (leader is .321).

                    *Andrew McCutchen is finally starting to hit. I was so frustrated when he was at .215 and couldn't buy a hit. The offense as a whole has been better the past few weeks and McCutchen has been a big reason why. He's now hitting .261 with 11 HR's and 40+ RBI.

                    *Unsung hero: C Chris Stewart (6-10, 6 RBI, 4 2B's) in two starts against the Rays. He had 4 RBI's for me in a game and both of those hits came with two outs and two strikes. Not only that both hits came off David Price.

                    *Pitching stock is going up. I started off the year struggling pretty bad pitching. I've found out what my guys do well now and it's showing in my team ERA which is now almost right at 4. I haven't been blown up recently and my guys are settling in well. The Starting rotation of Cole-Liriano-Morton-Worley-Vasquez is nice and I put B. Cumpton in the pen as my long reliever.

                    Current record: 39-41 almost halfway there! I'm like 10 GB of the Reds. They are unreal and going to be nearly impossible to catch but it can happen. I'm within 5 or so games of the WC so I need to continue to hit the ball and win some ball games.

                    I absolutely love The Show. I love this franchise. I can't stop playing.

                      The injury bug has struck us again! Shelby Miller on the 15-Day DL with back issues.

                      Season is about 6 weeks old and I have had the following players on the DL:

                      MLB

                      * Kevin Seigrist - RP
                      * Jaime Garcia - SP
                      * Shelby Miller - SP

                      AAA

                      * Seth Maness - RP

                      AA

                      * David Cochran - CP
                      * Thomas Phan - RF

                      Really testing the depth of my pitching staff.

                              I'm probably going to platoon Stewart vs LHP & Castro vs RHP. That way Castro gets a day off here and there and Stewart can get some PT against lefties.

                              Also Jordy Mercer went like 5/8 in the series vs TB. They were all singles but he did have a big two-out RBI. I sat there like "WTF is going on here?!" when they were raking.

                              I desperately want to get in the playoff race haha. It keeps driving me to play more games because they are so much fun and challenging.

                                After yet another terrible start to the year, Marlins fans are wondering if their star slugger is really committed to "being an even better player" as he said in the offseason.

                                While he's hitting a high number of home runs for this early part of the season (4 in 8 games), he's hitting around .200, again, and striking out even more than he did last year.

                                Team officials gave no comment as to budding rumors, but there's some in the Miami area saying that the Marlins "could get a killer return" for a package that included Cishek, one of the team's "extra" young starters, and Stanton.

                                "They should do it. I know they almost got in the race last year, but this was a .500, or worse, team for most of last season. There's young pitching but no young hitters up and coming behind Moran and Marisnick, who are already up at the majors, " the analyst spoke.

                                Of course, what would the Marlins want - or need - that desperately to put that kind of package together? A second baseman would be nice, but who's worthy at that position of this kind of package? The team loves Chris Taylor at SS and the 2nd-year player is showing positive signs in the early going. Catcher could use an upgrade for sure and maybe a big bat in LF to move Yelich to CF, but, otherwise, what is there to get and would it help the team?

                                Stanton wouldn't comment on the situation but did say again that he is committed to correcting the flaws in his swing to help him become more consistent. And what Marlins player didn't have an 8-game slump (please, let's not go there).
