Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I've been falling behind in my play schedule.(Actually started a RttS.....I figure I have to get a little more knowledge on the mode so I can better understand THAT group of gripers!).....so I planned on playing 2 or 3 games in my Met franchise last night.
I sort of got 2+ games in......only it was one 24 inning affair!
In what was a sort of ho-hum game vs. the Phils...Gee vs. Burnett.....the Mets were down 1-0 for most of the "regular" portion of the game.
In the 6th.....we tied it up and in the 8th ...went ahead on a HR by Jeff Keppinger.
In the bottom of the ninth....with 2 outs recently acquired, Tim Beckham hit a game tying HR sending the game to extra innings.
With no bench players on either side....and both bullpens spent going into the 19th inning......I went with tomorrows starter Jon Niese.
In inning 24...Lucas Duda hit a 2 run shot and the Phils had no answer this time.
It allowed me to remain 2.5 games behind the NL East leading Nats and ahead in the W.C. slot.
    Crazy game.

Completed the draft in year 2. So glad that we are able to carry over saves, because I had one helluva draft! Addressed depth issues and have some guys who are going to most likely make immediate impacts!

Currently on the field we are in an offensive slump. Finished a 3 game set with the Nationals, where we managed to only score a total of 4 runs in the series. We are now hosting a 3 game weekend series with the Braves, who lead the NL East.

Friggin' Nats.....luckiest friggin ' team in The Show!

After sweeping the decimated Phillies(through both injuries and trades....Hamels..and Paps...gone....Howard...Utley and Lee injured long term) by crushing them in the last two games of the series....my Mets could manage only three measly hits against Gio and the Nats who won Game 1(mid-August 2014) 6-0.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

May 16th Franchise Fantasy Draft Update. Seattle Mariners and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies actually were losing last time I posted 2-1 with the only hit being Trouts solo homer until the 6th a dribbler went thru. Phil's end up beating them 3-2 off a 2 run homer from Lombardozzi of all people lol.

Checking the stats around the league the Phillies have a lot of competition in the NL. A few players on the Homerun leader board but very few leaders anywhere else but pitching. Makes us feel like our sliders are about right.

The Seattle Mariners played 2 games last night. Finishing the series against the Tampa Bay Rays. There defense was fast, pitching tough , but light with bats. The 2nd game of the series I was facing Oberholtzer. He was 7th in the league with a 2.33 ERA. I knew I was in for a tight one. I worked every single count with every batter. 1st inning runners 1st&2nd Double play ball to end my threat. That happened the next 2 innings lol. I could get men on against him but couldn't plate anything. So the 3rd time thru the line up which didn't take long because I was getting men on base. I said forget it. Ima hit something hard. Starling Marte hits a solo shot Oppo. It was a fastball right on the outside of the plate. Next up Garrin Cechini hitting #2 btw ropes a single right back at the pitcher. Then Giancarlo steps in and proceeds to hit a low line drive that looks like it could have dented Seattles metal stairs in left lol. 3-0. Rest of the game stayed this way they scratched 1 or 2 across.

3rd game of series. It started excellent for the home team Mariners. Andrew Cashner Struck Out the Side !! I was really rolling with him. Left him into the 8th because his pitch count was still low. Jus one of those great games ... Then after a 1/3 of the meter fastball Andrew Cashner is clutching his elbow in pain. It's a sprain. He's gonna be out 3-4 weeks. W/ Harper on the DL. Ace pitcher + Starting LF.

The way I patched this up is like this.I recently traded Maikel Franco for Barbosa A potential Closer and Henry Rodriguez 68 B pot. I put both in AAA. I sent Cashner to the DL. With the extra spot in the rotation I bumped up Carlos Carrasco from Long relief to #5. Carlos Martinez from Middle relief to Long Relief. And recalled Henry Rodriguez from AAA to Middle Relief.

            My pitching staff before :

            Starting Pitching:
            #1 Andrew Cashner
            #2 Jaime Garcia
            #3 Taijuan Walker
            #4 Felix Doubront
            #5 James Tailion

            LR Danny Hultzen
            LR Carlos Carrasco
            MRP Carter Capps
            MRP Carlos Martinez
            Su Rex Brothers
            Su Kelvin Herrera
            CL Francisco Rodriguez

            After :
            Starting Pitching:
            #1 Jaime Garcia
            #2 Taijuan Walker
            #3Felix Doubront
            #4 James Tailion
            #5 Carlos Carrasco

            LR Danny Hultzen
            LR Carlos Martinez
            MRP Carter Capps
            MRP Henry Rodriguez
            Su Rex Brothers
            Su Kelvin Herrera
            CL Francisco Rodriguez

I really want to keep Danny Hultzen able to take a random start or take a game over if one of my starters start to falter early. So we are going to see wht Carasco is made of. He's a 73 ovrall. C pot with 4seam, curve , and a change up. Mark Appel is ready if he can't give us a shot to win.

            Current DL :
            Bryce Harper 2-3 weeks
            Andrew Cashner 3-4 weeks.

            Current lineup vs Righties

            Starling Marte Cf
            Garrin Cechini LF
            Giancarlo Stanton DH
            Jay Bruce Rf
            Jon Singleton 1B
            Manny Machado 3B
            Jedd Gyorko 2B
            Wellington Castillo C
            Andrelton Simmons SS

I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.

Yeah those Nats are lucky. They started off my Braves franchise by winning 15 games in a row. They have a 12.0 gm lead over me through 44 games.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

We have been playing good ball lately, as we went into Atlanta and took all 3 from the NL East leading Braves. Also, this St.Louis team isn't your daddy's or your grand-daddy's St. Louis Cardinal team, as we are 2nd in the majors in Homeruns as we close out Father's Day weekend.

The Cubs continue to play really well, as they are sitting 3 games out. We are playing the Brew Crew at the moment, with the Cubbies being our next series.

                Roster notes:

                * The Brett Gardner experiment may be finally paying off, as Gardner is on a 7 game hitting streak and hitting over .400 in that span. He is also the ML leader in Stolen Bases with 32 in mid-June.

                * Our starting pitching is incredibly deep. With significant injuries to Garcia and Miller, the Cards have learned that Tyler Lyons is more than ready to be on the big league club. Also, Lance Lynn is pitching lights out, although with the rotation healthy for the first time since May, he is pulling Bullpen duties.

                * Speaking of the bullpen, the once weak link of the club, is quickly becoming a strength, with the exception of Rosenthal. He has 7 blown saves on the season thus far, prompting the Organization to take a look at the trade market to see if possibly we need to secure a better, more consistent closer for the season.

                * The young talent is here and ready to take the torch for this club, especially in the outfield. With Matt Holliday and Brett Gardner both spending time on the 15-Day DL, the Cards have found that Stephen Piscotty and Randal Grichuk are extremely capable, of being everyday players, instead of role players. Not to mention, the likes of Mike O'Neill, Rafael Ortega, James Ramsey, and Thomas Pham who are tearing up minor league ball.

                * Matt Carpenter is having a poor first part of the 2015 season as he is currently hitting right around .250, which is extremely poor given his history. He is also struggling at the hot corner, where he has 11 errors this season, by far the worse in baseball.

                * Oscar Tavaras could be the NL Starting Right Fielder in the mid-Summer Classic in 4 weeks, as he is the leading vote getter thus far at the outfield position. Tavaras, who is the number 8 hitter in the lineup, is leading the NL with a .327 average, and has 15 homeruns and 51 RBI's. Tavaras just came off a 3 homerun game in the Miller Park.

My 1st year of my Braves franchise is not quite going as plan. 23-24 14GB of the best team in the Nats. They have 37 wins! But I just had the best game using Heyward ever. We were playing the Rockies. Just like real life I bounced back & forth with having Heyward batting leadoff or in a run producing spot. I decided on having him lead off. We won the game 4-3, but Heyward went 5 for 5, 3B,2HRS,3RBI,4R.... He had the walk off HR to win the game after Kimbrel gave up the tying run with a balk.

                    2014 Pittsburgh Pirtes

I have been on an absolute tear post All-Star break and I'm currently 55-53 with a big lead in my current game after 3 innings (love in-game saves).

My team is just really hitting the ball well and coming up clutch and my pitching is doing enough to keep us in games. Offensively I've just been on another world. No settings changed but for some reason guys are killing the ball.

In my last game I had the game go into extras vs Arizona. Top of the 10th Cutch & Pedro go back-to-back to give me a 3-1 lead. Jason Castro doubles home another run and I go up 4-1 and it's over, right? Tony Watson comes in and gets hammered and gives up two runs in two outs leaving the tying run on 2nd. Mark Melancon comes in for the final out and gets a groundout to 2nd base.

I took about a week off because I was setting stuff up with Madden 15 but I still have the desire to play this franchise. That's how amazing this game is!

Last night's Livestream was a good one as the Yankees barely edged the Red Sox 6-5.
The Boston Red Sox rallied to a bases loaded opportunity with 1 in the top of the 9th and Teixeira came through with an amazing double play to end the game!

Make sure to tune in tonight as we try to complete the sweep of the rival Red Sox in the final game of the series.

We have been playing good ball as we close out the month of June. Have won 10 of our last 14 and now have a 5 game lead on the Cubs and 10 game lead on the Reds. The Pirates and Brewers are just participating this season.

We are about to start July with a 3 game set in Baltimore. Orioles are the defending champions and are not playing as good of ball this year vs last year.

We are getting healthy and our bullpen is doing their job. Hopefully this ride will last a few weeks longer.

                            Late in August...2014....
I lost the first two of a three game set to Atlanta(3rd place behind my Mets(2nd place)....7 games out first(Washington leads the NL East)....4 games behind the Mets) and was poised to get swept.
A few walks....and a bases clearing double by D. Wright tied it up late and we pushed across 2 more to take the last game of the set and salvage an important game as the season grows shorter.
Still 2.5 behind Washington in the East...
Still 3 games up in the W.C.

2 weeks from the All Star Break. Trying to decide if there is anything that we need to do in order to make my team better for the late summer run to get to the fall classic. Problem is that at the moment there isn't much out there as so many teams are still in the race, and I have a hard time trading within my own division and my own league.

My starting pitching is deep going to the minors that I don't need that and my bullpen has been strong outside of Rosenthal who has blown 7 saves I believe this year, but has 23 saves on the year (3rd in NL). So not sure if there is really anything move to be made there, outside of possibly moving Motte to the closer role and moving Rosenthal to different role.

The only thing I'm really missing is a bench player with pop, but not sure there is really anything out there that would warrant me trading prospects for. Again, I have talent in the minors that I may be able to move into that role.

I'll continue to monitor what teams are doing but at this time, with so many teams involve in the race, I think its best to sit tight and go with what I've got.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

We have hit a rough stretch where we have lost 5 in a row. The Cubs swept us in a 4 game series and then we lost the 1st game of the Phillies series and now the Cubbies are just 2 games behind us for first.

We have lost games due to poor hitting, no clutch hitting, bad starting pitching, or bullpen blowups.
